      Yeah. Navigating through city traffic, especially during peak hours, is never a pleasant experience, any transmission. It would be nice to own a helicopter in busy cities.

    Great video, can you please explain what situations you need to go into first gear and how to approach situations where there is a car in front of you when turning or coming around the roundabout and you have stopped. Thank you

      A good rule of thumb is to go into first gear every time you make a full stop. If you are moving, even at first gear speeds, the second gear will do you well.

    At an intersection where you cannot see very far to oncoming cars you would put clutch in on second gear to prepare for a complete stop and put it first gear right?

    is it ok to put in neutral and apply brake or hand brake while waiting for green light?

  • @dizoce9069
    @dizoce9069 2 года назад +2

    So switch to neutral and use the break to slow down when coming to lights and when you've come to a complete stop with the break keep the break in while waiting and also put the clutch in with the break and put it in 1st while waiting for the light ?

    • @Reuben-z6o
      @Reuben-z6o 3 месяца назад

      @@dizoce9069 no that is the same as coasting, never have the vehicle in neutral while the car is running unless you are waiting for a long time i.e. at a railway crossing and if going for your test you must have the handbrake on until you switch back to first and are ready to go. It's a bad habit ,I used to do this and this is why i still don't have my licence at 31 years of age.

    • @Reuben-z6o
      @Reuben-z6o 3 месяца назад

      No, this is the same concept as coasting, you should never have the vehicle in neutral while in motion and if you are at a light waiting for a long time I.e. a railway crossing , if you choose to put it in neutral you should also use the handbrake until it's almost your time to go then clutch in and break, 1st gear then handbrake down and off you go, coming from a 31 year old without his licence who used to have this habit.

    I did not pass my first PDA because of vehicle manage. Moreover I failed because of "coasting/slipping clutch" which I don't understand. In section 2 LSB I was on a steep hill, and I did a hill start and didn't gear up to second (1. steep hill 2. was about to RHT) and slowed down put the clutch, but then brought it up half way slowly then completely when I made the full revolution. I know personally if I let the clutch up while turning, 1. I would've stalled and 2. I would've been too fast to complete the manoeuvre safely. I got marked down cause I held the clutch halfway up/sliping. I think it was necssary safe and reasonable to do that, can someone explain why that was incorrect.

    When moving out of your parking spot at a parking lot, should I put the car in gear before letting go of the hand brake or should I let go of the hand brake first before putting in gear?

    • @DrivingSchoolWA
      @DrivingSchoolWA  3 года назад +1

      You have to have in the first gear in a Manual car before you let go of the handbrake. Automatic as well, but no big deal in an Auto. I will shoot the video on hill start with manual as soon as the weather gets a little better.

    • @DrivingSchoolWA
      @DrivingSchoolWA  Год назад

      You are welcome. It will depend on the size of the intersection and sharpness of angle. You shouldn't drag it in the 1st gear through the intersection if you can change safely

    what to do if going to a traffic light? do I change down gears

    • @DrivingSchoolWA
      @DrivingSchoolWA  3 года назад +4

      You can, but not necessary. It's best to slow down until your speed decreases to about 20 kms or slightly less if you are in 3rd or second gear prior to stopping, simply push the clutch and gently stop. Then select 1st gear as you are waiting to proceed.

      @@DrivingSchoolWA why In AU you guys teach to be in the traffic lite with the first gear? What about the traffic jam? First gear all the time as well? in the event of the car behind bumping you your foot could slip off the clutch, propelling you into the car in front - what’s then? Doesn’t make sense. It’s not practical at all, what’s the point of ruining your leg muscle ?
      Is there any real reasons behind that ? The ones that make this simple action “a mistake”. Could you please explain?

    I am still trying to figure out how to correct myself, whenever I approach a stop sign, intersection, roundabout and traffic lights while 4th gear in, I was told to slow down and change it to 2nd gear, if I have to stop, then have to change it to 1st and that I should always start at 1st after I stop. But my problem is whenever I change gear from 4th to 2nd, it gets so bumpy and feels like hitting a hump. And it seems like the only way of driving smoothly is to hold the clucth a little longer but I was told by the assessor that I was coasting. Now, I dont know what to do. Please help. 😭

      I answered in the other video just a minute ago where you asked this question, here it is pasted here
      *Slow down before you press the clutch and do it early enough. Once your speed drops to roughly 40 km per hour (depending on a car you're driving) than select the second gear, and gently release the clutch, don't drop the cluch (contol it with your foot when it comes upwards) especially if you are still moving fast. It's a 100 percent fix. If you want a top quality lesson, book with us, pick Josephine or Rob South of the River or Nima North of the River if you are in Perth Cheers!*

      Use your break lightly and go down to 3rd as the breaks get you closer to the usual speed you would shift to 3rd at, then do the same down to 2nd, once in 2nd your speed will be so low already that you could clutch to neutral and break lightly until you come to the full stop for lights / intersections

    • @dizoce9069
      @dizoce9069 2 года назад

      the closer you get to the shifting speed before shifting and the slower you bring the clutch out the smoother the transition will be, if you're at a higher speed then shift from 4th to 2nd and let the clutch out quick that's why the car would jump / jolt like hitting a speed bump at high speed, let the clutch out slowly and smoothly to let the gears slow you without causing huge damage to the transmission

    • @DrivingSchoolWA

      Keep in fist gear with clutch in of course, foot brake firm and wait for the light to change. Reason: You are ready to move as soon as the light changes. We need to be mindfull of the traffic behind us. 🖐

      Not always, it depends on where you stall. Example: in carpark no big deal, but in the middle of the intersection is always problematic.
