I was taken to an Anita Baker concert when I was 6 & she was mesmerizing & I saw her again a few years ago in Miami & she was so captivating, crowd called for an encore - my bestie & I were in tears watching & the band was DYNAMIC. It was all in her vocal artistry, & production of band grooves & music arrangements. Spike Lee did direct one of her videos, No One in the World, which was a throwback to the old days of the Apollo Theater in Harlem. A cool collab you might enjoy from a live Kenny Loggins concert in the Redwoods, is a song called Love Will Follow, that features beautiful R&B singer, Shanice. Cool band, vocal blend & quality audio visual production.
So down to earth. Saw her in 2018 and she asked the audience if they liked her dress. After everyone clapped, she said good, cause it’s the same dress she would be wearing throughout the entire night! She also told us her shoes would be coming off in about 20 minutes…and they did! LOL
My favourite singer across both genders, and she always chose a banging band to back up those superior vocals. By the way, that grooving bassist is Gerald Albright whose main instrument is sax.
Anita is far better than Beyoncé on this song, Anita wrote it, made it famous and is still singing it with incredible vocals at 64. Anita Baker is a living legend, her tone is amazing and unmatched. Soon as she opens her mouth know it is Anita singing.
For me, one of the most impressive thing about this version was that she did this song right after "Watch Your Step" which is a... I guess mid to fast tempo song. It was a high energy song and she dance about a minute on the stage as well. She seems to have less than 10 seconds break before starting this performance. And she still delivered this, in my opinion, the best version of this song. She is one of the greatest of all time, ever.
It’s a stylistic thing but she tricks you into believing the song is lower than it is because she makes her voice sound heavier.. all it takes is for you to try to sing it where she did and u will know lol
