    I get not wanting someone to copy his design but if the designer wants to protect it he really needs to patent the design. If someone really wants to copy it, they are going to buy one and reverse engineer it so I really don't think being hush hush is going to accomplish anything other than penalize customers or future customers. It is a shame how people (or whole countries) get ahead by copying other people's work.

      Just buy a hard dog and add a couple plate gussets where the bars cross....very easy to do.

    Cool video! Definitely going to do this mod on my NC however I’m going to go with their RZ bar so I can still use the soft top. I’m glad blackbird is careful with their design, I’d feel much better about spending 1200 on a roll bar knowing that they put in the time and effort to make the best possible product for the NC.

    I recently purchased BBFW's RZ bar for my NC.... I think the "Please don't show the bar install" is more to do with the RZ bar as most of it is hidden and the only way to see the bottom of it is to buy one..... as for the GT3, there are pictures that Blackbird themselves posted of the GT3 bar in its full glory so I'm not sure how concerned they are with that design.
    I've talked to Moti on the phone a number of times, nice chap, like him quite a bit but this intellectual property thing seems to be to be easily debunked using simple logic as any of his competitors can easily just BUY one of his bars and boom, copy the design (which is 20x better way to do it than from photos or video). *shrugs*.
    And I would have bought one of his bars WAY earlier if I had been able to see it in its full view as opposed to paying like 3x $$ than Hard Dog based on Blackbird's reputation (which some of his responses on the Miata.net come across as VERY combative). The kind of combative that makes me not want to do business with someone.

      Hey there! Totally understand where you're coming from. When the seller forwarded the instructions to Tommy, it included a note with Moti's concern about showing details of the GT3 bar installation specifically. We want to respect his wishes unless he voices otherwise.

    Great video. I kind of get what Blackbird is saying, but couldn’t a competitor just purchase one themselves and see the “big secret” (so to speak) firsthand? Why be so secretive about it?

    Wish I knew the disclaimer stuff before I bought mine used. Didn't receive instructions and didn't know it won't fit NA miata without an NB soft top until I did more research into blackbirds bars. I understand their concerns but it's frustrating knowing that it restricts even the most useful general knowledge.

    How is visibility out of the rear window with this bar? Im considering getting the same bar in my NB and worried the X brace in the middle will block my view out of the back

    • @spec_egg
      @spec_egg  5 месяцев назад +1

      It’s not really an issue in the NC but I’m not sure how it’s going to be in the NB.

    I wonder how much the soft top/rails weigh and the stock roll hoop assembly. Guessing all that is a little heavier than the OEM hard top

    Great video ! Is that possible to mesure the difference between the top of the headrest versus the top of the bar... To kind of see the clearence of my helmet would be... Thanks

      @spec_egg  3 года назад +2

      Hey there! The difference between the top of the headrest to the top of the roll bar is 75mm.

      Wait does the GT3 roll bar work for the NC because when I look for a NC one I can’t find it. I can only find NB one

      @@andrewtabak4893 as far as I know the GT3 style roll bars are only for the NA and NB

    With the seat all the way back, is it possible for your head to touch the roll bar? Or is the roll bar set far back enough to avoid this (Thinking if you have a rear shunt). Thanks!

    • @spec_egg
      @spec_egg  3 года назад

      Hey there! There definitely is a possibility for your head to touch the rollbar if you have your seat pulled all the way back with it reclined back as well.

    • @donaldrowe6047
      @donaldrowe6047 2 года назад

      Of course there is!! If you use any aftermarket bar and stock reclining seats your head will hit the bar. Very dangerous to run a bar and stock seats, in a collision the back of your head will impact the bar causing injury. ALWAYS PAD YOUR BARS IF YOU ARE USING FACTORY SEATS!!

    Very helpful video - thank you :) I have the same hard top and am also about to install a larger than average ½ cage. I need a pair of those garage star brackets. Would you mind letting me know where you got them from, please? I'm having trouble finding them.

    • @spec_egg
      @spec_egg  Год назад +1

      Hi, unfortunately Garage Star is no longer in business so you'll have to source them 2nd hand

    Is it too loud inside with soft top removed?

    • @spec_egg
      @spec_egg  3 года назад

      Hey there! There’s definitely more tire noise / road noise than with the soft top on, but definitely manageable. You will hear the fuel pump with all the carpet gone, so something to keep in mind.
