  • Hey Good People,
    I had a 2012 Dodge Charger in the shop. The customer declined the diagnostic. Sometimes it doesn't end well because what they think the problem is, most of the time is not the answer.
    In this video, let's see if my customer was right this time.

    Beyond doing my own oil changes, and air filters, I leave the work to the pros like you. Just enjoy watching someone that's good at what they do.

    Funny talking about folks misdiagnosing their vehicle. I took my vehicle to two different shops and both said no head issues. Block test was negative both times. Asked for a leak down and one did but said all cylinders passed. Both said a radiator leak was causing a loss of coolant. Funny thing is driving for 45 min and stopping showed coolant being pushed into the reservoir. They both said it was from and air pocket. FIRST time they got something right but they were still wrong. It was a blown head gasket cylinder 3 on a chrysler 3.6. I diagnosed by doing my own leak down with the radiator cap off and watched coolant spew all over the place. Nothing on 1 or 5 so just 3 was bad. So a block test will show negative if you do not let the engine hit 203 and let the thermostat open to allow the air pocket to move through the radiator to the fill cap. So sometimes we shade tree mechanics can diagnose properly when shops just shoot for the I know better. But I have learned a lot from your channel and this was a missdos.

      Yea. Block tests can show negative. That’s why they can’t just be the end all be all. Awesome job for being able to diagnose it yourself. I love to hear it 😎

      @@AlexTheCarDoctor Thank you! I am in the processes of breakign down to bank 2 to pop the head off and send it to a machine shop for testing and resurfasing. Again I have watched a ton of your videos to give me hope in pulling this off myself.

    A lot of people need to learn the hard way that it’s cheaper let a pro diagnose the problem and fix what’s actually broken the first time.
    I’m a little 50/50 though because proper diag is becoming a lost art and a lot (especially bigger shops) places are becoming parts changers. It’s important to find a shop you can trust and then trust them. Let them do their job and everybody will be happier about it in the end.

    If your pulling the condensor out without diag.. I would still check hvac operation. Irs good to note it did or did not work prior to work.

    Transcooler leak. Notorious on those Dodge vehicles. Great thing is you get a new AC condenser along with the unit!

    Wouldnt the diagnosis fee roll intonthe cost of the REAL repair? Most shops ive dealt with do it that way, but sometimes its HARD to get a customer to realize that. Theyll pay tonhave you change what THEY think it is, then get mad when their issue not fixed

    • @AlexTheCarDoctor
      @AlexTheCarDoctor  Год назад +3

      Some shops to it as a gimmick to get you in then they just amp up the cost of repair. Diagnosing takes time, and I have to get paid for my time. It’s easier for me to just be transparent and charge the diag fee out front and in the open.
