Hello everyone and welcome back to Hacks with Christina. In today’s video, I am going to show you how to clean tarnish off of your jewelry. This is an easy method that you can perform at home so no need to run out to the jewelry store. I’ve taken 5 pieces of jewelry to show you how this method works on each one. I have a pair of silver elephant earrings which are heavily tarnished, a ring, and three necklaces. One necklace is silver while the other two are plated brass. Grab a bowl and line it with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Add about a tablespoon of baking soda, a half a cup of boiling water, a half a cup of vinegar, - which I combined into a glass, and your jewelry. Make sure each piece of jewelry is touching the aluminum foil. After 10 minutes, take out the jewelry and dry it off with a microfiber cloth. This will remove any remaining residue. First up out of the solution was the earrings. I couldn’t believe how good these looked after being heavily tarnished. Not only is the tarnished removed but the earrings shine. Next is the silver necklace. This had a lot of tarnish on the chain and the crevices of the shell. I am really happy about how this one turned out as well. The ring which was probably in the best condition out of all of the jewelry looks really polished. The first brass plated necklace also turned out well after wiping off the excess tarnish with a microfiber cloth. And finally the fleur de le necklace which was heavily tarnished and also had a lot of crevices and hard spots to clean, unfortunately did not look a lot better after sitting in the solution. I would definitely stick to silver plated jewelry for this cleaning method. I hope you found this video very helpful! Please comment, like, subscribe, and hit that notification bell for more hacks! I’ll see you in my next video, bye!
I like how you were honest about the last one!!
You ma’am are a GOD SEND didn’t have any baking soda or vinegar, but used baking soda from Arm and Hammer carpet cleaner powder and some window cleaner came out like NEW, blessings to you!! Something that actually works 👍🏾
Thank you….just tried today and it worked on my charms …looks nice and clean
I'm soooo happy, it works, I followed the directions exactly as you said and you can see it working 😅 the rust color went away right before my eyes!!!!
Holy heckins! This worked an absolute treat!!! Thank you!!
Hi, I found this helpful. I'm a reseller and I'm new to selling jewelry. Do we need to start the process over again if we have other batches of jewelry that need cleaning or can I use the solution that is already in the bowl over again?
Thank u for this awesome life saver!
Thank you so much it worked
Thank you. It really works
It worked! Not for all my jewelry but I’m very impressed with the ones that came out good. Thanks for sharing. Please, I’m curious to know. Is it okay to repeat the process a few times till one gets a satisfactory outcome?
did it damage the ones it didn’t work on?
@@hart.cowboy24 no, it didn't.
Thank you!!!🙏
it workeddd thank youuu ❤
Does this work for fake jewellery too?
Im also curious 🤔🤔🤔
Yes i saw an article that said this is also a good method for fake jewelry
@iqrashahid252 I have same Question
@@madeeha2022the video is for fake jewelry and says so in the tutle
Yeah, it said, plated, brass, the fake jewelry assuming you’re referring to is brass plated with a thin layer of gold
I hope you get all of your silver polished!
What about costume jewelry like copper bracelets ?
Thanku
You're welcome!
thanks u so much... It's Work 😘😘
You’re welcome!
can i use this method for gold jewelry as well?
Yes!
@@Etcheri3 thank u!!
Did it work?
@@purrfectJuliet sadly, no. I don't know what I did wrong but the jewelry just came out smelling acidic 😭🙏
@@zxinxbb aw man, alright thanks
How does the aluminum foil help remove the tarnish ?
The tarnish will transfer from the jewelry to the aluminum foil due to a chemical reaction.
Any kind of vinegar works
Does this work for gold colored?
How long do you have it sit and. Does on gold jewelry too?
I have a necklace of me when i was 4 years old and still wear it, and its gotten to the point where its so tarnished that you cant even see my 4 year old self! So i tried this method, and now im waiting to see if this cleans it.
It did not work. Maybe because its just bronze or copper?!
I have found this method to work best on silver or silver plated jewelry.
Do we have to use a microfiber cloth?
Not required. Just be sure to use something that will not scratch the jewelry.
Can you do sterling silver jewelry?
Yes!
I dont have alluminum foil
Hi! Overall, I like the video. Two things. First off, this is not a hack you're not using the components in any way that's different or unusual or unexpected. Secondly, you really need to put a caveat in there regarding Opals and pearls. Anybody using this method with Opals or pearls is going to be extremely unhappy with the results. Boiling water will obliterate opals, as they cannot take the high temperature, and vinegar will destroy pearls, which are organic
What ingredients you used pls
Watch the video
Can you use a paper towel
Paper towels could scratch the jewelry. Make sure to use something that will not scratch.
Can you use apple cider vinegar ?
Yes. Also sometimes ketchup works fine too as it has enough vinegar to react.
whats a micro fibber cloth
Just Saltwater and aluminum foil would do the trick here. It is an established method to clean silver.
Baking soda and vinegar is useless, because they cancel each other out, you end up with salt water....
U need a DJ for your back round music love ur hacks but we gotta stop the elevator back round music
Hate to troll, but I came here for advice but couldn’t last the whole video because of the vocal fry🤯
Where did it come from? It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me
"Christina Cleans" would be an awesome name for your channel.
That’s a good one. Thanks for the suggestion.
