WOW! Trena, as you know, this old rocker belonged to my great-grandmother. She loved that chair and used it daily for many decades. I'm sure that when it got loose and wobbly at times, one of her sons would do a little patch job just to keep it going. Of course, those little "repairs", while keeping the chair functional for my great-grandmother, did no justice to the chair and in the long run, contributed to its problems. Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job on this old beauty, which I estimate to be around 90-100 years old. My great-grandmother would have been thrilled with the end result. I'm sure she would have been deeply moved by the transformation. Your hard work, attention to detail and obvious love of old furniture, is greatly appreciated. I am proud to hand this now lovely beauty down as an heirloom piece to my daughter. Many thanks, Trena.
Hi there! So glad to see your comment. And Thankyou for trusting me with its restoration. It was a pleasure. Thanks for sharing its stories. I think the repairs were what they could do to keep it together and thank goodness they did. Can’t wait for you to see it in person. Cheers
Trena takes a chair repaired by a blacksmith, and restores it as an expert cabinetmaker. Top class , Trena as usual and thank you for a wonderful demonstration.
As a furniture repairman I often get requests for fixing wobbly chairs like this. Customers are always wanting an easy and cheap fix. Sorry. Not happening.
She amazes me when she brings out the hammer and tools to take furniture apart the creaks and cracks, yet the victim survives to be another beautiful piece of antique furniture. As usual.
Do not listen to any price complaints from the customer!! If they complain at all, show them this video. They could not find anybody else that would put all the work into it that you did. In addition, thank you for video recording your work for us adding to your repair labors!! You are truly amazing!! THANK YOU!!!
I saw a number of museum pieces that could use your talent and skills to restore them to their original glory. The rocker, while not my cup of tea, was beautifully restored.
That is a really nice chair. I thought Trena's face looked especially happy in the shopping scenes and that made my day (which I say in a fatherly way.)
The finger nails really popped on this episode. Loved the visit to the museum. It looked like you gave more shape to the top of the arms - they are great.
Really beautiful examples of mid-century Scandinavian modern furniture in that shop in Toronto. Rosewood! Teak! Simple, perfectly scaled elegant curves and straightforward designs. The real stuff. I cringe to think what those pieces must cost these days.
...And that short section of 18th century English furniture really gets one's blood racing. It would certainly pair nicely with that tall case clock and clock face restoration you did a couple of years ago.
Love the fact that at 4:54 you are using a hive tool as a pry-bar! Recently have seen a lot of woodworkers "discovering" hive tools and their uses- I carry a different model for pry/wedge operations at my shop as well! I have bees so the tools were around- and have found a useful place in my wood/metal shop!
Along with your usual restoration, seeing the furniture in the basement of the store and the museum, proves what I meant when I said you are a giant among your pears. It illustrates your passion for the work you do. There is no doubt in my mind the rocker you are doing in this video, will be better than it ever was.
The patience, vision of craftsmen of times past are hard to imagine! Some of those pieces had to take thousands? of man hours plus skills we don't have!! Keep honoring our history!! Thanx!!
The finished chair looks stunning. It should last another 100 years. Your work is just amazing, Trena. You take the time to redo it right. Your desire to make it better than it was really shows through. Thanks for sharing. I always look forward to your next project.
At first, I seriously thought your video was about repairing MY loose joints. I wasn't paying attention. I am 70 and just fell and sprained my hip and butt really bad. LOL. It's a beautiful chair. I have refinished a few pieces of old furniture, but nothing this nice. I saw one like it in a thrift store recently, but had to pass it up because of my hip and nowhere to put it. I took apart and refinished a small tall kitchen cabinet in which my Grandma kept her Fiesta Ware. My Mom passed away and I inherited the cabinet. She just let the door hang open in her kitchen but she had previously refinished some really beautiful antique furniture in her life. My son and his wife got the Fiesta Ware. I put a lot of my art supplies in the cabinet, which has Boone written on the top. I have old dishes elsewhere in my house, mostly in curio cabinets, one of which I put together and finished from a kit. Good job, girl!!!
Trena, you did a superb repair on all those little bits on the rocker and your final finish is,”to die for”! I would love that rocker in my home! Love all your videos which always keep me spellbound! 🤗🇦🇺
What a treat, shopping with Trena! It’s so good to see what you like and admire. Then the furniture museum…. Wow! A total delight. On top of a superb repair. Just love these vlogs.
WOW Trena, that chair looks magnificent, I bet it looks even better than the day it was made, thanks so much for the tour of the museum and the beautiful pieces therein, stay well and love to all the family, cheers!!!🥰😘👌👍👍🙏💕hi to shop dog also!🪛🔨🪑
I do think it would be more nice if you had your workshop in Denmark. I have some antiques needing repair and you are definitely the best furniture maker on RUclips!
This will probably be an odd comment, but you might see the relevance referring to 14:12. My best friend, my father, died in 2021. I was his caretaker for a few years before he passed. But, it was such a joy learning from him those last few years, great conversations. BUT, at 14:12 of this video, I gave a huge smile. Something so small yet so significant to me. My dad taught me that little trick, some 60 years ago. Funny, he taught me as a child and it continued my entire life. Thanks for allowing me to reminisce on this fine morning, and for bringing a few tears. I always love your videos.
Man, I used to go to Bungalow all the time! For those not in the know, they have vintage clothing on the main floor, along with some new items and some vintage housewares. Most of the furniture is downstairs, though they'll sometimes have a piece or two in the window. Guff is another store that specializes in MCM furniture pieces, though they're a bit out of the way on Queen St. East, just past the Don Valley Parkway. Well worth the trek if you're looking for some great furniture or house accessories like lamps, mirrors and artwork. Sometimes I miss living in Toronto, but then I go out onto my front porch and look at the Atlantic Ocean and realize I'm fine where I am. Thanks for sharing!
¡Roarrr!
This project is like where many cynics would easily utter, "Cor blimey you could've built [buy] a brand new one in the time [money] spent repairing that tired old thing!" and you most probably could. Then again, you can't put a price-tag on preserving a piece of history and old craftsmanship can you? So kudos to the owner. What a stunner of a precious beautiful piece, and whomever rocked herself away on that thing for decades on end in front of the fireplace certainly got her money's worth and a lot more. So well done once again Trena👏👏👏
Well young lady, you are pretty brave to be setting in that rocker on your opening, especially after you showed all the joint damage ( loose joints as you say). A most excellent restoration, as usual, I’m never disappointed in your finished product. Thank you for the old furniture tour, found it very interesting, appreciate the effort you put into your videos and projects.
It's astounding how much work went into the museum pieces of furniture. Craftsman and artisans were so respected and honored. From these pieces of spectacular furniture one can easily see what rich people spent their money on. The carving and design is exquisite. We are so lucky to have these pieces from history to learn from and appreciate. In a hundred or several hundred years from now I wonder what will be left from the rich of our time? I don't think stainless steel, glass and rock countertops will be as impressive.
I've been doing furniture repair for about 7 years in preparation of retirement which I finally did August.First of twenty twenty two.i wish I had seen your videos earlier,I would have probably done things differently. Beautiful Trena. Not my style but you really brought that piece back to life and can be enjoyed and treasured again. And to get the history of the chair is great! Thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed hearing the history of the chair as well. Thanks!
Love this girl, her work is on another level , anyone aspiring to be a furniture restorer should watch this channel religiously.
🥰
Trena takes a chair repaired by a blacksmith, and restores it as an expert cabinetmaker. Top class , Trena as usual and thank you for a wonderful demonstration.
Lol thankyou
I’m sorry, but this is not a repair, THIS is a total rebuild. Simply amazing !

As a furniture repairman I often get requests for fixing wobbly chairs like this. Customers are always wanting an easy and cheap fix. Sorry. Not happening.
Nice work. I wish my wobbly old joints could be repaired that easily. I'm getting old.

From let’s keep that in a back bedroom to let’s put this in the family room. Beautifully restored.

Thankyou! Just the color making the design stand out again
I find the dirty water down the drain shot strangely satisfying
It's hard to believe how dirty a rocking chair can get
Yea. It is
that chair came out great. I really enjoyed the museum trip, those carvings were incredible.
Glad you enjoyed it
Oh my gosh, that museum was loaded with gorgeous pieces. It is not my style but so pretty to see. To think of all the artists who made them.wow !!!
The effort you put in each project makes you a true artist.
Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure; and sharing your wonderful craft Trena. Beautiful!
You are so welcome
Mama got a facelift! lol. It’s gorgeous. You can’t even see the repair on the split rocker. Great job as always. I love the Sunday videos!
Thankyou!

Always good to see the products of craftspeople, either in a museum or in a workshop. Two for the price of one in this video.
🥰

They just sell them in the hardware store as pry bars but I’m sure they are the same tools😉
You young lady are a absolute genius!!! fantastic job on the chair, as always your work is second to none other!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
Thanks for taking us out w/ you. Very enjoyable time.👍🏼❤️
Glad you enjoyed
Trena, Beautiful job on this wonderful rocker. You consistently present exemplary work. Your father must be "over the moon" proud of his daughter!
Yes, thank you

My mother and I worked in apostery for 15 yrs. Loved it. This is a lost art ❤
I loved the museum. It's a very fine looking chair. As a kid, I was fascinated by peoples rocking chairs. I had to rock in it and judge.
Looks great. I realized how much I like furniture watching this video.
Glad you like it!
Dang, that chair looks comfortable, and sturdy. Excellent work, as I've come to anticipate.

Yes lol
Thank you for showing us your work. You are truly amazing,
You are so welcome
If you don't make mistakes, you are not doing anything. You recovered quite nicely from those minor flaws from "being human". Outstanding!!!!
Thankyou!!🥰
Ever hear a chair sigh with relief.❤😊

The flat head screws speak to how old these "repairs" are. Really nice work as always Trena!👍
Thanks!
Beautiful intro. Music and photography. And then you top it off with the workmanship repairing the chair.
Thank you very much!
Restored to her former glory. Beautiful piece. 😊
This rocker went from tired, old but loved to a museum piece. I always hold my breath when Trena comes out swinging that mallet!
Lol
Amazing work as always...thanks Trena!
Thank you!
💯💥✔ Trena , you continue to amaze me. I'm still in awe of the job you did on the grandfather clock. Amazing woman you are. Thank you for posting your videos.
I appreciate that
Only a human being? No, I don't think so. Your work is angelic! A beautiful restoration. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! 😊
Trena, dear, Andy here from Chile 🇨🇱 . Thank you so much for sharing those beautiful historic pieces on your visit to Ontario. How spectacular. I watched it twice!! And, as always, your art shines through your work ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!🥰🥰
Hey Trena, another banger! You never cease to deliver. Thank you for sharing! 🎉
Thank you so much 🤗
Back in the 80's we did lots of furniture repairs at the Park Slope Craftsman shop in Brooklyn N.Y.Robert Boily was the proprietor.Great job Trena.
Thankyou!
complex chair with a LOT of repairs. Very nice. You are so accomplished with those. PS.. I was excited to see that teak table at Bungalow. It is identical to the one I refinished last year (my mother's) that now is in my dining room. Funny how furniture can have so much meaning. Cheers.

Thanks!
Surely that's not the same chair! Excellent work as always. PS A long while back I lived in Orillia and used to love visiting Toronto. Go Leafs!
Very cool. I’ve been🥰
That repair/refinish job is beautiful! You say you aren't going to go too deep on the project and then reach a level of perfection that is admirable. *Trena! Leaving no surface unfinished!*
Thanks 👍
What an impressive job... so much going on in this project!
I've been a collector of mid century furniture for many years. I was surprised you like it too? I would never have guessed it. You'll have to show your house some day.
Yes I will
23:14 Haha..One can hear you remembered the accompanied emotion of work passed.
Love working with oak furniture. So forgiving when matching stain and color.
What an unusual chair! Beautifully done! As you were taking it apart I thought to myself that it would be a nightmare to put those spindles back in their proper location. I love watching how you do the repairs of missing pieces--it's an art!

That finish and the wood look amazing. Great job bringing this back to life.
Thanks 👍
The "Tiger Oak Rocking Chair " is very, very happy. It was like a day at the SPA! Thank you, Trenna 💖.

Love your background music Trena! 🎶🎶
So many random, poor repairs done to that chair! You really made her shine again.
Just got a couple of older Mersman side tables that need a little love and a nice old quartersawn (tiger) oak Morris chair. I'll need to undo some "repairs" that have been implemented over the years, and generally tighten everything up. Very comfortable, and kinda neat looking.
