    I just received my Les Paul CM two days ago, it's had a few mods installed, (Sperzel Locking Tuners & a Seymour Duncan JB) and so far, I'm really likng it! The craftmanship is great, neck is the perfect size for me, and the lighter weight is a relief for me, after playing my 9 lb. Standard and 10 lb. Custom for years. the single humbucker is a great idea, I wish Gibson made a few more models with them. I got it for $400, less than a new Epiphone .No complaints here.

    I own the 2016 CM T model of this guitar (no robo-tuners) and I love it - it's my favorite guitar! It's lightweight, comfortable, easy to play, fits perfectly in my hands. Love the satin finish. Looks awesome. Got a good deal, too, back in 2016 because I got an open box special...little ding on the head stock, that's about it. I found the 61 Zebra pickup a bit bright to my ear, so I switched it out for a Seymour Duncan JB but, otherwise, everything is stock (and the intonation is almost perfect).

    I saw two of these at a sam ash in clearwater florida in early spring of this year on vacation they were real cheap like around $400.0 thought about buying it and having them mail it to my house. I have a less paul jr. From 2015 with the g force system. I use this guitar all the time for different tunings. You have to download load the instructions from gibson and do the recalibration mode every time you change strings and it works perfectly. Love the g force for playing different tunings on the fly. Using this guitar now to learn system of a down they play alot of tunes in drop c. Need to play a song in half step down or drop d or standard tunning takes 30 seconds but the key is to do all of the recalibration modes when you change strings. Also changed p 90 pickup to a duncan double stack p90 had to make the route hole deeper for that to fit.

    • @Duke_Silver
      @Duke_Silver 4 года назад +2

      You can also make your own tunings. It`s useful when you want to play something with a tuning different than A=440Hz. Some older songs have guitars tuned to different pitch than 440Hz- Jimi Hendricks for example.

      @@Duke_Silver exactly ! i dont think they should have put it on every model that year. i bought the les paul jr because it was cheap and was willing to take a risk on it. I use this guitar all the time for giging out. Your right about doing the custom tunings on it were it might be a quarter pitch higher or lower to play along with some songs. You have to do the calibration stuff when you change strings every time and mine works perfect.

    • @Duke_Silver
      @Duke_Silver 4 года назад

      @@jerryfraker377 Yeah, I agree. I bought these tuners from Tronical, because I was curious if they`re any good. I wouldn`t put them on all of my guitars, but I think having them on one of your guitars gives you an advantage for changing the tunings fast. I just think they should have some kind of small lcd display, so you wouldn`t have to memorize how to change them, which tuning goes where and so on. But since we start talking about them, I checked the Tronical website and it seems they have a new model with a color display. Now I`m thinking of upgrading, lol

Found out you had to download instructions from gibson. Its 29 pages long. This explained everything. I think alot of people didnt do this and probably had tunning accuracy problems because they didn't do the calibrations when the strings were changed and that is why g force gets a bad rap.

    As anyone who has ever read any of my comments when Austin reviews a single pickup guitar should know, I do not like single pickup guitars lol. I have the Sully Erna which is a single pickup and I love it but I always wish I had another pickup there lol. That being said, I like this CM model! Of course I still wish it had two pups but as it stands I like the looks of this one and the price is much more where In would expect a single pup to be at and not the crazy stupid price of a Junior. When You sell a single pup guitar that is also a flat top for the same price as a regular carved top two pup model, I think that's crazy, the ones who pay that price are even crazier lol. This guitar has some sass to it and individuality to it. Now I will say that the single pup guitars should get a little more sustain, but that's not always the case if they put a less powerful pup in it. I really liked the floyd rose model as well!
    I think CM stands for something that Gibson doesn't want to tell us what it means..to Gibson. What's a word that does not start with a C but the C is sort of more pronounced that the actual first letter of the word? A word that would fit with this kind of a guitar, inexpensive, downgraded model? eConomy Model! I bet you anything this is what CM really stands for but Gibson didn't go with EM because people would figure out what that means. Just my guess and opinion but I think I am right. Austin, we haven't heard the Trogly theme in awhile, you sort of played it here lol. Almost at 70k subscribers!!

    • @alabamahebrew

      @@stepvanjoe3469 Well I guess if it's made by Gibson or Epiphone, has that shape and is made of those woods and the electronics are placed as they are and other appointments as well, then it's a Les Paul. This one does not bother me nearly as much as those Les Paul Junior's. As far as I know the juniors are all flat tops, but it does seem there were a few with the carved top. As I have said many times before, to me the single most irritating thing about the juniors is their price. If you go right now to the Gibson web page you will see that a brand new 2019 Gibson Les Paul Studio is selling for $1,499.00 As I am sure you know, the Studio's have everything a Standard has except.. no binding and sometimes lesser grade pickups.Other than that, the Studio is a regular Les Paul. Right next to the Studio you can find the brand new 2019 Gibson Les Paul Junior and it is selling for $1,499.00!! No carved top,one pickup, ugly colors and no three way switch, also no binding. How can anyone justify paying the same price for literally half the guitar? People say , " Because it's a Junior!!" and I say, so what? Even used, the Juniors are still being sold for as much if not more than a studio. I just will never understand the attraction to these single pup guitars, when they are being sold at these prices. One that is $600 or less? OK, maybe, but anything over that I think is a rip off.

I think mine might be the CM HP model as opposed to the traditional CM that you have. I bought it for $250 Canadian as a used instrument, got rid of the G Force tuners in a trade, and currently the guitar is with my tech for a pelham blue refin, a changeover to creme plastics, and a set of nickel Grovers. Lots of stock pots have a bad/poor taper for guitar applications as I'm sure your aware more then most. But luckily replacing pots is a very easy thing to do with something nicer or more specific to what you want. But in your situation it makes perfect sense why you would leave it stock unless maybe a customer requested the upgrade. I always replace the tone pots and before installing the new ones I open the new pot and scratch off a tiny bit of the conductive material so from 1 - 9.8 it's a regular pot but after 9.8 it's a no load pot. It's easy to do as long as you take a little off at a time and check it in between taking little bits off with a multimeter. Razor blade, dust off, electronics cleaner an a multimeter and you can turn any pot into a no load pot(We'll almost any pot lol, as long as your able to access the wiper an pad/trace). You can buy no load pots as most people are aware but they'll cost more and reduce your options so I prefer to just buy the pot I want a make it myself. But id love to find a way to make a dimple at the point of the pot where it goes from regular to no load so you can feel it and know if your using the regular pot or the no load section which is what Bournes no load pots do. Also I recently discovered the massive tonal difference by wiring my 2 humbucker 2 volume guitars the gibson way of coupled volume pots. I'd always wired them decoupled so I could blend the pickups better in the middle position but up until recently I had no idea how much top end and clarity I was loosing by wiring the volumes decoupled like that. Coupled sounds much much better and retains much more of the pickups tone. The only draw back is they don't blend as well in the middle position but it's completely worth it. I also went from always using audio pots for everything which works better for decoupled wired volume pots to using linear volumes and an audio tone pot. Which is the more traditional way but I never liked linear pots with decoupled volumes. I think that's why you get so many different opinions on which pots are best to use where, it really comes down to how your wiring your pots and how you want them to taper, there's a ton of different ways to do it all with their pros an cons. Even two pairs of pots of the same type and value can vairy dramatically as far as how they taper which makes it even more confusing to a beginner. For anyone reading this who doesn't know how their volumes are wired it's easy to find out. If your in the middle position and you roll one volume all the way off and leave the other turned up and all sound cuts out your guitar is wired the gibson way (Coupled/Dependent) and if you do the same thing but you still have sound from the pickup that's still turned up then your guitars wired for decoupled/indepemdent volume pots. I wish I would have known sooner that any benefit you might get with decoupled pots is heavily overshadowed by the fact it causes you to loose a lot of high end etc. Switching the wiring from decoupled to coupled or vice versa is very simple. You'd just reverse the wires on the volume pots. So you leave the ground lug alone as it is and reverse the other two wires. Anyways that was quite an off topic ramble, lol sorry.

      SamFisher338 frx is beast if you set it up right..as you can see I installed a chrome one on my silverburst lp & you can do extreme barring and it holds tune(never goes out of tune for me). My previous experience is with strat trem & Ibanez double locking & frx blows them away..the thing is setup..if not done correctly touching bar will throw you outta tube. Another pro is it’s entirely surface mount(no routing) if for whatever reason you’d like to convert back to stoptail

    • @SamFisher338
      @SamFisher338 4 года назад

      @@kodas3366 Doesn't it force you to have very high action though? I've seen people (and pictures) saying that it does since it's so tall from the body surface, and that it's also uncomfortable itself because of the shape. But the concept appeals a lot to me.

    • @kodas3366
      @kodas3366 4 года назад

      I mean..it’d work with super low action, but you’d have to route to accommodate tension screw lowering(floating bridge has to be at certain angle for trem stop ball to function properly giving it that emphasized away from body appearance) Atm I’ve got it as low as it’ll go without doing that.

    • @kodas3366
      @kodas3366 4 года назад

      It’s a little 1/6” or so wide screw that’s 1 side of tension(it moves when you use bar) lowest piece of bridge. Logically you could drop the action as low as you desire with work..

    nice guitar, single piece wraparound stoptail also adds a nice rubbery pick attack/string attack, Billy Joe Armstrong Green Day power chords. the wraparound's are sounding better than a two-piece bridge to me lately.

    For the 2016 model CM T there is an alternate that is the CM HP. I got one from the gibson demo shop. There isn't a lot different about it, mostly that I can see is that the heal joint is sculpted. Maybe that could be added as the 6th model listed?

    Everybody hates the GForce, but I look at it from a different point of view - the system is great, especially for us players with fine motor skills problems, who should never have been able to play if the doctors had their say, but managed to learn by ourselves with a lot of willpower and determination. I'm a professional musician, have been playing guitar for 28 years now (since I was 17) and I have to say the GForce works very well (I have a 2015 Goldtop and this one), very reliable on stage, never fails for a quick tuning. I recommend it strongly, too bad that Gibson stopped manufacturing it. If somebody doesn't like the system, they can always take it off or buy a different model. :-) It should stay as an option at least on some models.

    Would the posts line up?

    • @VaughnDingus
      @VaughnDingus 4 года назад

      If you are asking if Bridge posts line up with tail piece posts the answer is no. The tail piece posts are wider and larger than bridge posts. I guess you can pull out the bridge posts, plug the holes, then re-drill them. At that point it would be easier to buy a SG that already has a wraparound bridge.

    • @Iheartdgd
      @Iheartdgd 4 года назад

      nathan popejoy I was actually asking if the wrap around bridge would fit the posts of the original bridge allowing me to swap it out without any modifications :) and after thinking about it, I don’t see why it wouldn’t, plugging the holes for the tail piece is the only thing holding me back at this point.
      And the particular SG I’m talking about is my main guitar and an SG-1 that I completely modded out, love it dearly and couldn’t replace it, but I don’t see too many single pickup SGs out there
