Ip Man Wing Chun Against 10 Karate Black Belts

- A hard Wing Chun demonstration from the terrific movie Ip Man (2008) loosely based on the life of Grandmaster Yip Man, the well-known master of Wing Chun (or Wing Tsun/Ving Tsun) fighting style and the teacher of Bruce Lee.

This man legit unleashed a whole 100 punch combo and none of his homies stepped in
Tbf Ip Man would probably just use faster techniques if multiple attacked him at once (like that first guy whose neck was stomped on). They were probably scared and just playing for time while they didn't attack him.

The dark lighting, sad music, and sound of crunching bones really distinguishes this scene from any other martial arts clip I've ever seen. Normally, scenes where the hero beats up a gang of less-skilled opponents are fun with exciting music and flamboyant/goofy choreography, this is just brutal. The somber music of the strings and the dreary lighting establishes the grieving tone, which is an immediate change of pace. In most movies, the enemies are cannon fodder and get KO'd after being slapped once, but in this scene we get to see Ip Man pick each of the ten black belts apart with chilling detail. This is particularly disturbing, it's unusual to see Heroes do explicitly permanent damage to bad guys, but here he's breaking legs and snapping necks. The sound effects are really uncomfortable and force the audience to confront the horror of what he's doing, which contrasts with the typical slap-stick comic book style sound effects (wham, pow, smack). All in all, this is a really impactful and unforgettable scene which stands out from the rest

Ip Man in his absolute prime here. I’m sure this is the only time in all 3 films where he lets loose and uses Wing Chun for violent purposes. He just dispatches 10 black belts with ease when he’s going for blood. In the next few films he doesn’t have that anger and goes back to less harmful practices.
L M Damn right, it is getting kinda cruel here. Definitely walk out if anyone see this happening

I like how donnie yen is silent when he whoops ass. He doesn't make weird grunts. He just whoops ass.
I think part of it is they're going for speed, not strength.
the power of wing chun comes from a different source and requires exacting focus which a bunch of grunting or yelling would interrupt.
Oh yes of course. Same physics principle as super fast racey stripes on a car.
@@RevoZep not exactly, wing chun employs chained inertia; many small movements added together to output high kenetic energy, whereas yelling manifests power through muscle tension.

The Setting:
It is during the Japanese occupation of China, and the Chinese people are all living in poverty and starving. The Japanese host a challenge: come and fight, you will receive a bag of rice for every fighter you defeat. Ip Man heard about the challenge but chose not to go. A good friend of Ip Man's however, who was also a master martial artist, is fighting there repeatedly to keep his family from starving. One day Ip Man's friend asks to fight 3 black belts at once, as he could get 3 times the reward. Ip Man's friend loses however, and one of the Japanese officials goes against the rules and shoots him for losing. Ip Man just so happened to be watching when this happened, and in his anger steps into the ring and asks to fight 10 at once.

Love how this scene shows Ip Man's true ability. In every fight in the movie before this he was just toying with them. Here he lets his true raw power show.
He wasn't toying with them more like he wasnt going full hardcore on them.
@@LordChronk True I should have clarified that lol
*a fraction of his real power.
And every movie after this one was the same. He's always held back and opted for less harmful options when dispatching his opponents .
You can feel the intense rage and emotion through his eyes and the way he clenches his fist
I love that up to this point, Ip was holding back, he would disarm, stun or play with his opponent to let him stop or try to reason with them to stop or they will get hurt. Here there was none of that, he was out for blood for what they did to his friend. You can push him around and try to humiliate him, but once you try to threaten or hurt his friends or family youre good as dead.

Normally ip man will go easy on his opponents because it's just a spar and demonstration of styles. But here he's consumed by rage and decides to show everyone just how lethal he can be.
I love how after all that the other dudes were like “guys.... GUYS.... We can do this 😏”
Yeah, I'd pretty much prefer getting SHOT then be subjected to whatever the shit hell that was. And to think Ip did that to prove a point for his friend who got shot before this scene.

After physical bullying I became very angry, for the next 3 years of my life I kept fighting against myself in my head that I was eating shit during every meal. While eating tomato or chilli sauce I fought against myself in my head that I was eating menstrual period blood. During EVERY single second of those 3 years I also kept fighting against myself in my head that the bullies were sodomizing me and my family members. As a result I severely couldn't concentrate during exams and classes.
I am still having self esteem issues 14 years on from the incident.
I went to army and didn't do some admin work due to fighting myself in my head and army people thought I was lazy and thus bullied me as well.
This is why I have zero sympathies and zero tolerance for bullies. I am 32 years old and don't even have a first girlfriend, partly sabotaged due to bullying. I have also missed out on $260,000++ of opportunity cost in earnings from jobs. I went to teach the bullies a lesson by cyberbullying/harassing them online, the bullies were so "strong" until they went to call the police LOL, but like I mentioned above, I have zero regrets.
This was the most excited I've ever been watching a martial arts movie (sorry Bruce). I love how the film is marked by three stages of people watching Ip Man fight. The guy is trying to watch through the windows at the beginning, then this, and then the final fight in front of a full audience at the end. Everyone is trying to see Ip Man fight for real!

真壁六郎太 Ah that first move was iaijitsu? Yeah i think if that was the case samurai would surely win. But lets say Kami no kaze didn't destroy Mongol Fleet and they landed in japan islands. In that case i have 2 speculation. If Mongols and Japanese Samurai clashed in open are then without doubt Mongol will win. They were masterful in ranged fights but if there was no open area to be found then i think Japanese would have upper hand. But still Mongols could have done some serious fights too.

No use comparing any martial arts. because in the end its the user behind the art that makes it important. its not the style, its you..(ip man).

hope you don't consider this to be a realistic fight scene. it's fun and great but far from realistic. When I say realistic, I mean realistic in the realm of hollywood. No wirework, cgi or any of that bullshit. Of course one person can't take on 10 guys, or at least not in the way it's showcased here. It's dishonorable yes, Asian martial arts is a lot about that

This is easily one of my favourite films. this fight is my favourite scene of the film. What makes it so great, and if you pay close enough attention is that Ip Man doesn’t. Get. Hit. *Once*
This because of his anger with the culmination of a few things such as: learning about Lin’s death, watching Master Liu, one of his close friends get gunned down and he, his people and family suffering at the hands of the Japanese. He isn’t fighting for the sake of fighting he’s doing it out of vengeance and for his people, he can finally release all of that pent up rage.
Another important thing to remember about Ip Man is he fights his opponents and at the same time educates them, but here, if you watch the whole film, you know that he’s not here to educate these guys. He’s here to destroy them. And he did just that. I mean this fight is considered to be the best fight scene of the franchise and rightfully so. It just sends chills down my spine every time I watch it
