- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 20 visited Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He offered prayers and sought blessings at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. An elephant at Ranganathaswamy Temple blessed the Prime Minister and played a mouth organ. Narendra Modi is the first prime minister to visit Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Tiruchirappalli. Prime Minister Narendra Modi listened to a scholar reciting verses from the Kamba Ramayanam at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.

This is a wonderful verse in which poet Kambar says how words are not enough to describe the beauty of Lord Rama's form. The words the singer repeats are - Maiyyo, maragathamo, mari kadalo, mazhai mugilo, ivan vadivu, aiyyo ivan vadivenbadhu or azhiyaa azhagu udaiyar...meaning ' Is He dark as the kohl, or the glowing emerald, or the ocean , or the rain clouds...aiyyo His form is of timeless beauty.' This is my poor translation of the great poet so pls forgive if something is incorrect.

We from southern part of India, abit lucky as our temples not destroyed to the extent that happened in northern India. No wonder MODI coming to temples in TN. Our ancestors aura still exists in these temples and should take their blessings to make INDIA,a temple country. The essence/vibes of TN temples should spread all over INDIA.
We can not save the temple but atleast we have saved every God idol,Still they are worshipped in their orginal places irrespective of the temple building, we north indian have renovated our tirths like Ayodhya,mathura,Kashi,Gaya,prayagraj,gangasagar,dwarka,ujjain,dakor,etc
Even I think south indian tirths like Chidambaram can not be saved from mughals, but Natraj idol is saved ,they have a destroyed a gopuram of chidambaram.
It is bcoz we North Indians were fighting with Mughals for temples. For you too
North india was very vulnerable for mughal attacks so it happened but now everything will be restored. Even marraiges were done in night in fear of devil mughals.even padada on head was bcos of that only. Mughal did not leave any women if find alone. So women still hardly go out after 7.00pm.

Lot of temples destroyed even in south ex: HAMPI mainly in KA, chidambaram,Srirangam etc in TN, trikut temple etc in TELANGANA. We can see lot of temples converted to masjids in south India too. South mostly protected by Marathas, VIJAYANAGARA kings. Many temples reconstructed, or left with minimum damage. But not like NORTH INDIAN situation.. felt heart wrenching pain after seeing kutub minar. They destroyed our 27 temples for that. No social/hostoty book in my childhood days mentioned it.
We don't understand but I respect our culture.. this is our ancestor's gift to me..love from Bihar.. Jai Hind 🙏🙏🙏🙏.

The singer is Shri Sikkil Gurucharan, one of the accomplished Carnatic musicians in the circuit today. The person clad in saffron seated behind the Violinist is Kamba Varidhi Ilangai Jeyaraj Iyya, who is an expert in Kamba Ramayana and other Tamil Scriptures.

Kamban describing the beauty of Rama says that he makes one wonder whether it is the collyrium, or emerald, or the deep blue ocean or the rainbearing cloud that is waliking and finally finding not suitable term to describe Rama, says that his beauty which is eternal makes the beholder exclaim, "Alas! What a form! " Kamban uses the word `aiyo,' which normally denotes alarm but here it denoted the desperation of the poet in finding suitable word to describe Rama. But he further described Rama walking along with Seetha enjoying the scenes on the way in many beautiful verses This verse is one of the gems of Kamban.

An important aspect missing in the description is the fact that the PM, the artists and scholars are sitting under the very same granite canopy, called mandapam, under which Kambar in the 12th century first recited the Ramavataram, his Magnum Opus running to over 10,500+ verses.

The way this song is rendered brings tears to my eyes. We all admire Kambar's Raamaayanam for his poetry. But I did not know it could be so great in the music form. Thanks to this singer for bringing out this. It would be nice if he could sing more such songs from Kambar's Raamaayanam.
