Man I remember when that album came out like it was yesterday. What a game changer Vernon Reid and their sound was. It was impossible to play it loud enough LOL! Their front man Corey Glover also played a role in the movie Platoon. Thanks for the lesson and memories.
a technique I do with the main riff, is instead of fretting the G with my index, I use my thumb(a la Jimi Hendrix); with that, I have an anchor and don't need to move my hand position, might take a bit of practice if you're not used to fretting with the thumb

If you are having difficulty with the rhythmic flow and speed , you can play the 5th fret D note on the open D string . It actually feels much more natural to me . Just my opinion. Thanks Marty
