Aussie announcing: "There's a fire!"
Appropriate Aussie response: "Put it out ya lazy c**t"
Someone should have said that to their prime minister. Oh well...
T.M. Shannon:you've met Australians i see😁
“A Bonfire mate?”
‘Pour fucking fuel on it’
That’s actually pretty accurate.
"This is a fun conversation Steven!" hahhahaha Top bloke
Exactly!
he said "CHAT" which sounds funnier than 'conversation'
When you are the 911th like. Boom boom. O_O
It’s hard being a comedian guest in Colbert.
Too bad Jim is a liar.

"This is a fun chat, Stephen." 🤣
Glad he pointed out how awkward Colbert is at interviewing people he doesn't know well.
This is EXACTLY Jim's style. Awkward laughs and silence is part of his schtick. He loves making the audience laugh uncomfortably. Stephen was perfect lol
Or he doesn’t appreciate. I don’t think he likes Jim’s usual style. Sometimes I suspect he knows his church friends are watching. Sometimes he just shows a browbeating attitude.
Good thing that's not his actual job otherwise there'd be a problem, I guess.
He lives in New York (!) and he always sounds so provincial/parochial whenever he meets/talks to someone from another country/culture...
@@skoll_5682 he is just like any other American TV show host. They cannot stand the fact that they are not the funniest person in the room, but they have to do their job. Almost every comedian that goes to a TV show gets treated like this. These host think people watch for them, in stead of watchingn for the guest.
speaking as an Australian the phrase "she'll be right" is the most australian saying ever
Cameron Long Yep still being said
We're not here to fuck spiders.
Yeah nah
Despite the fact they also use this term in England and NZ... unsure of how Australian this term is...
@@vassagoenterprises3437 Americans and Australians understand each other very well!
Talking about cunts, putin better start looking for a safe haven after November 2020!
Maybe it's a lost-in-translation thing but as an Aussie, this is a standard chat.
yeah pretty much. This is Friday night at the local Bowls club ;)

DaveyGa Australians don’t really drink Fosters. Same deal as the shrimp thing.

Steven Grotte don't worry I'm sure there missiles are highly un accurate
Inaccurate?
Well, may the odds be ever in your favor.
Steven Grotte LOL. That's hilarious! (I'm serious) You should get up here with Colbert so he can make it awkward with you too ;) (not so much)
Anyone else wish this exact interview was with conan? He'd probably say something funny in return, instead of not laughing and sitting in silence...
you read my thoughts
very true. this guy is boring AF
To be fair, Jefferies isn't funny.
Someone has to be the straight man
Conan could interview any Aussie and it would just as funny if not more. Jim is just talking like we do..
Jim can be quite offensive at times - I like that
Australians say what they want to say, no bullshit.
Nick Heskes as a fellow Kiwi who banters with aussies a lot, i can confirm your statement
For time to time, people should listen to something against their mindset. We take ourselves too seriously these days....

"You're already a miner, just dig for something else" 😂😂😂
It was funny, but doesn't he know that you can't just look for something different in your same area. It's not like there's all the things you mine in any one location. Without coal, miners would either stay and rot in those communities or get out. And then maybe they could find another type of mining job, but I don't know how many other types of mining jobs there are. And yes I know my comment is very annoying because it was a joke.
@@Cancellator5000
Oh, well, sometimes people need to move to where the resources are. Was a pretty common thing in times before Walmart...
I don't think Colbert was expecting that. 😂
Just another moronic show host that thinks he's the star...
haha that was genius and funny, yeah these host think every thing they do is funny, yet the guest in this instance killed it..
idiot. it's the government's duty to defend the liberty of the individual yes. That is not the same as an individual defending themself against someone or something (including a government) that intends to do them harm.
Your argument is moot
Marty g'day mate! Love the comment, just curious what planet you live on?
100%
There are still parts of the US that don’t get us Aussies.
I’m in stitches of laughter every time Jim opens his mouth.
🤣👍
I like him but think Colbert is occasionally just awkward and an asshole sometimes, and gives the guest no love. the audience gets it.
+1
Canada has Newfies so we're used to you.
i like both of them. but Stephen is way too vanilla to hande Jims sense of humor.
Ikr
So is CBS. That's why the interview seemed cut short.
All Crème and no Brûlée 😁
.... What's way too vanilla mean? Lolol. Sorry. 😂
@@caity9244 means plain, boring.
"NO WE EAT PRAWNS" someone had to say it, and Jim Jeffries is now an Aussie hero
Prawns and shrimp are different.. That's something aussie's or americans will never understand

Chris Gee exactly AND WE DON’T EAT SHRIMP WE EAT PRAWNS!! And we don’t throw Em’ on the barbie we boil them and chill them and eat them fucken cold mate.
No longer.
It's PRAWNS here in South Africa!
I finally get it! Stephen really cant tolerate anyone who is funnier than him. I thought he was just having a bad day, when he was totally off with Bill Burr, but with Jefferies it was the same thing. He will never laugh at a joke, never build upon it, he will just read from his script till he can safely call the interview over. AWKWARD.
Conan was on his show and I see what you mean. It was a weird power struggle
not Fallon
That spelling is awckward
okguard
T Castro hate to break it to you but stephen is far funnier than each of them.
"If North Korea bombs Reno, then you'll be responsible" Dead.
Reno would be, too.
@Donna Campbell you moron evan ws quoting the joke and saying he thought it was hillairous no one thinks if north korea bombs reno jim jefferies is at fault except for comedy centrals lawyers
Stephen left him hanging there after the 'that's what people in Reno are doing anyway' joke. Come on Stephen - you have to learn how to deal with the quirky guests a bit better.
It's possible that Colbert thought this guy is a complete toss bag.
Jeremy Frances it’s possible that Colbert took a job as an interviewer of guests and then turned out this disaster. It’s not as though Jim isn’t talkative or bubbly either.
Can’t work with the guest, don’t have the guest. Stephen Colbert is in no way funny and has no interviewing skills. He’s so stiff, a bad interviewer. Can’t get over when he says we haven’t had goldminers since.... um idiot, do you know what Australia produces?
@@arconeagain I’m pretty sure the television network told Jim what he could and what he couldn’t say. He didn’t swear once during this interview. They would of read his material before he appeared. The issue lies with the Host being a boring douche bag and can only relate to rich PG rated celebrities. If it was Jennifer Anniston taking about her nail clippings, he’d be engrossed in the conversation.
@@kristyletch6841 sorry, I don't see how your response is relevant to my comment.
Colbert is a terrible interviewer. Jim was giving him gold and Steve gave him nothing in return
Do we have any examples of yours that we could see to give us an idea of how to do it right?
Gold? Like the mining towns? 😂 Ok I’ll see myself out...
Hes way sharper and quicker whenever hes in character mode, he’s often been kind of stiff and tentative just being himself lol
Graham Norton Show? Mock the Week? Would I lie to you? Top Gear (Jezza version)? Can't give any US examples I'm afraid.
The bill burr interview was also hard to watch.
The joke about people dying a slow death in Reno was hilarious and Stephen barely reacted. Bad interview
He has a very "different" taste, in terms of humor, so I'm not surprised.
Personally, still thought the joke itself was really funny.
idk man, Kevin Hart is pretty damn funny imo. Also Gabriel Iglesias.
notformebeaky He's a terrible host? So why are you watching this?
notformebeaky i see your point, but ck is funny, just like Conan on remotes or Colbert drunk... The whole crowd thing is fair, but you will find that everywhere... Gervais and our Australian up here are awesome, but your "hate" towards the Americans might not be to objective? Again ck is probably the funniest guy at the moment in the states, might not be your cup of tea yet great fun for the rest of us
Stephan either pretended not to get Jims humor or really didn't get his humor. Whatever it was, the interview sure sounded like slow death. Awkwardaaawww!
Wow, I usually like Colbert a lot, this was his shittiest interview i've seen. Jefferies manages well.
Jean-Michel Hb You obviously didn't see the Bill Burr interview.
Jean-Michel Hb welcome dude
Yeaa Colbert seems sad or thinking about something else in this interview it's like Jim is just talking to himself.
JM B the one with Bill Burr was worst
Imo, Colbert is actually a super serious, uptight guy. You cant take him for a ride. The style of the Colbert Show REALLY hid this weakness. He put on the show, he interacted almost exclusively with people that weren't comedians. He was always in control. When hes with another comedian that can take over the conversation, it's pretty much a wrap for him.
Jesus what was wrong with Stephen in this interview? That guest did a nice job at trying to keep the interview alive but Stephen sure did everything he could to make it awkward
Viper What was akward about it? Stephen seemed to find him funny
That's where Jon Stewart shined. He could always play off his guests whether they were politicians he absolutely slammed and disagreed with, or comedians of every sort.
It really was a strange interview... it was just a bit off the whole time through
i agree
You guys are fuckin' crazy.
Interesting to see who Stephen vibes with and who he doesn't. I can't find a pattern. Clearly not with Jim Jefferies.
I like Stephen but I hate most guests you say he bonds with, especially when they go on and on and on about catholicism or something else conservative. It's funnier when he gets shocked by guests.
maybe bc there rival shows idk?
He found Jim crude, which he is. I am sure he would be just as disengaged with any comedian like that. What was interesting was the audience sounded like they were really into him.
I think he does best with celebrities who are talkative but serious, or at least who are not particularly comical. With them, he can maintain a good conversation and crack a joke every now and then to keep the mood light and people giggling.
With comedians he seems to get stuck, as if he expects them to just carry the interview and essentially do a five minutes stand-up bit while he just looks on.
He didn't have much chemistry with Ricky Gervais either- and both are pretty funny.
Hahaha Jefferies on point as usual. I've got to say, the funniest joke was when Steven reacted awkwardly to one of his jokes and in the ensuing awkward clunky moment, Jefferies goes 'fun chat Steven' HAHAHA That was a stitch up
yeah not sure if Colbert was trying to make a dick outta Jim but Jim got him a beauty.
"This is a fun chat, Stephen."
Why is Colbert so awkward in this? He barely jokes back. If this is with Craig Ferguson, this would be such an awesome interview.
Oh man, I miss Craig :(
UltraBran me too. I sometimes rewatch his show. Still makes me laugh every time
Hard to compete with Jim =p
I think naturally he's a socially akward person so sometimes he doesn't know what to say if that makes sense so he tries to laugh?
Honestly, I think he's concerned Jim's about to go overly bleak and blue for a light entertainment show. Notice that Jim's not awkward at all and also not thrown by Steven's attitude. He knows he's a baaad widdle boy but he behaves himself, more or less.
Dammit Stephen. First Burr and now Jeffries? Why was this unnecessarily awkward
Yet Jim interviewed Bill on Tuesday night and the two of them were great
Yup. He definitely doesn't mesh well with certain types of comics
If you think that was awkward, check out his interview with Christoph Waltz. I consider this the most awkward ten minutes of Colbert. Did I say awkward? Awkward.
Maybe he's bad with people who are funnier than him? Just a theory
Colbert with Waltz was a pretty great interview, don't compare it to when Colbert is awkward around darker comedians. Waltz is just quieter.
"Really..."
"Yeah..."
"Oh wow"
"Yeah, yeah!"
"So uhh, jim jeffries"
"WELL, UUUAGRUEHGH"
10/10 interviewer
Huh? 1 of 10
Captain Zouave its called sarcasm champ pretty easy to pick up on in this instance
Stephen Colbert is an entertainer, Jim Jefferies is a Comedian.
Stephen Colbert is not an entertainer, he is a presenter. He presents those who entertain.
Craig Ferguson on the other hand was both a presenter and a very funny entertainer.
God damn this interview is a disaster!! Jim Jefferies deserves better! #JusticeForJim !!
Matt Davis fuck off you American lol
Matt Davis lol I don't mind him
Matt Davis also Australia is a smarter country than America especially with gun laws 😃
Matt Davis can't answer that Australia is fucked also Least we don't have a fat president that will have a heart attack soon
Bernie would have been so much better though. It's amazing how you Americans always get stuck on that socialist part. Democratic socialism is a thing and it's very popular. Most civilized countries have a whiff of it and they like it. Free healthcare in Canada is a form of socialism. Nothing bad with that. Most Nordic countries operate with forms of socialism the same way. We collectively pay taxes and we get shit like roads... among other things. Bernie was also the only candidate who actually looked like a real human being... plus the things that came out of his mouth actually made sense. Trump is still a fucking disaster. A dangerous choice cause he's an asshole, drunk on power and himself and lacks any sort of intelligent thought. Plus, other countries think you're all retarded now. How many million people are living in America again? This is your best? LMAO!
This is so exciting to see Jim getting more mainstream recognition like this. Hope it goes further and we get lots more of him
Anyone else notice that Colbert gets really uneasy when his guest is a fellow comedian?
and Jim is super funny. Stephen has a dry sense of humor anyhow, he could never keep up.
Especially one that’s funnier than him
@@DonovanWert .... bascially, everyone!

There are 3 Australian accents, broad, general and cultivated. Jim has a broad accent, but most people speak with a general accent, so accusing other people of bunging on side is silly, Jim is in the minority.
@@rivertam7827 I don't think it is so much about accent, rather the fact Jim doesn't water down his jokes for the US which is a more PC environment...
Stephen it's OK to laugh at a rude joke once in a while. Don't worry about the PC police. You used to provoke them all the time. Come on!
Bad Man Skill Didn't Colbert just recently get in trouble for saying Trump's mouth is Putin's cock-holster? Stephen will go there,... if he's the one driving.
I know man, like WTF...
Bad Man Skill it's called selling out. The two comedic news anchors (John stewart) & (Colbert) get promoted/retire to do WWE right around the exact same time the country needed to band up and make a decision on who should be president.
This is my take as well. It seems like ever since he switched shows he's been afraid to laugh or have fun because, as I'm keenly aware from having experienced it myself, certain liberal bubbles like to crucify those for even reacting in a unapproved manner to non-strictly pc joke or comment. That, to me, is how comedy dies. I reckon that the only ones that benefit from it are cunts.
Or maybe I'm giving Colbert too much credit and he really has bought the Uber-left's (distinct from the left I consider myself to be) pc bullshit.

As an American, (People's Republic of South Berkeley) I have little in common with Stephen, but would love to hang with Jim.
Colbert tries too hard to outdo his guest... don't get it wrong, I am a Colbert fan. But he should try to make the guests look good, not bad. Colbert gets nervous when the guest is funnier than him, and that's not cool.
he doesnt really try to outdo him. he barely said a word. 2 little jokes and the rest are introductions to jim's jokes.
x Yep, I don't get what people see here. Imagining maybe. Now the Bill Burr interview, that was really awfull. But I really liked this interview. My only complain is that it could be longer. I love Jim Jeffriese.
It's in his mannerisms and tone, not the words necessarily. You probably wouldn't know subtlety if it bit you in the asscheek.
He was the same with Bill Burr. He was also so terrified that both Bill and Jim would get so crude that they couldn't use the interview. They're professionals. They know they're on CBS. They aren't going to randomly start dropping f bombs for no reason.
Yeah, he also gave McEnroe an incredibly hard time in the wake of the (fair and accurate) stuff John said about Serena, so that he could keep the crowd on his side.
That voice thing is SO true! I used to teach defibrillator courses, everyone in Oz whinged about the American accent on the machine, to the point that the developers added an Aussie accent option - then everyone refused to use it because "it doesn't sound authoritative enough" smh
as a single female, I need to get my ass to Australia's mining towns
Could you handle 9 men at a time ?
As an Australian I can sincerely say I really enjoyed that chat :)
Jim's spot on about Aussie Mining Towns. I remember spending a week in Charters Towers when I was 18. Me and a mate nearly got bashed by half the pub because the two local girls came over to us and started talking/drinking with us and ignoring the local ferals. When the girls went to the toilet (in pairs as usual) a large gent came over and apprised us of the situation ... and that's when I noticed 20 odd pairs of eyes glaring at us ... we did the honourable thing and got the hell out of there - they weren't that good looking nor was I that drunk yet!
LOL Gold!
and people think Priscilla was just satire. Girl can make a lotta money in a mining town...
Yeah I knew someone who worked Pajingo gold mine and FIFO'd in Charters, and the stories were all similar to yours. Makes me scared to go there.

Wilbur W. I wonder if the show itself is adding stress to his life that's causing a character change. It's not uncommon to become so big and busy you aren't enjoying what you do anymore.
Fernando Herrera Nah, Steven has always been good with reading from a script, but hasn't been the best at being funny off the top of his head. He's never been a very good on the spot interviewer, even on his old show (although it was still funnier with his old character). I don't think he was ever cut out for this late night host gig in the first place.
He's just not funny, that's the fundamental problem. Sure he can read other funny people's words well, but when it comes down to applying your own brain creatively and quickly to exhibit wit, he's a 0/10.
Bloody RUclips Naming Nonsense if you have seen is interviews off set when he had the Colbert report it even when he was with the daily show you'd know that's not true at all. He is very quick and quite funny. His interview with bill o'Reilly on Fox News was great.
Nah cummon dude. I'm an Aussie and Colbert hasn't lost it. Far from it. He just wasn't of a mind to get stuck into it. Perhaps if their paths cross again he'll roll up his sleeves ... Jefferies is a lot edgier and it's his first time (I think?) on the late show. Don't forget this is a little sub culture and the US is more class-based than Australia. Colbert would be unlikely to fully engage some new dude - he'd have to do his time. I just found the contrast in their accents amazing ... Jefferies on his own sounds normal to me. Geez.
You Americans have no clue how to counter our Aussie sense of humour lol. Half of the jokes Jim just made went right over his head lol

Hiya averre mackay: That's because the scour America for the dumbest
people to take over these late night shows that will tow the leftist
party line to help deepen the indoctrination of the clapping seals in

his characterizations of we Yanks and our guns but that is a long,
drawn out topic that I get tired of talking about. Nutshell version is
that he is wrong.
+Anon54387 Hi, no he's not wrong entirely, he's expressing an opinion that I too share as do the majority of the sane world. We don't understand your unnecessary gun culture, lack of recognition and accountability for the ridiculous carry on for the need for weapons. We don't understand how this second amendment can be so misinterpreted and misconstrued to fit a purpose it was never meant for. It's time for it to stop, we did it you can too!, although it means needing to put a halt to the greed and corruption of the US Congress!. Gun control was not a left or right issue for us, it was and is a human issue!, a safety issue. we lost children at port Arthur and to us that's not acceptable to allow it to continue!.
And "I like guns, fuck off" is a perfectly good argument and all we should need. We're America. We like guns. Fuck off.
Colbert had no idea what was going on during this interview.
"in my late 20s, so 23"

You get the feeling Stephen's a bit worried that Jim can't be entirely contained... Fortunately for Stephen, Jim contained himself. I've no doubt that Stephen's not a huge fan of Jim. Colbert's demeanor changes a great deal for people he honestly likes. He's not a good liar (which is one reason why we like him) but that makes for awkward situations like this for sure.
That was very awkward. Jim was having the time of his life and then Stephen is like yes. As an Aussie not laughing at that would be a sin

James Wilcock I gotta get my ass to Australia!
Dan Edwards I thought I was - gently - being cheeky...but you need to leave this poor dude alone. Seriously. Cause you are now THAT part of the internet and not in a good way. I have two words for you: Therapy. :(
+Alice Hughes ??? leave who alone? I haven't attacked anyone... I was replying to a comment that does not seem to be here anymore, and and I was just trying to educate someone who Isn't that crash hot on Australian "history", and have a bit of a joke... so I will delete my comment... but seriously, what part of the internet have I become, because I have been on the interweb since the mid 90's... and I haven't changed a bit
Colbert forgot how to take a joke because he is constantly thinking about who is gonna be offended. Stop being square Colbert!
Its how people keep their jobs nowadays. Every Aurthur and Martha gets precious at the smallest things and then the media goes apeshit over it. This PC cotton wooling has gone off the deep end.
Everyones so scared of being politically incorrect its so fucking boring now! You can have a laugh surely without shitting yourself at every joke
Colbert's so ready to move to New Zealand and Hobbit-ville!!🤣
What the hell Stephen, keep up with the conversation!
This guy cant do an interview to save his life... most of these guests will never come back!!!
As someone else pointed out, Stephen is not a cynic or sardonic. He is full of heart. So he has a hard time vibing with other comedians who are a little more detached. Stephen can't vibe with Louie CK, nor Bill Burr. He can't even vibe with Jerry Seinfeld. But it's just because of how different their approach is to comedy. Jim Jefferies is mean and sarcastic, and Stephen is not. I love them both but that's just how it is.
Gumbatei - Thank you!
He's annoyingly religious, and like all religious people is a bit of a hypocrite. Also to say he's not mean and sarcastic ignores the material he presents literally every show :)
lol so true. His whole career is built on sarcasm and satire.
Some people are just fucking retards and should keep their brain damaged notions to themselves.
Colbert is the first to admit he's not a nice guy.
Great interview
Jim is bloody brilliant!
I really like Stephen but it's obvious he has problems with comedians who are atheists, he always gets defensive with Ricky Gervais & here he's disengaged with Jim. At times he's devout Catholicism clearly shows his intolerance for non-believers!
THIS. Nails exactly what I find unsettling about Colbert. Maintains a liberal front, until he's poked in the bible and goes into reactive, defensive, involuntary reaction mode. Turns out there's another brainwashed judgemental catholic underneath that suave, witty exterior.
Michael Mathews I applaud Stephen for being Christian in a Christian-majority country. Oh what bravery! I swoon under his might.
Benjamin Doepel-Stevens I think that you don’t understand that the purpose of life is not to be detached or cool with everything including that which you understand to be inherently evil.
It is a central tenet of our faith that murder and casual sex are inherently evil, and anyone who says otherwise needs correcting.
There is nothing I can do to convince you that Jesus is God due to the fact that that entails your life is not your own. There is nothing you can do to convince me that Jesus is not God, else I would have no purpose in life, and no hope of immortality.
Bill Maher too when he’s on.
Evan Nibbe The only reason religion exists is because people fear dying and that there is nothing after death, so they created God and heaven so they can think there is some purpose to life and that there is an afterworld to go to after we die!! It is the people that cannot live without thinking there is another existence after this one that is the reason that religion persists to this day, and because of them they have this stupid belief they will get a second chance at redeeming themselves when they should live this life to the fullest, being the best they can be and striving to do all they can because this is all you get!!!
