I used to have a similar hardtop for my Triumph Spitfire, now thinking of one for my MX5 NC. What may not be apparent is in winter a hardtop is like driving a different car, not just warmer but quieter and more refined. Only trouble is, its not something one would take on and off daily so once on you are kinda making a decision to be a fixed head coupe for a few months... and dropping the roof on those rare sunny days in mid winter is always such a treat . That said I can see I'd use it in the fall until all the trees above my car's parking spot have finished shedding leaves. I've had a couple of instances of leaf blocked roof drains - and this would kill that problem straight off.
I have a feeling someone opened that hardtop after it shipped. Hard to believe Mazda Japan wouldn't take great care shipping that beautiful top. Sad, but happy you got the top it's really nice.
Looking good! Really want one for my NC. Good to know that it seems like NC tops are harder to steal considering all the thefts that happen for NA/NB tops in The Bay.
Hey there! NC hardtops have 3 latches - 2 on the side, and 1 on the front, while NA / NB hardtops have 2 on the side, and 2 on the front. They both are equally easy to steal without security measures. You can deter theft with some security bolts, hard mounting the front side strikers.
Wow, I have a PRHT and I love it. That said, I always felt it was two small for the size of the car. This hardtop on your NC looks amazing. It transforms the car! I like it much more that the hardtops on the NA and NB. Thanks for posting!
i have a 2006 Copper Red Mica, the prht was NOT availible until 2007 so this is the best option for me.Id like to ask for a list and sources for EVERYTHING you needed for the install.thanks in advance,Love the channel love the content, keep it up.
Hi! The hardtop comes with the following (includes the parts you’re looking for): RH quarter trim 1 x NF28-68-520F-02 LH quarter trim 1 x NF28-68-550F-02 HOOK deck stud (Frankenstein bolts) 2 x RH/LH NF28-R1-38XB STRIKER RH 1 x NF28-R1-841C STRIKER LH 1 x NF28-R1-851C STRIKER SCREWS 4 x 9YAF-30-803A SHORT CORD 1 x NF7767SH0A PROTECTOR TAPE 1 x NFY856864
Hey there! No, the hardtop comes with everything you would need to install as-is on your Miata. Unless you're looking for security bolts / brackets like Tommy does in this video, those would be separate.
Hey guys , I have a question, are the frankensteinscrews and the screws for the striker panels for each side the same size of Torx screw?? and what size are they?
Hey there! Not sure what the actual size of the screws are, but both the Frankenstein screw in the rear and the striker panel screw uses the same bit. Hope that answers your question.
Sweet hard top, Tommy! Do you notice that the car is quieter now? Will you remove the soft top to save weight? I don't know where you live but do you plan to have the hard top for winter and the soft top for summer? That's what I would do (living in Switzerland). I have an NC FL in True Red. I think a black or silver hard top would look great. All the best, Rob in Switzerland
Hi Rob! Thank you for the comment! I definitely noticed the car is much quieter in terms of wind and road noise while I'm driving. About the soft top, I actually had to remove the whole assembly to make room for the Blackbird Fabworx GT3 roll bar. I had to also remove all of the plastic panels behind the seat so the rear is pretty gutted. The upside is there're more room for storage! You should check out our video for that! I'm actually living in the Bay Area in California so winter is not really an issue compared to where you live. I'd highly recommend getting a hardtop! Both black or silver hard top would look great on true red!
They’re actually just stock cloth seats, not covers. The logo that you see on the headrest is possibly vinyl, similar to the look and feel of decal material. When Tommy purchased the car, it came like that - so the story behind those seats are a mystery
@@kressiv I can see how it would help with wind noise. But my '06 has road noise coming from directly behind the seats in the top's storage area. The interior is actually quieter with the top down.
@@OOICU812 the first time I drove my soft top NC in the rain and night... oh it sounded like a tractor! Gear whine, engine and road noise, every little rattle or bump. A hard top would need a lining in the roof to stop echoes of all that stuff.
Hi, Question, was this purchased directly from the dealer? Having a hard time searching removeable tops opposed to the power retractable versions. Want this hard top for myself, but cannot find valuable resources online, any advice would be appreciated.
Another question for you- do you feel like it substantially reduces road noise? I’m considering a NC hardtop, and I’m hoping it’s a viable road noise solution.
@@jimkelly8332 still haven’t received it yet. ☹️ honestly I just blew the engine in my Miata so I’m tempted to get a refund and sell the car. I’m on the fence.

Does it sound alot more quieter then the soft top?

@@spec_eggdo you know if these parts apply to NC2 as well?
Do you gain or reduce head room? Thanks
Where did you get the top?
love it! makes me wanna get one for my nc!
hi, did the hardtop come with door seals by the windows?
Yes the hardtop comes with all the seals by the windows since it’s a OEM hardtop.
Wait, so you didn't take off the soft top?
You don't need to remove the softtop to fit the hardtop.
Update, at least here in Australia I was told by the dealer that they no longer produce the hardtop. Second hand market only 😢
Those OEM hardtops are like 7K now it looks like. And here I am trying to find one. haha.
Hey does anyone know what the part number is for the sidestrikers because I’m missing that on mine
hows visibility with the hard top compared to a soft top?
Way better visibility!
Thank you for the video. Are there any additional kits or parts to buy to install the hardtop that didn’t come with?

Hi! The hardtop brackets are from GarageStar
Did u remove the soft top at any point ? Or did u just directly add it over the soft top ?
