I absolutely LOVE the change in tempo and feel on this song. When it drops down to a crawl in the middle.. and then picks back up again for the finish. Just SO good. I literally wake up in the morning sometimes singing "...I'm talking about the midnight rambler..." in my head sometimes. lol. Also, RIP Charlie. We love you!

The 1989 tour supporting the _Steel Wheels_ album was a comeback tour of sorts after Mick and Keith gave up their solo excursions and buried the hatchet re: their disagreements with each other and it was a great success.

Charlie Watts died today, 8-24-2021. The drummer for the Rolling Stones since 1963! Charlie was a great drummer & really held the band together during difficult times. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Mr. Watts.

The best Stone's song without hesitation. I was outside the stadium when they rehearsed it in Madrid back in June this year. You couldn't see them, no lights, no nothing, just the song and it was incredible. So loud, so powerful, so good.

This is the Rolling Stones best blues work. This one song has a blues shuffle, a straight 8 feel, and a 12/8 feel all in the same song. An original work no other band ever accomplished. Brilliant!

Im 46 now! I can't believe it when I first saw the Stones in in '89, I was 14. My whole life has passed me by. LOL
What an incredible performance! Keith and Ronnie playing off each other flawlessly, Bill and Charlie serving up the swinging rhythm and Mick delivering the goods on vocals and harp. There's a reason why they've lasted so long. Was fortunate enough to have seen them on this tour. Hopefully we'll all have a chance to see them soon.

Agreed Mike, unfortunately have to miss European gigs due to prostate op recently, first time missing since '76, if you were to pick any of their earlier shows Atlantic City would be pretty hard to beat on any level
1989/1990 Steel wheels/Urban jungle tour was their best, and more generally the Best tour ever done in Show business industry.
Nobody better at this time I have seen every band during late sixties thru now these guys were unbelievable don't get any better than this ROCK ON !!!!

One night I drank too many coors lights silver bullets and listened live versions of respectable and woke the next morning on General Lemay`s birthday in 1993 at 34 and did not believe in god any more .Some place near Bristol Borough ,PA and by the end of January 1996 the place burnt to the ground , some tribute those people gave to a great guy like General Lemay.

This is one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen. They are completely locked in. They are all doing different things, but it's all completely harmonious. This is what live is about. An experience you can't get anywhere else. Among other things I think the Stones grasped the importance and power of live before and more than anyone else and among many other things it's what made them who they were at this moment and who they still are. Anyone know the exact date and or venue?

Check out the midnight rambler live on the goats head 2020 release. It’s from a 1973 Brussels concert that used to circulate as a bootleg titled “bedspring symphony, a box lunch and meat whistle”

I saw this tour in 1989 at the LA Coliseum and they killed it. Had Guns and Roses open up for them in LA only. What a show it was. I remember hearing Mick bust out those first notes from his E harmonica. I knew what was coming, and I was not disappointed. My question is, how can someone listen to this and not realize the blues brilliance? It is a blues opera, as Keith has said.

@@thugtrippin Except for Andrew Loog Oldham came up with the attitude, and Mick came up with many of the riffs. Brown Sugar is written entirely by Mick including that iconic riff. Mick & Keith are both indispensable to the Stones, no matter how bad their solo careers have been.

Saw them on this tour the first weekend in Toronto... had been waiting nearly a decade since I was too young to travel to the States and see them in '81. IIRC the ticket cost.. gasp... $45 and we were pretty much sitting Lake Ontario we were so far back. Didn't matter, though... the show was fantastic. A couple of bars into Before They Make Me Run, Keith realized they had messed up and stopped the song, apologized to the 62,000 in the crowd and started over! Despite that, the band was pretty tight (as tight as the Stones ever get LOL). A surprise was when they played 2000 Light Years From Home, and everything else was classic. It was 31 years ago and I remember it like last week. :)
