  • Even as a non Civic aficionado, I'll be the first to say that this 'standard' version of the iconic SiR-II EG Civic is a fantastic car to drive, especially when you drop the weight out even more and pump up the already decent power (for its time in particular) to attain supercar worrying ability at trackdays...
''When the fifth-generation Civic came around in September 1991, Honda was regarded as one of the foremost front wheel drive makers in the world. The new Civic, dubbed the "Sport Civic", took all the values of the previous model and made them slightly better. Three different body styles were offered: a 3-door hatchback, the newly christened "Ferio" 4-door sedan, and a 5-door hatchback, known as the "shuttle". Underneath their hoods were a variety of new engines, most of them featuring VTEC technology: the base models came with a 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter inline-4; mid-level models had either an easy-to-service 1.5-liter SOHC VTEC inline-4 or a fuel-efficient 1.5-liter with VTEC-E; and the premier Civic model was powered by none other than the mighty 1.6-liter DOHC inline-4 that produced 168 HP, 10 HP more than any previous generation SiR motor.
To handle the extra power, Honda engineers stiffened up the car's double wishbone suspension system. The SiR was a pure driver's car, with nothing more than the essentials. The SiR-II, the second and more popular model, added comfort amenities such as air conditioning, power windows and a leather-covered steering wheel. The SiR-II also got a 4-speed automatic transmission. One drawback of the automatic was that the engine's peak output was cut to 153 HP to improve low and medium-range torque. Still, the addition of the automatic transmission definitely broadened the Civic SiR's appeal to an entirely new group of buyers.
Compact, lightweight, and low to the ground, with an aggressive yet attractive body style, the fifth generation Civic, introduced in 1991, is the quintessential boy-racer car. Many consider this model to be one of the best handling FF (front engine/front-wheel drive) cars on the planet. The chassis feature a double-wishbone suspension and steering system that made the car a monster through corners. The top of the line SiR-II came with a naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter DOHC VTEC engine. It was, and remains, the pride of Japan. This Civic is still popular today, thanks to predecessors like this 1993 model.''

My first car ever was a ej1 ( the coupe version of this gen of civic) absolutely love it. No aids of any kind, light weight and manual transmission, it’s great. This was the car I was hoping to see the most in the car list

This is probably my favorite car out of the 5, and I love the JACCS Civic replica build I did with it.

By a margin the length of Saturn's rings my favourite car of the update. This car, despite it's reputation for the types of it's drivers, both in real life and media, is consistently among the most reliable starters in almost every Gran Turismo game. Being imo the best starter in GT1 thanks to dominating the FF and Lightweight cup, Among the fastest FF in GT2 for sub 295 racing, is a really good GT4 starter with a lot of events it can tackle, and as Nismonath proved in his top 12 GT6 cars you need to try stock video, with just RSS tires can beat the Tuning Car race at Cape Ring.
I view the SIR-II as the Type R before the Type R Civic. 168 HP in a Civic is a lot of power for the time when you think about it. For comparison, a regular EG Civic has 102 hp, and the later EG Type R has 182 HP, only 14 more than the SIR II. And guess what, the EK is also heavier then the EG. and the SIR might be even rarer since it's it's exclusive to Japan.
It's for this reason I have no issue with the 50k+ price in GT7. It's pretty insane it was consistently a starter in the first place. And just as I was hoping, it's just as fun to drive as it was before in GT7. I currently have 4 different versions: Stock, tuned with the normal engine to 276hp, rally build, and fully tuned with the Integra engine. Even the Integra powered Civic with over 400hp handled way, way better than the Garage RCR Civic with only 350hp. on Racing Softs.
Don't get me wrong, it's probably the least useful Honda Civic in GT7, now that we got more that can have the FL Civic engine swap, but I wouldn't say it's far off, and for my money, it's far more fun. The only problem I have with the car, and I really do mean only, is the wheels. No longer being the distinct and cool ninja star like steel wheels, it's now the aluminum 5 spoke, with no suitable replacement.

"EK Type R has 182" and I'm referring to the RCR engine swap, not the FL Civic.
Had this passion comment on the backhand for days constantly updating it and somehow I still didn't notice them before it got hearted. F off life.

This Civic with the Integra engine swap and some upgrades performed well at circuits with lots of technical corners like the World Touring Car 600 event at Grand Valley Highway 1.

They're dead easy to work on. Don't go the common and easy K-Swap route though. If you ever do make a project car out of one, make it unique!
