As someone who had 0 knowledge on anything wiring related, thank you for teaching me how to wire my own lamp. I wish a lot more tutorials were simple like this, makes it so much easier
@@nonscioap Thanks! Just a quick question, do you have/would you make a tutorial on how to hook up multiple light sockets to a single plug? For lamps with more than one bulb?
@@Motowad I have had a request for this several times now and it is in my queue. So to answer you question, no, but it will be available soon! In the meantime look up some information on wiring light bulbs in series. It sounds like that is what you are trying to achieve. Best of luck, and please let me know if you have any other questions!
I agree! I was just looking for a simple wiring video. YT is flooded with, albeit interesting and creative, tutorials on lamps you can make with fairy lights and flameless LED candles, I was glad to finally find this one, which showed me exactly what I needed to know! Ty Andrés Pineda!
Andres!!!!Thank you brother. Love the information you provided in this video. Impressive! People like you, who take the time to share knowledge with the world are the unrecognized heroes of this planet. RUclips is a great community resource and it is so fortunate that individuals such as yourself care enough to pass on the knowledge. I am inspired to create my own lamps now. I am an artist and your video just blew me away. Now I will use the knowledge I have been blessed with to make something really cool. Time to get creative!!!. Thank you once again. Peace.love.respect.
Thanks for the video, it would've been a bit more helpful if your hands didn't keep getting out of the shot. But all in all, I learned a lot! Could you post one about attaching multiple bulbs? I know you said to wire them all in parallel, but a visual would help. :) Keep it up!
2 things. 1) I probably would've tinned the ends of the wires for maximum connectivity. 2)Using a black sharpie to mark a line on both ends of the ground wire would've saved you time on all the taking things back apart and reassembling them. Other than that good basic tutorial
Luana Mae For a three plug the only difference is one wire is used as a “ground” (green). So you have your “neutral” (white) which goes to the silver screw. Your “hot” (black) which goes to the gold screw. Then the “ground” (green) which goes to the green screw. Thats the only difference.
I have similar plug that I'm trying to convert to a british 3 pin plug. Any idea which of those two wires are neutral and which one is the live one? They both look the same
many lamps sold in stores only allow 15 or 40 watt light bulbs, what happens if i put a 100 watt light bulb in there? will it give me the brightness? i heard it's fire hazard if i do that. so should i change the base that will accommodate 100 watt light bulbs?
Magic! hahah I'm curious if you'd have any content on how to change the on/off button to somewhere else? Because it's too close to the bulb, I think its not super "aesthetically pleasing". Also; is this the same process with LED bulbs?
A OK is because am try to make a lamp but I don't know how to ma the base from the shade the metal so my question is if I can made on my one without welding the piece sorry am learning how to write English am Mexican jiji I don't mean the wire I was talking about just the metal base from the shade
The wires have the same copper on both sides, so either one can be positive or negative. The important thing to remember is to connect one of the sides to positive on both ends, and one side to negative on both ends so they match. He did this in the video by showing that the silver screw went to the silver prong and the gold screw went to the gold prong.
Lamp cords usually have a ridged insulator on one of the wires. Convention has the ridged wire going to the wide, neutral prong and the silver screw on the socket. The narrow prong (smooth insulated side of wire) is the hot side.
it would be easyer just us wire stripper that cost the same price as the exacto knife. and that guy that say use you teeth I did that to my phone charger it way easier and it free.
Should we really take furniture/fixture advice from somebody who uses a box cutter on a nice, finished wood table without any protection whatsoever? His parents are going to be ticked off!
You are suppose to tie a electrician's knot in the cap of the socket. That was the reason I watch your annoying video. Half the time I couldn't see what you were doing.

Perfect. Thanks. I'm adding some LED filament bulbs to my PC, and couldn't think of how to go about that. this is perfect.
Thanks for your simple to follow instructions.
Thank bruh! Just assembled and replaced my tent lamp socket thanks to your instructions!🙌🏾
*cuts into table* "That is mahogany!!!"
The last thing I was expecting from a electrical assembly tutorial was a “the Summoning” reference
I realize it's kind of off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Roman Stetson i use FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
This video is sick
i love lamps and this video really helped thank you for helping me in my lamp building journey

Yes I can finally make that lamp out of trophies project I missed in 6th grade.

How would you string multiple bulbs together? Your video has been the closest help for this so far.

why u watching if youre such a lamp expert?
Shoop! I love it!!
I'd love instructions on how to do a three socket hanging lamp that I want to put inside a lantern. How would I wore three together?
Colour one side of wire with felt tip sharpie it washes off with a lysol wipe.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing.
I would love to see the camera on what you are doing. thanks
Hands down the best tutorial I've seen. I wish to add a separate toggle switch. Could you give me some advice on how to wire it?
Where did you purchase your two-prong plug?
I enjoy your video, keep up the great work! I make similar videos too :)
Will please do a video connecting TWO bulbs in series. How do we connect either to the plug? Thanks.
THANK YOU.
Hi, could you please make a video with a three plug?
Luana Mae your right he takes too long

What that white colour wires are called as please tell anyone about this wires
Yeah good Vid thanks.
its the best useful.
You could put a silver mark and a gold marker on the plug
how did you open the bulb socket?
How would I add 12 fixtures to one length of wire?
Thanks it was very helpful but any tips on how to make a battery operated lamp. Anyone?
I have similar plug that I'm trying to convert to a british 3 pin plug. Any idea which of those two wires are neutral and which one is the live one? They both look the same

are the materials available at home depot?
Duh
How do you know which one is negative and which one is positive?

What kind of materials do I need?
“Standard”
Who doesn’t know what standard materials are? 😜
Would i shock myself if i put silver on gold and vice versa when plugging to wall and turning switch on? Anybody? Thanks
I think mentioning which side of the wire is pos.and which side is neg. and how to tell the difference before you start wiring.
There is no positive and negative side. Watch the video. The positive and negative is on the hardware not the wiring.
Look at a lamp cord. One side is ridged the other is smooth. Ridged goes to neutral (wide prong) and silver screw on socket.
Why wouldn’t you have just fed the wire through the housing first before connecting prongs less wire travel time
Why would you cut into a nice wood surface?
+R Pierce Why do you care, it's his table?
+Amy West Your right!
lol

In my school do that.
Need a new camera person. Couldn’t always see what was being done. Informative nonetheless.
Indeed indeed.
Your video cuts out a lot of what you are doing when your hands. Aren't extended...but I got the gist of what to do
Mmmmmm I dunno about this video it was so confusing no joke
am am ah aaa am most of the video
Horrible cam! half the video is not visible!
I made it by myself. I used Avasva solutions for that.
Great video.... but you literally said "....umm" over 70 times.... that was a little annoying.
Painfully slow....
Should we really take furniture/fixture advice from somebody who uses a box cutter on a nice, finished wood table without any protection whatsoever? His parents are going to be ticked off!
Haha you got schooled
You slown the video to get more money not actually intertaining
You say "um" so many times it's hard to focus on what you're saying
You are suppose to tie a electrician's knot in the cap of the socket. That was the reason I watch your annoying video. Half the time I couldn't see what you were doing.
Box cutter huh. Why not just use your teeth? Silly man.
Are you serious?
I agree
