I preferred paper, or always thought I did until I downloaded navionics last month to have a play around. one thing that I found that did shock me though was that as you play with the tidal curve the depth numbers change on the chart, so they don't appear to be CD but actuals. I think if that is the case it should be very clearly spelled out on the app chart itself. maybe it is and I have just missed it. in coastal work you could easily reference that chart at a high tide and find by the time you are getting to where you were looking it was low and no longer enough water. I prefer CD. maybe there is a setting somewhere but I haven't found it. course to steer is a big thing missing as well.
