  • There where so many complicated different color wires and harnesses that made a big tangled mess. I cut out the "remote" switch and some other wiring BS that I really don't need and made the wiring assembly really simple and far less likely to short circuit through contact with other wires or break.
    DISCLAIMER: If you do this set up, your Winch will still be operational when your ATV/vehicle is off. The battery will NOT be drained so don't worry about a dead battery I also spoke to tech help before setting this up just to be sure.

    Do you need a circuit breaker on battery and a fuse on the button red wire

    Just wondering, if you run the little red wire coming off the rocker switch back to the battery wouldnt it drain your battery when atv is not running?

    This is how I wired my two winches. Simple toggle switches to control cable in/out whether the ATV is running or not. Good video. Not sure why a plug-in remote is needed on a quad. A truck, yes. To get some distance from the cable under tension.

      If it's an off camber situation and you don't want to sit on it a remote is handy. I'd rather watch it flop over on nothing than have it land on me.

    Thank you, the switch to the winch on my old quad runner broke and there was never a. Solenoid ....must have been part of the original switch ... cannot get exact replacement, so am adding a solenoid with wires to match a switch, which happen to be the same as yours...should work

      Hey did that set up and new solenoid work for you in the end?

  • @louisp.3332
    @louisp.3332 5 лет назад

    Doesn’t the solenoid also act like a relay for lights so that the switch isn’t handling all the power or no? Can all the power go through that little switch?

      no, it switches polarity, reversing it depending on whether your winching in or out

      nice I knew I could help someone out :). In the end I didn't use the rocker handlebar switch. Instead I directly attached the handheld remote switch instead. This is a better set up because if I don't want any one using the winch I just pull the remote plug.

  • @tbensonny

    Nice but the two leads connected to the actual winch are not positive and negative, the polarity changes when you winch in or out.

    Great video easy peasy like the way you think don't need no stinkin remote just using the winch for plow anyways keep them coming

    This video makes my heart race! racing through wires that are apread all over the ground, video says ATV and hes puting it in his truck. Still not sure why the wires confused him so much.

      Turkey Blast sorry for the fast paced action... honesty if I had known this video would become so popular, I would have made the film slower and more carefully. I honestly was late for work and only expected less than 100 views.

    Vid say atv. But yet he says it’s going on his truck. A 3000 lb winch on a truck. Lol. U need a winch that will do 1 and a half times the weight of the vehicle being winched.

      Ranger J the winch was used for moving heavy items, not itself.

      My dad wondered why I put a 10,000lb winch on an S10 Blazer. I told him that I have friends with big trucks. First day I pulled out a 91 Dodge Cummins on 37s, almost every time that I have gotten stuck there was nothing to hook to. 100ft of cable and 4 20 ft chains and still not enough. Now I keep 2 100ft cables in the back as well.

    if the little bundle of wire conused you, you shouldnt be wiring anything, as you barely have the mental capacity to live.
    its a relay setup to make the winch work only with switch power so you dont kill your battery while using your winch. leaving you stranded.

    • @positivewarrior5206
      @positivewarrior5206  7 лет назад

      nope, never been stranded... and still works. the battery is fine

      Dual battery kit. Allows winch to utilize back up battery and charge it when you’re done. No getting stranded isolator will keep cranking battery safe and charged.
