- This week’s episode celebrates one of the most influential designers of the 1920s and 30s and one of the greatest couturiers of the 20th century… Jeanne Lanvin.
Jeanne Lanvin’s career spanned 6 decades and she is perhaps best known for pioneering her signature style, the robe de style.
Madame Lanvin, more than anyone else, epitomised the aesthetic of feminine beauty and elegance and her unique balance of romanticism, historicism and modernism set her apart from her contemporaries.
Her identifiable characteristic included embroideries, beading, ethnographical inspiration, sublime combinations of textures and original use of colour.
Throughout her career, Madame Lanvin remained at the cutting edge of fashion, producing beautiful, highly wearable and elegant clothes.

At 15:07 and 15:41 the name of Lanvin’s previous designer was ALBER ELBAZ (NOT ALBERT as the video states).

Great job again Scott, very enjoyable and educational! This is my favorite so far because of the dresses, that purple gown with the collar, OMG, to die for! @@Fashionand I definitely will! I certainly look at clothing design as veritable art -whether we're talking ethnic wear or haute couture. It saddens me that because they also have this very practical dimension, they are given less credit than other varieties of visual art.

My best association with Lanvin is that the first perfume my mother really enjoyed, was Lanvin's MY SIN. That logo always intrigued me until I found out the story behind it. But I think her fashion designs are dowdy and for dowagers.
Scavione doesn’t sound like a Scottish name. Is that a lowlands clan? 🤣🥰
It’s Italian, I’m Italian on my fathers side! My lovely mum was Scottish x
So erudite.
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed ❤️
