I appreciate the radio call. I can picture myself driving with my dad listening to Joe on AM radio, every time you go under a power line the radio buzzes. I listened to this with that effect in my head. Good times!
I was at this game! With 5 buddies from Thunder Bay, Ontario. We saw 7 hockey games and 2 baseball games on this epic road trip in April of 1998. This game definitely topped it all 😅
My college roommate on Long Island went to high school with Mo. They were like 2 of the handful of black guys who went to Trinity Pawling. A prep school.
I was at this game. I suggested to my friend that we leave after the top of the 9th and he was pretty insistent about staying, despite the 5 run deficit. Four future HOFers in that game. Randy Johnson went 8 and struck out 15.
Hello joe. I’m from mass and grew up listening to you call games on the radio. I recently got a job calling games in the Korean league kbo to Las Vegas and want to thank you for being a great inspiration.
So many Red Sox greats that never won a ring. It would take 6 more years and the great Big Papi and crew to finally break that curse. Mo Vaughn was certainly one who should've brought the Sox to that dance.
I was at this game. Randy Johnson went 8 innings in complete control and Lou didn’t let him finish. The guy I went with wanted to leave but when I saw Heathcliff Slocumb coming out of the bullpen I was like, let’s wait and see what happens. The bullpen never recorded an out.
When it comes to pure intimidation Vaughn was one of those guys you can tell terrified pitchers. I mean it was like having to face a ferocious NFL middle linebacker (Ray Lewis) at the plate.
Hot summer night with Castig's voice on the car radio .. one of those vibes you take for granted, and I'll miss it forever.

You got it! Nostalgia! Sitting in the back seat as a kid with no responsibilities and hearing calls like this on the radio.
You had to listen to it on the radio, because Channel 68 was always a terrible signal.
Who did Ken Coleman call games for?
@@Mo-yd8xc The Indians and the Red Sox.
@@Mo-yd8xcKen Coleman was Joe's first partner on Red Sox radio. They were together for the 1983-1989 seasons.
Joe Castiglione is the voice of childhood
I couldn’t agree with you more
Same
Can't believe he's retiring!

What a way to cap off a road trip
Mike Timlin was the losing pitcher…he became an important Red Sox legend a few years later
'I hanve t seen anything more dramatic then this'
Give it 6 years...
I'll never forget this
Randy went 8 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 15 K… 138 pitches
My favorite player growing up 🥹 Before Papi, there was Mo Vaughn
My college roommate on Long Island went to high school with Mo. They were like 2 of the handful of black guys who went to Trinity Pawling. A prep school.
Such a bummer than Mo's career was cut short. Loved that swing!
Trupiano was great. I wish he stayed with the broadcast team. His cry of WAY BACK! never got old.
He was there with Joe for 14 seasons. He had a good run, including being there in 2004.
Mo was SO sweet for the Sox. Underrated player for sure
Too bad his clubbing and partying ruined his Sox career. Foxy lady clap clap clap clap

Glad you listened to your friend! We stayed and witnessed this too 😊
Big Papi before Big Papi

Joe Castiglione!!
the original David ortiz
Oh, I REMEMBER this

It looked like he hammered that, but it barely got out

I believe I caught a quick glimpse of Alex Cora heading down the runway in the Seattle dugout!
Actually, that was Joey Cora, Alex's brother.
The '98 Sox were a solid team too. Just obviously overshadowed by we know who
You mean the Indians, who knocked them out of the playoffs that year, right?
Definitely indicitive with the red of the late 90s to early 2000s. Great offense, and horrible pitching outside pedro
@@billny33Yankees, my friend.
@@sec9788 of course. Just being coy.

You can see Cora at 2:04, lmao
His older bro, Joey. Solid 2nd baseman for the Mariners in the 90s. Good baseball family!
Joey, not Alex.
Damn I wish I read the comments underneath before going on a quest to find out who the Cora was that you pointed out.
I always liked Mo Vaughn. Cool batting stance with that bad ass swing. He friggin crushed that ball.
THE HIT DAWG
Moooooo!
Oof on that first pitch caught half a foot outside and called a strike, someone shoulda smacked that dude standing behind the catcher!
Tim Tschida, future heel for the Red Sox
David Ortiz
Can you imagine being Randy Johnson and striking out 15 batters only to get a no decision😂.
Wait a minute…..they got those 7 runs without ever getting an out?
Yes
Boston does all sorts of bad things to the mariners.
'Mike timlin the loser'
Wonder if he will ever ecover 😂
Love this. For the true youngsters here, Mike Timlin was on the 2004 and 2007 Sox championship teams.
And that's what happens when you pull out the winning pitcher and replace it with a losing pitcher
Today he would be pinch hit for because analytics don’t like the lefty-lefty matchup
Pinella...
Spoljaric on the mound?! Yeah, you knew that game was over😂dude SUCKED!
This is why I will always hate Dan Duquette
