I remember when I first got splatoon 3, it was my first splatoon game, and I thought “why do the octopuses only get 8 hairstyles and the squids get 16?”. And seeing all the cut concepts for octo hair makes me so sad. I love customization who doesn’t. But it’s so hard to express yourself when you’re literally given less options than another half of the player base
One thing I would like them to implement is the ability to choose voices and tattoos as well. I would definitely be a fan of having your own ink colour in the plaza and recon areas. Great video though man, I know how much work it must've been editing this.
The hairstyles are complicated because there is a unspoken rule that Inkling's hair is 6 tentacles and Octoling's is 4 tentacles (Because Squids have 10 limbs and Octopi have 8, the arms and legs count as part of those limbs) But they already had designed a lot of cool options that follow said rule so it is weird they scrapped those away With clothing, you cannot stack them because EVERY piece of clothing gives you upgrades and boosts, so it has to be always 3 pieces of clothing per player. However, different clothing that is stacked as you sugested would be nice
Technically speaking the rule of inklings and octos having a certain number of tentacles can be broken. We see it with Pigtails, Spiky and Afro. But even going by that rule, they really could do more.
not for few of the hairstyles, for example afro that did made into game, it doesn't have any tentackles but it's still in game, also what about the ugly hair from splat 3 that had only 2? (the one that is rl smooth and ends in back with straigh line)
@@FelineDeskFan13 Rule is that they have to have "realistic" method to get the hair styles. The afro is one tentacle overgrown and they remove the suction cups they never explain HOW but that's what it is. The spikey hair is the tentacles chopped into spikes including the tentacle hair just on their head. The pigtails are the tentacles cut into strands and so on. But considering how they COULD create all these hairstyles while still following their rule shows they can do a LOT more
I’ve seen no one else talk about this, but this has always been at the margins of my mind in terms of splatoon 3 customization; Alternate voice options. Anyone remember how super smash bros ultimate let’s you give your mii a diverse set of voice options to choose from? From changing their pitch to different kinds of voices each with a different set of tone. I wish we could have something close to that Splatoon 3. Anything to give me an option to make my octoling sound more tough instead of too soft
For some reason, All Idols have unique eyes like the “star” shape for Inklings and the “tentatek” shape for Octolings. Why can’t the common Inkling or Octoling have access to those eyes?
my in-universe answer is that the idols are born with special pupils (no comment on how those families have them tho) and we're just common inklings/octolings who arent meant to be special (non-derogatory) because we're just the playable characters. plus i think its best if they keep it where nothing is "cooler" than the other, but kept relatively similar to other styles so that no one is pressured if they choose something too boring or too eccentric. design wise? idk. most of the general character customization (hair, eyes, brows, etc) arent really meant to be a core part of the game and are just there to give yourself a character to play as. plus you dont really see their eyes for majority of the game anyways. overdid my answer here but i draw my characters with special features to set it apart from the in-game stuff we have anyways. just thought id try to give a plausible answer
Idols also get to change ink color without actually changing their whole hair color, it's not fair man (not that I actually want that, but in-universe seems a bit weird)
My in universe explanation is there are inklings and octolings who at birth are gifted with musical talent, and thus they look different from regular inkling/octolings, and eventually other inklings/octolings began to follow them for this and view them as “idols” who would be basically the mascot for their city (ex: splatoon 1 inkopolis-squid sisters, splatoon 2 inkopolis-off the hook, splatoon 3 splatsvillle-deep cut) That’d also explain why all the idols make music and tell the news almost the same, because its their roll they were sort of born into
The only thing I know for real is that the octoling idols have those pupils because octopus in real life have pupils shaped like that. Look it up it's pretty cool
i don't know what the lore reasons could be, but i think for character design reasons it's just a cool and simple way for people to be able to differentiate the idol characters from the normal player characters. it automatically gives them a sense of importance just from how their eyes look and helps them to stand out.

Facial Features: Freckles, Scars, Moles, Blush legwear Options, Colorful Skirts, Jeans, Ripped Jeans, Baige Shorts, Tech Ware pants (these pants can have a good combination with the hacker jacket fr) And more creative clothing as well. Let's not forget to mention Octolings (For example marina) have a unique Eye pupil that resembles an 8 side ways.

I've been saying that about Octolings since S3 came out, I've tried switching over to Inkling several times just for more options but every time, I can only ever think "That is not me..."
i still dont understand why our pants are on the same caliber of customization as eyebrows, instead of being bought like regular gear. it doesn't make sense, the only thing stopping them from doing it in an update or in a future game is that they would have to rework the ability system to account for more abilities you can have, but that begs the question why did they make it like that in splatoon 1?
Oh No Sonic Drowned!!!! Yea, I wouldn't mind buying shorts. And that's the thing. Be able to buy pants and shorts but have no abilities attached to it would be nice.
I'll defend them on this element, since I feel like bottoms (especially ones that are meant to be worn for athletic activities) really aren't that diverse compared to all the tops with fancy cuts and styles that are popular now.
I agree with what the octoling segment was about but Nintendo ain’t gonna do it because it’s a japanese company I feel like there holding off on Splatoon 3 and getting ready for something in the future but even if I’m wrong this was a great video!

I honestly think nintendo doesn’t care much of what the fan base says that much. while they do add in some things that improve some of splatoon 3, they don’t care what people want to see in the game, and just care for the positive feedback
The only thing they do take from the fanbase of balance or map changes Because they’ve said they’re focusing on meta and gameplay style for like tournaments and stuff
Im pretty sure that's because customization isn't exactly a priority. The maps and meta are more important right now for Splatoon 3, it's all very delicate.

There was only ONE thing that I wanted out of Splatoon 3. More. Octoling. Hairstyles!! Then, we only get four new ones. And so do the Inklings. The Inklings still have _twice_ as much hairstyles as Octolings. And now I learn a couple of those were meant for Octolings… Could we just get a hairstyle update? A massive addition of styles? That would be beautiful 😥 I liked your pointing out on the clothing, too. I didn’t realize Splatoon 2 seemed to have more unique options. I don’t mind the reskins too much because I think having alternate color options is cool, but I would also enjoy more clothing variety. Thank you for the video! I think one of the problems of having limited hair is having to impliment hair physics for when a special is charged, making models for hair with some hats like gloggles and ofc mesh hats. Its all from modeling since it takes a bunch of time to make some

I have the Splatoon 3 Ikasu Artbook and when I tell you there are so SO many scrapped ideas for hairstyles and clothes that should’ve been in the game. This was a great video, very well done
i seriously want more octoling hairstyles ESPECIALLY with side order coming out in the next few months. i also really would like more eye colors, facial markings, different eye shapes, colored finger tips, etc. even something smaller, like better pants choices or ear shapes. cool video btw, i really like hearing other people’s perspectives on things i find relevant ‼️
In each splatoon game they upgraded the customisation for the characters: Splatoon 1 - only eye and skin colours Splatoon 2 - new hairstyles, few pants and an octoling choice Splatoon 3 - new hairstyles, eye brows and male and female hairstyles can be equal So in later splatoon games, i think they will add new content to the customisation and maybe bringing scraped ones as well ( like scars and freckles could return ) but who knows what'll happen in future of splatoon customize character
Yeah, it may take time to get a full customise character in future splatoon since each game gives a different content for customisation, but we'll get there
I have a headcannon that one of the rewards from side order is the option of painted nails for both inklings and octolings. Marina, Shiver, Frye, and Acht are all newer designs that have these "painted fingers". Not sure how the colors would work but maybe the nail color would be the opposite ink color the player has at that moment. Also GREAT points I agree that the octolings need more hairstyles and personally I love the idea of wearing more skirt designs or dresses. The backwards hat option got me hyped as well bc I always wanted to wear the hats both ways (as well as the longer/shorter shirt options). The only thing that maybe makes sense why they arent adding this stuff is the movement of hair/clothing in turf war. Maybe some aspects of customization is harder to animate than others idk I'm not a 3d modeler
yeah, the reason we dont have longer hair for octos (like marina) is because it is actual hell to animate. the tentacles want to flop everywhere and its VERY hard to make them move naturally. It's why when you see other animators animate marina, the hair moves in a kind of uncanny way.
I so badly hope we get new hairstyles at least for octolings, while I have no intentions of changing off the one I'm using now it would be great to get more options. Maybe they could also add the scar and freckles that got datamined back in 1.0 and removed right after, as well as more pants options. It would be definitely nice to get some skirts and dresses since the only ones we really have are the pants option and the witch robe. Honestly we just need another non catalog gear update in general since I think chill 2022 was the only one we got in this game
I feel like the catalog is dragging the game down. Rather than having fun and being original. They give us the Catalog. Put the gear their and call it a day.
God, I hope Nintendo decides to start adding uniqueness and original customization for inklings and Octolings (alongside with the new species) in the future for Splatoon 4. I hope Splatoon 4 gets involved with scars/freckles, unique hairstyles for both inklings and Octolings (alongside with the new species), unique clothing instead of reskin clothing, clothing based off from the Splatoon manga and Splatoon doll ones, glowey fingertips/toes, alternative hairstyles, and bring back the collaborations (such as amiibo, anime/manga, and indie/AA game franchise collaborations) for Splatoon 4 as outfits in the future.
I lowkey feel as if the adjust gear had missed potential considering the fact that i sort of expected being able to move the hats wherever you want when it came to that feature
You know what Splatoon needs? A community workshop where 3D artists can submit their own gear, hair, weapons, etc. for the Splatoon team to consider putting in the game. Like what Team Fortress 2 does, allowing for semi-regular content updates despite TF2's dev team consisting of only a janitor and a potted plant.
I think having different eye masks for both octolings and inklings is such a missed opportunity since the idols, and band members have different eyemasks
Its cuz they are technically different species from the playable characters but like... just have their species be playable? lol Like technically the squid sisters are cuttlefish and pearl is a pygmy squid Marina is a species of large octopus idr which (this is why shes so big compared to others) deep cut frye is a vampire squid (this is a guess but her sharp and vampiric features make people think she is.) So thing is if diff species of squid and octopus look diff as octolings and inklings... just let us choose? and hell give us the option to have idol like hairstyles. Imitations that are not quite the same (since absolutely young turflings will want to imitate their idols)
Still wish that abilities were separate from clothing so that people can actually customize the characters without hours of grinding for the gear to be good

Customization is one of my biggest issues with this game. One of the main draws to a multiplayer game is player customizations. And splatoon I feel lacks alot of originality. Ninjala, a game also on switch, has alot of themes to work with. Want to look like a cyber knight, you can do that, want to be an oni? You can do that. Splatoon 3 just lacks so much, being a sequel, you'd think we'd atleast get more hair options.
I think ninjala also did well with the fact that, even though you initially have very little options for faces, hair and etc, you can buy more clothing and stuff in the market, and you can even buy HAIR and EMOTES through it. In splatoon, you have all the hair choices, and then you buy the clothes when they rotate into the shops or you win it in grizzco/get it thru amiibo, and there’s no option to buy emotes you want you have to keep grinding for them or basically gamble at the gacha. Buying styles would be a good idea for the game mechanics I think
You know what's a really good idea for customization that the devs should have given us? Customizable weapons. Imagine having your splattershot decked out with stickers and charms. In one pic in the Splat 1 Artbook, it showed a 52. Gal with these charms hanging from the handle. Just imagine instead of the lazy as hell recolour of Custom Dualie Squelchers, we actually got to customize the colour and making it unique to our character, now that would bring a whole new level of customization to the field.
my girlfriend and i were discussing this exact topic and she said they should let us choose parts of a hairstyle (bangs, side hair, back, etc) or individually change tentacles to create hairstyles. i agree a million percent.
I also wish that we could stylize the squid/octo markings around our characters eyes as well. It saddens me how only the idol cephalapods get to have more individual looks but we're stuck looking like everyone else. And to think that we were THIS CLOSE to having cute freckles too!😭come on Nintendo why aren't we allowed to have adorable ocs in game!? Some blush options would be cute as well 😭😭😭😭

My original comment i was gonna post got deleted because of youtube being youtube but what i was saying is seeing these octoling hairstyles and inkling hairstyles made me feel insulted they werent in the game hell some of my ocs would actually have a hairstyle close to it if they did 😭 but they gotta give us those halfassed cuts and customization while somehow splat 2 still has better shit- when i think of making a character its usually using the splat 2 clothes or 1 splat 3 options are either really extra that they dont go with ANYTHING(grizzco 3 clothes) or really boring to the point they redesign it 1000 times like come on i could post 20 options of shirts that are just rebrand splat 2 clothing if you gonna be lazy at least give me previous gear not this half assed shit so what im saying is…. You’re 100% right…. for splat 3 being the game about THREE they sure do give you THREE TIMES less clothing and THREE TIMES the connection issues splat 3 really needs to wake tf up and actually try like damn 😭
issue with the hairstyles is that they gotta fit into hats and whatnot while they could make variations for different hats like they did with the afro it might be a bit harder considering the afro is a simple ball shape then again it probably is pretty easy for them to hide/shrink certain bones, but they'd still have to make a preset for each hat (even if reusing some)
it was pretty nice when they added the ability to adjust clothes, but something i IMMEDIATELY noticed is that it didnt do anything for shoes, which i think is a missed opportunity. most shoes in the game dont come with socks, and i personally dont like how that looks, so why not add an option to wear socks with shoes that dont already have them? i also just think they can stand to expand the amount of hats and shirts that can be adjusted, like allowing players to wear headphones around their neck or glasses on their forehead, maybe even allowing long sleeved shirts to roll up the sleeves.
Yess finally someone said. There needs to be more octoling hairstyles and some of the inkling hair are kinda ugly like the shaved haircut that has a triangle cut into the front. So i wish there'd be better hairstyles in either splatoon 4 or in 3 as an update
its insane that the 4 jackets u showed aren't actually reskins, they're _4 separate models that look basically identical._ instead of spending time modeling something NEW or fresh. they just made the same jacket 3 more times
That’s the crazy thing I noticed after someone pointed it out. Yea they slightly modified it. So they’re not reskins just look to dang similar. It’s like how people recolor already existing characters. I take Sonic and give him black eyes with glowing red dots with blood. It’s no longer Sonic but Sonic.EXE. OG Sonic as a base and modified it very slightly.
i would play the game more if they were more customizations. My friend wanted more pants options and after getting bored of splatoon 2 and viewing splatoon 3, he didn't even bother installing it and he plays more games than i do on the switch. I played Splatoon 3 and appreciate what they got right, I like how everything has become gender neutral now meaning I can give my female inkling the rolled up sleeved cardigan that was exclusive to the male characters in Splatoon 2. But I totally agree with you in regards to the reskins, it's ridiculous. It's like going to subway and having the exact same sub with the exact same toppings only on different bread. I think to myself, why are so many of these clothes reskins, the Amiibo outfits are more unique but there's only so much you can do with amiibos. But definitely more pants, dresses, skirts (I miss the squid girl dress in Splatoon 1). Perhaps have socks, bracelets, gloves, etc as a separate customization option, we've only had 3 (tops, hats & shoes) + pants which has never had it's own shop. They need to take some notes from Animal Crossing New Horizons that actually does a really good job at character customization, in fact it is the 3rd best after Zepeto and Sims as I am able to create my main original character very close to her original design (Reference Is In My Avatar). I cannot say the same for Splatoon as the option just isn't there to create her at all. Splatoon 1 was a fresh coat of paint (no pun intended) at the time and I spent a lot of time playing it, Splatoon 2 was a small upgrade and I spent a fair amount of time playing it. And Splatoon 3 didn't bring much to the table and in my eyes, it's actually the weakest one in regards to replay-ability. Character customization has been lacking since Splatoon 2. I like the tri-color matches in Splatoon 3 but sadly they only happen during Splat-fests and their not gonna last for long. Once Splatoon 3 stops updating, the team will be more focused on the new Animal Crossing game and we'll have to wait for Splatoon 4. Splatoon 3 I barely play, it's like a now and again thing. In fact, I haven't been addicted to a Nintendo Switch game for more than 100 hours of gameplay since Miitopia in 2021 but I'm hoping Nintendo will turn things around with their new console whenever that'll happen (getting fed up of stupid rumors and Nintendo Directs not mentioning it now). Mid to late 2010s is when Nintendo peaked after the disastrous Wii U and before the Switch was coming to an end.
YES YESSS EXACTLY THIS!!! I've been falling of of Splatoon 3 myself. I only play now with friends. They better step their game up when it comes to Splatoon 4. I feel like they've gotten a bit lazier!
It’s literally frustrating every concept hairstyle not added in. Actually jaw dropped when I saw a scrapped wolfish cut since every game has been giving us that hairstyle. Fashion is a core part of the series and it feels like 3’s concept of chaos interfered with that at points. I’m not UNHAPPY with the world concept being ragged but you definitely feel the difference between 1 and 2’s more pop cultural look. The scrap yard look technically makes sense for the school iteration, the first one being a common school outfit and the second leaning a little more gyaru (I have not gotten a chance to play 2 properly but it looks to lean into heisei imagery), and the third’s look is a Bancho or school delinquent look which makes sense for two major themes of 3, rough and traditional. Excepts the gear looks half baked and not as visually stunning as it could if it used a traditional cap instead of the fish pick, a more dramatic flair to the jacket and better shoes. I literally saw someone do just that for splatoon when searching up bancho. And even as a non binary person who’s happy they phased out gendering, I’m also low key mad we only got one version of the outfit rather than giving us a Yanki version too. As a player who only really got to join in when 3 came out, I really want to believe that maybe the full dlc release with also bring in a big update like it did for ACNH far into its release. At least more hair options since they’re basically right there and ready. But admittedly I’m looking towards the next iteration at this point the way there’s just some stuff they won’t fix now. Introducing a brand that leans into looks reminiscent of Lolita, jiraikei, yumekawaii and the sort (maybe even decora and fairykei). It doesn’t need to be on the nose but there’s a whole well known style they’re sleeping on, even those gyaru elements in a sense which could even just be reskinning. Let me choose my hair color outside of battles. I know hair coloring isn’t as common in Japan but I hate having to cycle in and out of recon to get my hair color back for photos. Photo mode itself is kind of frustrating to use since you can’t even pose yourself without placing down an amiibo character. It’s been by far the clunkiest of them to use and again, for a game about fashion it’s ridiculously frustrating to work around. If anything I feel like the most exciting customization has been the lockers which I’d like to see expanded in some way. I feel like I’ve heard a lot of people point to an apartment which only worries from the point of view that it doesn’t tie into core mechanics but something like club/team rooms where maybe you could even formally be marked with friends as a team could be nice. When I see locked items like the electric pot, i don’t want to just shove it in a locker to be unused. Again that one worries me since it takes you the most out of the game experience but I feel teased by the potential of a space to decorate.

I wish there were more ways to feel unique in this game, when I’m looking around the lobby it feels like everyone looks the same. Also wish we had octoling rival hairstyles from s1 and 2.

i feel like a lot of enjoyment i got from splatoon 2 was being able to customize my character with cute and good outfits and clothes, the amount of simplicity they're going for in 3 and the boundry between femininity and masculinity might be good for some, but there should still be a choice imo
they need to bring back the clothes from splatoon 2, i really want the fish skull and the kensa clothes. also they could've added more options for pants, maybe more skirts or make pants purchasable, because there's so little options for pants. i hope there's gonna be more octo hairstyles once side order is out tho

i've always wanted the ability to change the color gradient on the tips of the tentacles since like the first game lol. idk how they would do that if it's all one texture, but if it's not it could be cool. freckles being removed last minute is so weird... i would have loved to make my inkling look more like me
You have no idea how many potential customization options you covered lined up with almost exactly what I had in mind for a hypothetical dream Splatoon game art project that I've had sitting on the backburner since Splatoon 3 was announced in early 2021! New hairstyles for both species and an equal number of styles for both, toggleable variants of said hairstyles, facial features like freckles, beauty marks, eye pupil shapes, nose shapes! New legwear! Then, with gear, once you buy or gain certain pieces of gear, you get every version of it that you can toggle at will in the gear menu! Socks as a new gear type entirely, not just as an accessary, that function differently from the other gear types! The ability to stack certain headgear or clothing, although, you'd need to choose which one's secondary abilities take effect as a preventative measure from making players overpowered. The ability to adjust clothing freely, although Splatoon 3 has touched up upon this recently with the twisted hats and oversized shirts; I want to see some crop tops, ngl. Specially designed gloves that you could earn by reaching achievements, such as making it to A-rank, to wear on your hands to show off your feats! The crossover gear, which in my opinion should be gained by tapping amiibo, would be a great addition! Eye shapes are really the only thing I think are fine the way they are now, especially for the playable octolings since their eye masks easily distinguish them from the evil ones from the campaigns. The only customization options I thought of at one point that wasn't covered by this video are body types and body heights. You should be able to adjust the size and shape of your character. As cool as inklings and octolings look now, there's no way all of them just happened to grow up to be slim and five-foot-even. To allow the player to truly individualize their character[s], I honestly believe a small list of body adjustment options should be available. This is especially true for the characters that players basically make into their personas, as they can really make their character look more like themselves irl or represent their ideal selves! Like I said, after Splatoon 3 was announced, the project was put on the backburner, since it was supposed to be a 'Splatoon 3' "What if?" deal. However, now that we're closer to the end of the official Splatoon 3's expected lifecycle and Side Order's coming out soon [so excited], all I really need to know is how that DLC's story unfolds in order for me to put the project back into motion under a new name- and with a *bunch* of new ideas I came up with in the meantime!
i was already annoyed by the lack of actually good octo hairstyles but this video made me realize we really don't have as much freedom in customization as we think. they at least seem to be adding more with the new updates extra cosmetic options for some gear but there's still so much more we could have
I love playing as an octoling but I decided to shake it up and I used the inkling bed head style the one with dried tips and I thought why don’t we have a dried tip style for octolings :(
100% agree on all of the topics I feel like I've been saying the same thing. More hair styles and a pants store would be very unique! I feel like bracelets and jewelry would be cute too but maybe that part is overboard 😅 More afro hairstyles like puffs and natural ponytail would be super cute for octo girlies (afro needs a different varient with smaller side burns or baby hairs for girls and maybe longer in the back too), longer hair styles would be very nice too. Those clothes that didnt get imported from Splatoon 2 need to come back asap they were honestly the most stylish and popular i was so disappointed when i couldn't find them.
big on the feminine clothing i think a fluffy tutu could be super cool and like ballet slippers cause that's still sporty but feminine. the clothes seriously feel like they're stuck in 2016-2017
I completely agree with you on so many different levels, I could not stress enough by the unlimited possibilities we could've had, maybe more legwear options instead of the same things from the previous games: crop tops, skirts, or just almost anything in general, other headgears instead of just caps and glasses. And the different hairstyles too, possibly having more hair options such as braids, long hairstyles or short hairstyles such as bobs even custom hairstyles. Also I'm surprised that they didn't bring back the Squid Girl outfits from Splatoon 1. Also we need the Agent 8 gear. It just feels so limited to the amount of hairstyles considering the fact that customization is one of the main aspects of the game. There was this fan-concept of Splatoon 4(I forgot the artist's name but they're pretty talented), and the level of different clothing + hairstyle options were endless along with the different locations away from the city.
I'm sure it was Pufuu. They make really great edits. They Actually fool a lot of people with their edits many times. In fact their rendition of the Splatoon 3 Box Art isn't to far fetched from the official quality.
I want the original octoling look (big tentacles, voices, eyes) since Splatoon 1. Is it so damn hard to add them Nintendo, they're literally already ingame.
It would be cool if they had a fashion show feature that lets you vote for other players' outfits, and it makes your catalog go up instead of playing turf war ranked anarchy, etc
I think the main reason why octolings don't have more hair styles is because when splatoon 1 came out inklings were more profitable since there were the first species in the game you could play in splatoon 1
A random wish That I have wanted for a while, is to select a colour that is part of your hair, as a gradient. Example, I’m a fan of Any blue, so why not have it Fade from the Dark Blue in battle at the top of my hair, to a lighter, icy blue on the edges / tips. It’s a small thing, but being able to do this would make me more than happy. I wish we could also pick voices. I may be a man, but my voice is fairly high, and there is a lot of potential there, especially if people Headcannon their characters as being the same Inklings or Octolings from Their previous Game. I dunno there’s so much potential that hasn’t been discovered yet.
Tbh- the Octolings limited hairstyles is the ONLY reason I play inkling- might sound stupid but there’s so little to work with when making yourself an Octoling- and also, why can’t we have that rival octoling hair? Why can’t we even have Marina’s hairstyle? Why can’t we have ALL of the idols hairstyle? I would love to have the bow into ponytail like Callie! Or the cute bun like Marie- and the devs really don’t have any excuses! Now, I do know that Side order might be introducing a new kind of faded fingertips and tentacles, as showed in the trailers, but I have no idea if that’ll only be in the DLC or maybe we can unlock it in the main game? and PLEASE NINTENDO GIVE US BACK THE OCTOLING GEAR! 😭 I was so sad in Splatoon 2 when I wasn’t able to get it because I couldn’t get the Octo Expansion, and I think that the Splatoon 3 Octoling gear looks so cool! And why shouldn’t we? The Octoling gear has been so iconic in all 3 games! And we got it for FREE in the first game! The Octoling armor was one of if not my favorite shirts in the game, I’m still a little disappointed we haven’t gotten it (maybe in the DLC? Nintendo pleaseeeee 😭) My gosh they got rid of freckles and scars?! That would’ve been so amazing!!! And gosh why CAN’T we choose pupil shapes? The clothing options… well in general I don’t get why there aren’t more options- I have all the deep cut gear and you are SO right about letting the colors change to match your inklings- and Big Man’s gear is honestly kinda disappointing- Shiver and Frye’s gear does look really cool tho, and it’s really nice getting to wear their masks
The reason that rival octolings are different from playable octolings it’s because rival octolings are not made the same way that playable octolings are. There actually just fully grown octarians and this is even said in the art books Basically, how they are made is where the host, another octoling cuts off one of their tentacles, and then it basically comes alive, and as they age they slowly change and the final stage is turning into a rival octoling and the reason why rival octolings have purple masks around their eyes is because it’s the same thing with Octarians and the reason why they’re so round is because octarians eyes have round masks and their hair more resembles the tentacles of an octarian so that’s the reason they’re not the same. playable octolings are born like inklings which are not born by a host, cutting off a tentacle So this should clear up the problem with the rival octolings not being playable 👍
That's another thing too. I know the Lore for Octolings in Spatsville and in Inkopolis are different. Inklings and Octolings never beefed with each other in Splatsville. The Great Turf War never affected them if I recall. So now it makes me wonder why we truly don't have more eye styles.
i think the main reason for a lot of these features not making it in isn't the developers fault. They have budget and time restriction set by the higher-ups that probably need to be increased. It's the same with all games. It's unfortunate because these features would be so cool.
-this game was the first that actually had an Amiibo outfit I liked, with the inkling girl jacket being one of my main fits -they prob wanted the shiver and Frye outfits to stay their colors to be iconic -the big man jacket, (and by extension the others), look similar, but have differences to be different jackets -the game feels fine in terms of style, people’s tastes might just be more picky as the series has progressed
Another thing about Nintendo ignoring Octolings- back when the feature was first introduced to take pictures on the float after winning a 100x battle, they only had inkling models. I have screenshots of my Octoling having the Octoling hair but the inkling 3D model 💀 You’d think they’d make both since both inklings and Octolings are playable now

It would've been cool to get keychains or something similar for your weapons, which dangle from a set spot on each gun. Or the ability to freely place stickers on your weapons too
Besides the maps I think the biggest problem with Splatoon 3 is the update system. Conceptually the seasons are really cool makes every new content update feel like an event but it has not been executed well. Every season has felt lackluster with its content we never get enough to warrant a 3 month wait between them. We get little new clothes, very few weapons, and then they throw in something that’s a little bit interesting to grab our attention like a new map or special and that’s it. I really wish they jam packed these seasons with more stuff like all of the customization possibilities you mentioned in the video. Great job with the video!
Well with the newest update we have the ability to adjust more shirt sizes, remove socks from shoes that have them, and place any glasses on our heads. It's a step in the right direction I guess...
Yeaa!! I had some friends point that out. Like glasses can now be on your face or forehead. And the Pilot Goggles from Splatoon 1 are finally wearable on your character.
(Halfway through the video) What if there was this wandering merchant that sold rare gear (like the exclusive korokoro gear and collaboration gear from splatoon 1). I know it sound dumb but it could work. I was thinking it could have some sort of challenge and reward system.
I actually had an idea like that. I want the Shell-Out Machine to be worth something other than food tickets that are useless by Level 30. They could do it. Someone coming in sell time frames to sell you rare clothing.

I remember when I first got splatoon 3, it was my first splatoon game, and I thought “why do the octopuses only get 8 hairstyles and the squids get 16?”. And seeing all the cut concepts for octo hair makes me so sad. I love customization who doesn’t. But it’s so hard to express yourself when you’re literally given less options than another half of the player base

The hairstyles are complicated because there is a unspoken rule that Inkling's hair is 6 tentacles and Octoling's is 4 tentacles (Because Squids have 10 limbs and Octopi have 8, the arms and legs count as part of those limbs)
But they already had designed a lot of cool options that follow said rule so it is weird they scrapped those away
With clothing, you cannot stack them because EVERY piece of clothing gives you upgrades and boosts, so it has to be always 3 pieces of clothing per player. However, different clothing that is stacked as you sugested would be nice
Technically speaking the rule of inklings and octos having a certain number of tentacles can be broken. We see it with Pigtails, Spiky and Afro. But even going by that rule, they really could do more.
not for few of the hairstyles, for example afro that did made into game, it doesn't have any tentackles but it's still in game, also what about the ugly hair from splat 3 that had only 2? (the one that is rl smooth and ends in back with straigh line)

The afro is one tentacle overgrown and they remove the suction cups they never explain HOW but that's what it is. The spikey hair is the tentacles chopped into spikes including the tentacle hair just on their head. The pigtails are the tentacles cut into strands and so on. But considering how they COULD create all these hairstyles while still following their rule shows they can do a LOT more
I’ve seen no one else talk about this, but this has always been at the margins of my mind in terms of splatoon 3 customization; Alternate voice options. Anyone remember how super smash bros ultimate let’s you give your mii a diverse set of voice options to choose from? From changing their pitch to different kinds of voices each with a different set of tone. I wish we could have something close to that Splatoon 3. Anything to give me an option to make my octoling sound more tough instead of too soft

For some reason, All Idols have unique eyes like the “star” shape for Inklings and the “tentatek” shape for Octolings. Why can’t the common Inkling or Octoling have access to those eyes?
my in-universe answer is that the idols are born with special pupils (no comment on how those families have them tho) and we're just common inklings/octolings who arent meant to be special (non-derogatory) because we're just the playable characters. plus i think its best if they keep it where nothing is "cooler" than the other, but kept relatively similar to other styles so that no one is pressured if they choose something too boring or too eccentric. design wise? idk. most of the general character customization (hair, eyes, brows, etc) arent really meant to be a core part of the game and are just there to give yourself a character to play as. plus you dont really see their eyes for majority of the game anyways. overdid my answer here but i draw my characters with special features to set it apart from the in-game stuff we have anyways. just thought id try to give a plausible answer
Idols also get to change ink color without actually changing their whole hair color, it's not fair man (not that I actually want that, but in-universe seems a bit weird)
My in universe explanation is there are inklings and octolings who at birth are gifted with musical talent, and thus they look different from regular inkling/octolings, and eventually other inklings/octolings began to follow them for this and view them as “idols” who would be basically the mascot for their city (ex: splatoon 1 inkopolis-squid sisters, splatoon 2 inkopolis-off the hook, splatoon 3 splatsvillle-deep cut)
That’d also explain why all the idols make music and tell the news almost the same, because its their roll they were sort of born into
The only thing I know for real is that the octoling idols have those pupils because octopus in real life have pupils shaped like that. Look it up it's pretty cool
i don't know what the lore reasons could be, but i think for character design reasons it's just a cool and simple way for people to be able to differentiate the idol characters from the normal player characters. it automatically gives them a sense of importance just from how their eyes look and helps them to stand out.

i still dont understand why our pants are on the same caliber of customization as eyebrows, instead of being bought like regular gear. it doesn't make sense, the only thing stopping them from doing it in an update or in a future game is that they would have to rework the ability system to account for more abilities you can have, but that begs the question why did they make it like that in splatoon 1?

I'll defend them on this element, since I feel like bottoms (especially ones that are meant to be worn for athletic activities) really aren't that diverse compared to all the tops with fancy cuts and styles that are popular now.
I agree with what the octoling segment was about but Nintendo ain’t gonna do it because it’s a japanese company I feel like there holding off on Splatoon 3 and getting ready for something in the future but even if I’m wrong this was a great video!

I think one of the problems of having limited hair is having to impliment hair physics for when a special is charged, making models for hair with some hats like gloggles and ofc mesh hats. Its all from modeling since it takes a bunch of time to make some

I have the Splatoon 3 Ikasu Artbook and when I tell you there are so SO many scrapped ideas for hairstyles and clothes that should’ve been in the game. This was a great video, very well done
i seriously want more octoling hairstyles ESPECIALLY with side order coming out in the next few months. i also really would like more eye colors, facial markings, different eye shapes, colored finger tips, etc. even something smaller, like better pants choices or ear shapes. cool video btw, i really like hearing other people’s perspectives on things i find relevant ‼️
In each splatoon game they upgraded the customisation for the characters:
Splatoon 1 - only eye and skin colours
Splatoon 2 - new hairstyles, few pants and an octoling choice
Splatoon 3 - new hairstyles, eye brows and male and female hairstyles can be equal
So in later splatoon games, i think they will add new content to the customisation and maybe bringing scraped ones as well ( like scars and freckles could return ) but who knows what'll happen in future of splatoon customize character

Yeah, it may take time to get a full customise character in future splatoon since each game gives a different content for customisation, but we'll get there
I have a headcannon that one of the rewards from side order is the option of painted nails for both inklings and octolings. Marina, Shiver, Frye, and Acht are all newer designs that have these "painted fingers". Not sure how the colors would work but maybe the nail color would be the opposite ink color the player has at that moment. Also GREAT points I agree that the octolings need more hairstyles and personally I love the idea of wearing more skirt designs or dresses. The backwards hat option got me hyped as well bc I always wanted to wear the hats both ways (as well as the longer/shorter shirt options). The only thing that maybe makes sense why they arent adding this stuff is the movement of hair/clothing in turf war. Maybe some aspects of customization is harder to animate than others idk I'm not a 3d modeler
Yea, I've heard from a Voice Acting Panel. That it's easier to animate shorter hair compared to longer hair.
yeah, the reason we dont have longer hair for octos (like marina) is because it is actual hell to animate. the tentacles want to flop everywhere and its VERY hard to make them move naturally. It's why when you see other animators animate marina, the hair moves in a kind of uncanny way.

I so badly hope we get new hairstyles at least for octolings, while I have no intentions of changing off the one I'm using now it would be great to get more options. Maybe they could also add the scar and freckles that got datamined back in 1.0 and removed right after, as well as more pants options. It would be definitely nice to get some skirts and dresses since the only ones we really have are the pants option and the witch robe. Honestly we just need another non catalog gear update in general since I think chill 2022 was the only one we got in this game

God, I hope Nintendo decides to start adding uniqueness and original customization for inklings and Octolings (alongside with the new species) in the future for Splatoon 4.
I hope Splatoon 4 gets involved with scars/freckles, unique hairstyles for both inklings and Octolings (alongside with the new species), unique clothing instead of reskin clothing, clothing based off from the Splatoon manga and Splatoon doll ones, glowey fingertips/toes, alternative hairstyles, and bring back the collaborations (such as amiibo, anime/manga, and indie/AA game franchise collaborations) for Splatoon 4 as outfits in the future.
My theory is that Nintendo is saving all the good stuff for splatoon 4 to increase new console sales

You know what Splatoon needs? A community workshop where 3D artists can submit their own gear, hair, weapons, etc. for the Splatoon team to consider putting in the game. Like what Team Fortress 2 does, allowing for semi-regular content updates despite TF2's dev team consisting of only a janitor and a potted plant.

Its cuz they are technically different species from the playable characters but like... just have their species be playable? lol
Like technically the squid sisters are cuttlefish and pearl is a pygmy squid Marina is a species of large octopus idr which (this is why shes so big compared to others) deep cut frye is a vampire squid (this is a guess but her sharp and vampiric features make people think she is.)
So thing is if diff species of squid and octopus look diff as octolings and inklings... just let us choose? and hell give us the option to have idol like hairstyles. Imitations that are not quite the same (since absolutely young turflings will want to imitate their idols)
Still wish that abilities were separate from clothing so that people can actually customize the characters without hours of grinding for the gear to be good

Customization is one of my biggest issues with this game. One of the main draws to a multiplayer game is player customizations.
And splatoon I feel lacks alot of originality. Ninjala, a game also on switch, has alot of themes to work with. Want to look like a cyber knight, you can do that, want to be an oni? You can do that.
Splatoon 3 just lacks so much, being a sequel, you'd think we'd atleast get more hair options.
I think ninjala also did well with the fact that, even though you initially have very little options for faces, hair and etc, you can buy more clothing and stuff in the market, and you can even buy HAIR and EMOTES through it. In splatoon, you have all the hair choices, and then you buy the clothes when they rotate into the shops or you win it in grizzco/get it thru amiibo, and there’s no option to buy emotes you want you have to keep grinding for them or basically gamble at the gacha. Buying styles would be a good idea for the game mechanics I think
You know what's a really good idea for customization that the devs should have given us? Customizable weapons. Imagine having your splattershot decked out with stickers and charms. In one pic in the Splat 1 Artbook, it showed a 52. Gal with these charms hanging from the handle. Just imagine instead of the lazy as hell recolour of Custom Dualie Squelchers, we actually got to customize the colour and making it unique to our character, now that would bring a whole new level of customization to the field.
YES and I get that the weapon builds with different brands are diff skins and whatever but I want to have a gun that matches my outfit anyway

my girlfriend and i were discussing this exact topic and she said they should let us choose parts of a hairstyle (bangs, side hair, back, etc) or individually change tentacles to create hairstyles. i agree a million percent.
I also wish that we could stylize the squid/octo markings around our characters eyes as well. It saddens me how only the idol cephalapods get to have more individual looks but we're stuck looking like everyone else.
And to think that we were THIS CLOSE to having cute freckles too!😭come on Nintendo why aren't we allowed to have adorable ocs in game!? Some blush options would be cute as well 😭😭😭😭

My original comment i was gonna post got deleted because of youtube being youtube but what i was saying is seeing these octoling hairstyles and inkling hairstyles made me feel insulted they werent in the game hell some of my ocs would actually have a hairstyle close to it if they did 😭 but they gotta give us those halfassed cuts and customization while somehow splat 2 still has better shit- when i think of making a character its usually using the splat 2 clothes or 1 splat 3 options are either really extra that they dont go with ANYTHING(grizzco 3 clothes) or really boring to the point they redesign it 1000 times like come on i could post 20 options of shirts that are just rebrand splat 2 clothing if you gonna be lazy at least give me previous gear not this half assed shit so what im saying is…. issue with the hairstyles is that they gotta fit into hats and whatnot
while they could make variations for different hats like they did with the afro it might be a bit harder considering the afro is a simple ball shape
then again it probably is pretty easy for them to hide/shrink certain bones, but they'd still have to make a preset for each hat (even if reusing some)
it was pretty nice when they added the ability to adjust clothes, but something i IMMEDIATELY noticed is that it didnt do anything for shoes, which i think is a missed opportunity. most shoes in the game dont come with socks, and i personally dont like how that looks, so why not add an option to wear socks with shoes that dont already have them? i also just think they can stand to expand the amount of hats and shirts that can be adjusted, like allowing players to wear headphones around their neck or glasses on their forehead, maybe even allowing long sleeved shirts to roll up the sleeves.
Yess finally someone said. There needs to be more octoling hairstyles and some of the inkling hair are kinda ugly like the shaved haircut that has a triangle cut into the front. So i wish there'd be better hairstyles in either splatoon 4 or in 3 as an update

i would play the game more if they were more customizations. My friend wanted more pants options and after getting bored of splatoon 2 and viewing splatoon 3, he didn't even bother installing it and he plays more games than i do on the switch.
I played Splatoon 3 and appreciate what they got right, I like how everything has become gender neutral now meaning I can give my female inkling the rolled up sleeved cardigan that was exclusive to the male characters in Splatoon 2. But I totally agree with you in regards to the reskins, it's ridiculous. It's like going to subway and having the exact same sub with the exact same toppings only on different bread. I think to myself, why are so many of these clothes reskins, the Amiibo outfits are more unique but there's only so much you can do with amiibos.
But definitely more pants, dresses, skirts (I miss the squid girl dress in Splatoon 1). Perhaps have socks, bracelets, gloves, etc as a separate customization option, we've only had 3 (tops, hats & shoes) + pants which has never had it's own shop. They need to take some notes from Animal Crossing New Horizons that actually does a really good job at character customization, in fact it is the 3rd best after Zepeto and Sims as I am able to create my main original character very close to her original design (Reference Is In My Avatar). I cannot say the same for Splatoon as the option just isn't there to create her at all.
Splatoon 1 was a fresh coat of paint (no pun intended) at the time and I spent a lot of time playing it, Splatoon 2 was a small upgrade and I spent a fair amount of time playing it. And Splatoon 3 didn't bring much to the table and in my eyes, it's actually the weakest one in regards to replay-ability. Character customization has been lacking since Splatoon 2. I like the tri-color matches in Splatoon 3 but sadly they only happen during Splat-fests and their not gonna last for long. Once Splatoon 3 stops updating, the team will be more focused on the new Animal Crossing game and we'll have to wait for Splatoon 4. Splatoon 3 I barely play, it's like a now and again thing.
In fact, I haven't been addicted to a Nintendo Switch game for more than 100 hours of gameplay since Miitopia in 2021 but I'm hoping Nintendo will turn things around with their new console whenever that'll happen (getting fed up of stupid rumors and Nintendo Directs not mentioning it now). Mid to late 2010s is when Nintendo peaked after the disastrous Wii U and before the Switch was coming to an end.

It’s literally frustrating every concept hairstyle not added in. Actually jaw dropped when I saw a scrapped wolfish cut since every game has been giving us that hairstyle. Fashion is a core part of the series and it feels like 3’s concept of chaos interfered with that at points. I’m not UNHAPPY with the world concept being ragged but you definitely feel the difference between 1 and 2’s more pop cultural look. The scrap yard look technically makes sense for the school iteration, the first one being a common school outfit and the second leaning a little more gyaru (I have not gotten a chance to play 2 properly but it looks to lean into heisei imagery), and the third’s look is a Bancho or school delinquent look which makes sense for two major themes of 3, rough and traditional. Excepts the gear looks half baked and not as visually stunning as it could if it used a traditional cap instead of the fish pick, a more dramatic flair to the jacket and better shoes. I literally saw someone do just that for splatoon when searching up bancho. And even as a non binary person who’s happy they phased out gendering, I’m also low key mad we only got one version of the outfit rather than giving us a Yanki version too. As a player who only really got to join in when 3 came out, I really want to believe that maybe the full dlc release with also bring in a big update like it did for ACNH far into its release. At least more hair options since they’re basically right there and ready. But admittedly I’m looking towards the next iteration at this point the way there’s just some stuff they won’t fix now. Introducing a brand that leans into looks reminiscent of Lolita, jiraikei, yumekawaii and the sort (maybe even decora and fairykei). It doesn’t need to be on the nose but there’s a whole well known style they’re sleeping on, even those gyaru elements in a sense which could even just be reskinning. Let me choose my hair color outside of battles. I know hair coloring isn’t as common in Japan but I hate having to cycle in and out of recon to get my hair color back for photos. Photo mode itself is kind of frustrating to use since you can’t even pose yourself without placing down an amiibo character. It’s been by far the clunkiest of them to use and again, for a game about fashion it’s ridiculously frustrating to work around. If anything I feel like the most exciting customization has been the lockers which I’d like to see expanded in some way. I feel like I’ve heard a lot of people point to an apartment which only worries from the point of view that it doesn’t tie into core mechanics but something like club/team rooms where maybe you could even formally be marked with friends as a team could be nice. When I see locked items like the electric pot, i don’t want to just shove it in a locker to be unused. Again that one worries me since it takes you the most out of the game experience but I feel teased by the potential of a space to decorate.

It's even worse when 2 HAVE chaos gear but it's not in 3. I agree with you on a lot of points and could go all day. The ANCH point hurts more. Since the producers are the same. I really wanna say it's just the new update cycle. I hope the next game does a better job.
I wish there were more ways to feel unique in this game, when I’m looking around the lobby it feels like everyone looks the same. Also wish we had octoling rival hairstyles from s1 and 2.

i feel like a lot of enjoyment i got from splatoon 2 was being able to customize my character with cute and good outfits and clothes, the amount of simplicity they're going for in 3 and the boundry between femininity and masculinity might be good for some, but there should still be a choice imo
they need to bring back the clothes from splatoon 2, i really want the fish skull and the kensa clothes.

You have no idea how many potential customization options you covered lined up with almost exactly what I had in mind for a hypothetical dream Splatoon game art project that I've had sitting on the backburner since Splatoon 3 was announced in early 2021! New hairstyles for both species and an equal number of styles for both, toggleable variants of said hairstyles, facial features like freckles, beauty marks, eye pupil shapes, nose shapes! New legwear! Then, with gear, once you buy or gain certain pieces of gear, you get every version of it that you can toggle at will in the gear menu! Socks as a new gear type entirely, not just as an accessary, that function differently from the other gear types! The ability to stack certain headgear or clothing, although, you'd need to choose which one's secondary abilities take effect as a preventative measure from making players overpowered. The ability to adjust clothing freely, although Splatoon 3 has touched up upon this recently with the twisted hats and oversized shirts; I want to see some crop tops, ngl. Specially designed gloves that you could earn by reaching achievements, such as making it to A-rank, to wear on your hands to show off your feats! The crossover gear, which in my opinion should be gained by tapping amiibo, would be a great addition! Eye shapes are really the only thing I think are fine the way they are now, especially for the playable octolings since their eye masks easily distinguish them from the evil ones from the campaigns.
The only customization options I thought of at one point that wasn't covered by this video are body types and body heights. You should be able to adjust the size and shape of your character. As cool as inklings and octolings look now, there's no way all of them just happened to grow up to be slim and five-foot-even. To allow the player to truly individualize their character[s], I honestly believe a small list of body adjustment options should be available. This is especially true for the characters that players basically make into their personas, as they can really make their character look more like themselves irl or represent their ideal selves!
Like I said, after Splatoon 3 was announced, the project was put on the backburner, since it was supposed to be a 'Splatoon 3' "What if?" deal. However, now that we're closer to the end of the official Splatoon 3's expected lifecycle and Side Order's coming out soon [so excited], all I really need to know is how that DLC's story unfolds in order for me to put the project back into motion under a new name- and with a *bunch* of new ideas I came up with in the meantime!

I love playing as an octoling but I decided to shake it up and I used the inkling bed head style the one with dried tips and I thought why don’t we have a dried tip style for octolings :(

More afro hairstyles like puffs and natural ponytail would be super cute for octo girlies (afro needs a different varient with smaller side burns or baby hairs for girls and maybe longer in the back too), longer hair styles would be very nice too. Those clothes that didnt get imported from Splatoon 2 need to come back asap they were honestly the most stylish and popular i was so disappointed when i couldn't find them.
big on the feminine clothing i think a fluffy tutu could be super cool and like ballet slippers cause that's still sporty but feminine. the clothes seriously feel like they're stuck in 2016-2017
I completely agree with you on so many different levels, I could not stress enough by the unlimited possibilities we could've had, maybe more legwear options instead of the same things from the previous games: crop tops, skirts, or just almost anything in general, other headgears instead of just caps and glasses. And the different hairstyles too, possibly having more hair options such as braids, long hairstyles or short hairstyles such as bobs even custom hairstyles. Also I'm surprised that they didn't bring back the Squid Girl outfits from Splatoon 1. Also we need the Agent 8 gear. It just feels so limited to the amount of hairstyles considering the fact that customization is one of the main aspects of the game. There was this fan-concept of Splatoon 4(I forgot the artist's name but they're pretty talented), and the level of different clothing + hairstyle options were endless along with the different locations away from the city.
I'm sure it was Pufuu. They make really great edits. They Actually fool a lot of people with their edits many times. In fact their rendition of the Splatoon 3 Box Art isn't to far fetched from the official quality.
I want the original octoling look (big tentacles, voices, eyes) since Splatoon 1. Is it so damn hard to add them Nintendo, they're literally already ingame.

I think the main reason why octolings don't have more hair styles is because when splatoon 1 came out inklings were more profitable since there were the first species in the game you could play in splatoon 1

A random wish That I have wanted for a while, is to select a colour that is part of your hair, as a gradient.
Example, I’m a fan of Any blue, so why not have it Fade from the Dark Blue in battle at the top of my hair, to a lighter, icy blue on the edges / tips.
It’s a small thing, but being able to do this would make me more than happy.
I wish we could also pick voices. I may be a man, but my voice is fairly high, and there is a lot of potential there, especially if people Headcannon their characters as being the same Inklings or Octolings from Their previous Game.
I dunno there’s so much potential that hasn’t been discovered yet.

Tbh- the Octolings limited hairstyles is the ONLY reason I play inkling- might sound stupid but there’s so little to work with when making yourself an Octoling- and also, why can’t we have that rival octoling hair? Why can’t we even have Marina’s hairstyle? Why can’t we have ALL of the idols hairstyle? I would love to have the bow into ponytail like Callie! Or the cute bun like Marie- and the devs really don’t have any excuses! The reason that rival octolings are different from playable octolings it’s because rival octolings are not made the same way that playable octolings are. There actually just fully grown octarians and this is even said in the art books Basically, how they are made is where the host, another octoling cuts off one of their tentacles, and then it basically comes alive, and as they age they slowly change and the final stage is turning into a rival octoling and the reason why rival octolings have purple masks around their eyes is because it’s the same thing with Octarians and the reason why they’re so round is because octarians eyes have round masks and their hair more resembles the tentacles of an octarian so that’s the reason they’re not the same. playable octolings are born like inklings which are not born by a host, cutting off a tentacle So this should clear up the problem with the rival octolings not being playable 👍
That's another thing too. I know the Lore for Octolings in Spatsville and in Inkopolis are different. Inklings and Octolings never beefed with each other in Splatsville. The Great Turf War never affected them if I recall. So now it makes me wonder why we truly don't have more eye styles.
i think the main reason for a lot of these features not making it in isn't the developers fault. They have budget and time restriction set by the higher-ups that probably need to be increased. It's the same with all games. It's unfortunate because these features would be so cool.

Another thing about Nintendo ignoring Octolings- back when the feature was first introduced to take pictures on the float after winning a 100x battle, they only had inkling models. I have screenshots of my Octoling having the Octoling hair but the inkling 3D model 💀

It would've been cool to get keychains or something similar for your weapons, which dangle from a set spot on each gun. Or the ability to freely place stickers on your weapons too
Besides the maps I think the biggest problem with Splatoon 3 is the update system. Conceptually the seasons are really cool makes every new content update feel like an event but it has not been executed well. Every season has felt lackluster with its content we never get enough to warrant a 3 month wait between them. We get little new clothes, very few weapons, and then they throw in something that’s a little bit interesting to grab our attention like a new map or special and that’s it. I really wish they jam packed these seasons with more stuff like all of the customization possibilities you mentioned in the video.

What if there was this wandering merchant that sold rare gear (like the exclusive korokoro gear and collaboration gear from splatoon 1). I know it sound dumb but it could work. I was thinking it could have some sort of challenge and reward system.
I actually had an idea like that. I want the Shell-Out Machine to be worth something other than food tickets that are useless by Level 30. They could do it. Someone coming in sell time frames to sell you rare clothing.
