I love that Garlic os is so good that ambernic made the fan software the official
Absolutely. It's nice to see the developers that work so hard on these custom OS's get some recognition.
Best vid I've seen explaining this. Same thing for the garlic os install tutorial.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the compliment! Really appreciate it :)
Thank you so much! This really helped a lot! I just got my rg35xx recently.
Right on! Glad to hear that and happy gaming :)
perfect tutorial sir, might be the best on YT
Thanks. Wanted to get an idea of GarlicOS' customizability before I net myself an RG35XX Plus sometime down the line.
I'm a major geek when it comes to customizable gaming hardware, so even though I don't even own the system yet I'm already putting together quick notes for how to do everything and your video is a nice quick preview on what to do. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and glad you found the video helpful!
If you're looking to get the plus model, keep in mind that it won't run this current version of GarlicOS. So unfortunately these customization tricks will be obsolete. The good news is that Black-Seraph, who is the developer of GarlicOS, is currently working on GarlicOS 2.0 and it will have a number of better features. I hope to start doing videos on it as soon as it's ready for primetime.
Best video I've found! Thanks so much!
You bet! And thanks so much for leaving a comment, it's greatly appreciated!
I'm actually doing this for my brother as he got one recently and wanted the RG35XX to be updated from stock OS. I'm looking forward to getting it all sorted for him. Great video
Thanks for the comment! I hope all goes well :)
@@otggaming3180 After a few mistakes, I finally got the Boot Menu, Theme & Icons all set up. Just putting more PS roms onto it now. Thanks again
@@Markovanbaston Right on! Glad to hear it. I'm sure your brother is gonna love it :)
Awesome tutorial. Thanks for your help.
perfect tutorial. Thank you
great video!
Thanks for the comment :)
Glad I could help! I am currently working on a video for Skraper and will have it up soon :)
this video was posted on the same day as my birthday lol
I've been wanting to try one of these for one of my daughters
but I have also tricked out New 3DS XL's for each of them so this seems overkill
I still want one
Nice job
Thanks for leaving a comment! The 3DS XL is a solid handheld. The 35XX is really nice for how portable it is though and GarlicOS has a great sleep function. It's super nice to have in a coat pocket ready to play for a few minutes when out and about.
Great tutorial! Thank you for your videos. New sub from me.
I really appreciate that. Thanks so much for the sub and the positive feedback!
I recently got the device for 35€, which is around $40. Very nice device.
Great deal! Happy gaming :)
Me ajudou a mudar meu tema :) valeu
You're welcome :)
i do have a question a coppyed the boot logo exactly has you did and did the same stuf you did but insteade of the boot logo i chsen appear a white square logo saying "donx software engeneering " or something like that do you have any idea what could be?
there an app that allows you to change themes
how does it work with animated logos?
Does anyone know how to randomise the boot logos? My RG35XX came preinstalled with Garlic and every time I booted up it had a different boot logo. When I've swapped out the SD to a dual set up with better quality SD's I can only change it to a single boot logo.
i managed to do everything except change the batter colour from green to blue, can someone tell me where to add the files?
are we ignoring the imgs folder and misc ?, or has the way theme's get applied changed and now need these folders too ?
Hello 👋I put a custom menu screen saver But when I start the games or retrparch The screen starts flashing and games crash What to do?
can you make a video on how to update garlic os to new verion ?
i dont seem to find how to do it.
I will put it on my list of upcoming video ideas. Thanks!
Mine won’t load games or retro just freezes
So I changed out the boot logo, and it only shows the custom logo on the first initial boot. If I reboot, the system shuffles through about 6 different logos that my specific unit shipped with, and I can't figure out how to stop it from doing that. Any ideas?
Not sure on that one. Do you have one of the newer versions that ships with the Stock Firmware / GarlicOS dual boot SD cards?
@@otggaming3180 yeah, it comes on one SD card with the stock OS and the latest version of garlic, both installed. I tried finding the folder where the images for those boot logos would be stored and just delete them, but I haven't found them yet.
@@TalentfourDisruption Sorry I can't be more help, I haven't had a chance to to download and tinker with the dual boot setup just yet. Hopefully soon...
Hello.. good day..
How about for boot animation? Its different right sir? I cant change my boot animation but I have already downloaded the files but i cant understand the readme file.. thanks
Greetings Friend, I haven't looked into doing boot animations yet. But you may have just inspired me for an upcoming video.
Need help my theme selection missing i cant find on apps. Can you help me how to get back that selection. Thanks
I've always just switched my themes manually and have never used the theme switcher app, so I'm afraid I can't be much help. There is some info over on the RG35XX subreddit that might get you moving in the right direction though: www.reddit.com/r/RG35XX/comments/131r79o/theme_switcher_v2/
hi, i know im late to this, but when i go to change my boot logo, the existing files are zip folders not gz files like i see for you. Does this matter or what should I do next?
A gz is a form of zip file so you should be okay. Do the existing ones have a .gz extension or are they .zip?
@@otggaming3180think it just depends on what program you use. I use winrar so zip files and .gz files etc. (theyre gnu zip files made with linux) just show up as winrar icons. If you have 7zip they'll show as 7zip files and if you have nothing I assume windows just shows them as regular zip files.
Should be no issue though (unless you need winrar or 7zip or something to unzip them)
dunno if it helps but i followed this video, was the same for me files were zip format just replaced the stock garlic os boot logo zip with the one i wanted in zip format worked fine, just trying to figure out the themes now, as the themes i have downloaded have extra folders to this tutorial just confused to if i add the extra folders as i followed what the videos says and i lost all theme just the boot logo and a blank screen when loaded in
I can't seem to find the boot logo. I'm using a 2 SD card setup. Would it be on SD card 2? It doesn't appear to be on SD card 1 anywhere
It's on SD card 1. Are you able to see the partition that has the "modules" folder and various system files? If you're on Windows, sometimes it won't assign a drive letter to the partition so you have to do it manually through Windows Disk Management
@@otggaming3180 Yeah, I'm looking through it now. I'm on GarlicOS 1.4.7, so it may be that the files have been re-organized after an update. There is no "modules" or "misc" folder. Regardless, either from searching the entire file locations for a "boot_logo" file or from manually going through each folder, the boot logo just isn't visible--and that's with "show hidden files" on.
@@chonstonjr There should be two partitions on the GarlicOS card with system files and folders on them. It sounds like you're able to see the partition that has the BIOS, CFW, and ROMS folders on it. However, the boot logo isn't stored on that partition.
You want the partition that I show at 1:30 of the video, it only has the "modules" folder and a number of system files, one of those files being the boot logo. If you can't find it from file explorer, likely Windows hasn't assigned it a drive letter. If you try to assign a drive letter and it still doesn't show up, I'm thinking maybe a fresh install of GarlicOS might be in order.
@@otggaming3180 That did it! I wasn't looking for the partition like I should have. My fault for skipping through the video lol. Thanks for your help!
@@chonstonjr Haha... no worries. I've been guilty of that many times myself. Glad to help :)
Can we make our own boot logo with gimp? Or only preview this gimp app? We can make our own boot logo or no?
Yes, you can. The boot logo is just a bitmap file contained within a gzip (gz) file. So to make your own logo, take any graphic you have and convert it into a .bmp file. Also make sure it is 640x480 to match the resolution of the RG35XX.
Then rename the file to 'boot_logo.bmp' and add it to a gzip archive using a free tool like 7-zip. The resulting file should be 'boot_logo.bmp.gz' Replace the original with this one and you should be good.
dude where is the cfw folder everyone speaks of i cant find it
You need to flash GarlicOS first
That website's download links are asking for password now. I don't understand
I'm not sure why. I just tried a random download and it worked okay. Maybe it was a temporary issue?
@@otggaming3180 For those wh has same problem. It was probably about anti adblock thing Mega has. I turned off the adblock (opera gx) but it didn't worked asked for password aswell. I tried using Edge (has no installed extensions) it worked.
what site?
For the themes and icons? That would be www.rg35xx.com/en/
also im on the stock os
Only on garlic I think
mine does not load😡
Are you still seeing the old theme? Or is nothing loading at all?
@@otggaming3180 no my website want load and i realy want the game boy color boot animation
didnt work
Which part is not working?
@@otggaming3180 when i turn on console is just small random picture
@@Zxmii_ That picture is what pops up when GarlicOS can't find a boot logo. I would double check that the "boot_logo.bmp.gz" is in the root of the misc partition and that it didn't get renamed or corrupted.
I don’t have a cfw folder in my roms. It’s out of it. Do I move that cfw folder into my roms partition?
No. Keep the CFW folder outside of your ROMs folder where it currently is. If you move the CFW folder it will break GarlicOS.
It can be a bit confusing because GarlicOS uses a ROMs partition and on that same partition there is also a ROMs folder. The CFW folder is also on the ROMs partition, but it is separate from the ROM's folder... hope that makes sense :)
