- So, I got my hands on a Viennetta. One of the first ones available in my area in fact. So I thought I would show you guys how good it is and should you buy it. It was originally released by Breyers and now it is released by Good Humor. I don't know why they changed the brand names, but they did.

This was my dads favorite ice cream when I was a kid. I only ended up trying it once before it left grocery stores here. Then got an ad on facebook yesterday saying it's back. So went to Safeway today and checked to see if it was there and they had it! I picked it up and left it in the freezer and told my dad that I got him a present and to go check the freezer. I was listening from the other room and I just heard NO WAY! Truly heartwarming moment haha.
I was like $6? Hell no, then I ended buying it anyway.
You're a good son. This made me smile. I'm gonna do the same for my mom. She was just telling me about this stuff, said she always had our freezer stocked with it. I'm gonna go stock her up on her favorite food for once!
😍
My father is always drunk. He locked me in the toilet when I was four years old and brutally beat me to death. He said I'm ugly. I would never buy him ice cream.
So good, so happy it's back
Looking forward to eating it again
My mother used to buy these. It was hers. She would buy us the dipped ice scream bars. She used to cut the wrapping in such a way to reclose it, that she would know if anyone took a slice if this 😂😂😂
I managed to finally find one yesterday at my local Publix. I was a teen in the 90s and I remember the commercials on TV. Yes, they were marketed as a fancy dessert and being a poor kid in rural east Texas its something that I never would have gotten the chance to eat. Every Time I saw the commercial, I would always dream of eating a slice out of a crystal goblet just like the commercial. Now that I'm 41 and have adult money. I can buy the luxuries I was deprived of as a child. I can't wait to dig into this bad boy but I have a feeling its not going to live up to its hype.
was it good though?
So how’d you like it?
@Scott Loessel It was okay. Its smaller than what I remembered so the price point doesn't equate to me. I think a chocolate dip cone from Dairy Queen is equally good.
@@KS-xl2wl I remember them being way better. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever had it definitely was creamy but it was very lacking in flavor.!-$: not worth the price when you can usually find Hagan Das or Ben&Jerry on BOGO for less.
I feel the same way can relate to that!
I used to see these commercials as a hungry kid and
I used to tell myself that I would get these as soon as I was old enough to make $ for food.
I started cleaning houses at 11 and they were gone by then.
I finally saw one at the store yesterday and got one and ate it aaaaallllll!!!!
Same,I wanted this so bad as a kid but we were basic survival poor. I can't wait to find store that has this !
I remember this product, I had one for my birthday in the 90s and I felt so fancy...my husband found one the other day and it was as good as I remembered!
We only bought it once during my childhood. I loved it, but always wondered why my family never bought it again.
omg! it's so tiny and thin... what I remember it was much more larger and thicker...
the sound of cracking chocolate is so satisfying :)
Yeah, it was smaller than I remembered it too.
I wonder if part of why these didn’t sell was that they were bigger-and in all of the commercials, it’s shown as being a dessert for a fancy dinner party.
At least, if the Viennetta is a little smaller, maybe folks won’t mind buying it and using up that real estate in the fridge for it.
Grocery nerd here
Fluid oz and oz are different things (because imperial is a stupid system), but it's ok I had some hagan daz on hand to look at.
Haagen Dazs = 323g/$4.50 = 71g of ice cream per dollar
Viennetta = 595g/$7.80 = 76g of cake per dollar
So Viennetta is a slightly better value. But if we look at how filling they are
Haagen Dazs (vanilla) = 830cal/$4.50 = 185cal/dollar
Viennetta = 780/$7.80 = 100cal/dollar
Hagan daz is way more filling per dollar. My guess is that viennetta is using an ice cream with a high water content, which is typical of cheap ice creams.
Super interesting break down! Nice!!
I am a 70’s child and still moon over this delicacy
I seen an old lady buying 2 boxes today I thought I was seeing things I couldn’t believe they came back ❤
Found this at Kroger today. I gasped!! You should’ve served it in a crystal wine glass 🎩
Ahhhhhhh wish I was near a location that had it. Totally ice cream lasagna. Thank you for doing this!
My pleasure! Happy to help!
It is smaller. I learned how to make my own. This was my favorite ice cream.
I remember the box used to be fancier and not like🤔knock-off honeybun logos.
Unintentional ASMR
Lmao... your sense of having eloquence and then saying fuck it is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣 Just absolutely went savage on that ice cream
so.. we can still get this in nearly any store with a freezer section in the UK. most chain stores have their own off brand versions and you can get all different flavours. as for the price, the Walls stuff can be pretty expensive, around £4 , but the other day, i picked up a 2 pack of off-brand, double chocolate, full size for 1 whole pound
I LOVED this ice cream. They made me feel like it was that. And as a kid in the 90s, that was everything to me.
yup I remember these, good to know they are still around somewhere, havent seen them in a long time!
They reintroduced it just last month
i was the 300 like!!!!!!!! you go dude !!!
Thanks man!
In the UK I've eaten these for years. Their like £2 each, so to see how much you have to pay is just wow.
Here, I love the "birthday cake" version, too.
The limited edition chocolate orange was so good too
@James Jones ooh not found that, but it sounds good. Thank you for your reply. It reminded me I had a Christmas one left. "Yule log" 😋
The texture is sssssoooo good. When I eat taste isn't all that matters. It matters how it feels to eat it. This has all the goodness of lasagnas texture in ice cream form.
I have one in my freezer and I am SO PUMPED. I wanted one when I was a little kid so bad and Never could we get one
Fantastic review love watching you eat. Yummmmmyyyy
I got one from the dollar general for $6 and I was so disappointed. The vanilla has almost no flavor. It tasted like low fat ice milk. The chocolate is ok but it’s doesn’t have enough flavor to rescue the bland vanilla. Which is very creamy almost like a frozen whipped cream but other then that the complete lack of flavor we ended up throwing more then half of it away.
Literally couldn't agree more. I wasn't alive then but I bought two today and tried it only to realize I paid 4 dollars for nostalgia and that's it.
@@ninja-981 it’s a shame cause I remember them being so good!
My father used to get then when I was kid. I don't know if it's a false memory, but I'm pretty sure they were off-limits. Although, I do remember sneaking it. Like you said, I remember them being a lot bigger than these. I also remember them looking like they tasted better. This video has be rather underwhelmed. Weren't they also in a better container too? Not just a bag?
I kinda want to try them, but I also don't want to be disappointed. They also only seem to stock them at a store I don't usually go to. So, I would have to go a little out of my way to get them. I don't understand this lazy attempt at remaking these.
I'm eating an Aldi version, never knew it got rereleased, haven't seen it until today finding an off brand one.
When I was a kid I used to want this so bad but adults would never let us kids try it!
Saw one in the store I had to get one for that reason
we just this moment shared one between four of us :D they're on sale for $6 at our supermarket at the moment. love this dessert. i think maybe the ice cream portion is semi fredo? the same sort of ice cream in a streets drumstick.
It wasnt just fancy, commercial music was like baby making music 😂
Let me guess, it was like when Planters brought back the Cheez Balls/Curls and they were NOT the same as they were before. :(
Never had Vienetta before until a couple of days ago. I regret not trying it in the 90’s🙈. It was Awful 😢
Recently went to Hyvee and found this and I just had to buy it. My mom used to always eat this in the 90s so it was a throwback moment for sure so I bought her one as well.
Nice 😊
I don’t think he got enough ice cream in his beard.
You’re definitely right. I’ll try to get more in there next time.
I believe they started in the 80, I remember having them when I got here from Cuba.
Tried it tonight, it's fancy Cool Whip now, not ice cream anymore.
That's what it tasted like to me too. Took a bite and it was like eating the toppings off an ice cream cake but there is no cake, just the toppings. Like selling pizza toppings with no bread or flavor.
Used to be made by Breyers, which I'm sure makes all the difference
Awesome review. You made me feel
Like I tasted it.
I just bought 2 because I was so excited. Well it sucks! Good Humor is just humoring me.
Childhood memories
things were always larger to us as kids
I remember growing up watching the commercials, grew up lower income so trying it was always just a dream for me although i still wish i had the chance to try it, when they brought it back i was happy because now i have adult money i can spend😂 well finally after about a year of them releasing it, i found it in all places at a damn liquor store in the middle of the city that wasnt the best area😂 bought it, got it home, and well it sucked. Sadly. Was a let down, tasted nicebbut the flavors were way to subtle, little more vanilla flavor would have gone a long way
I always remember this being produced by Breyer’s too, but before finding this video, I found a commercial on RUclips for this product from 1987 and it’s referred to as a Good Humor product.
ruclips.net/video/yyxRhnrbHl4/видео.html
I am 36 I remember the commercial and I always wanted to try it!!
I thought our family was rich when my mom got this
Eww the fact that it gets stuck on your Baird looks unappetizing but overall thanks for the review.
Dang! We ate it before watching this! How do I go back?
This stuff is absolute trash. I haven’t had it since the Breyer’s version, but I’m pretty sure it had actual ice cream back then.
Look at the ingredients: nonfat milk, coconut oil, emulsifiers. This is all frankenfiller. This vienetta tastes like Cool Whip. Better off spending 99 cents on some Walmart brand whipped topping. Avoid!
Unfortunately I’d agree. It tasted all weird along with weird textures in the cream. It’s definitely not the same as I remember. The original was far more dense. Some number cruncher ruined this one.
Breyer and Good Humor both belong to Unilever.
That makes perfect sense. I wonder why they decided to switch brands for it this time around.
This is the one case where I don't think price comparison is applicable. There is nothing really with that taste or texture in the ice cream market
Exactly. Of course plain ass, boring vanilla cookie cutter ice cream is $4.50. You get what you pay for. Vienetta is absolutely worth it.
The ASMR at 2:48 🤤. Also, i remember being a kid and seeing the awkwardly seductive commercial for this ice cream.
Haagen Daz was always a premium for me so I'd pick a pint of Haagen Daz or Ben and Jerry's lol
Omfg! This was the epitome of wealth and fine dining in the 90s
Just tried some today very very disappointed the ice cream tasted different wished they brought back the real version
Agreed but Breyer's stopped making real ice cream years ago. And their products have only lost quality since.
I tried it and I don’t know if they changed the recipe but it tasted bland. Well I guess it not Breyer’s anymore
Thank you! I THOUGHT it was a different company but I couldn't remember which one.
Breyers ice cream is leagues better than good humor, maybe that's why it tastes different now.
They should introduce a Ben and Jerry version. Covid 19 has make supply issued apparently!
Dude!! my husband and I just found it at our local Grocery outlet Bargain Mart in Downey can't wait to try it.
The grey pupon of Ice cream…or the lasagna of ice cream lol
I don't know why but this was extremely entertaining
I sooo wish I could take a pic & post it as a comment.....cuz I just got my Viennetta last night in Oakland, Cali. & it was $7.99+tax. I HAD to get it when I seen it. My kids laughed at the commercial (to them it's an ad) cuz it's soooo old. But they 4 sure can't wait to try it. We r the lucky few who got one! Yea! By the way.....RUclips needs to allow pics in the comments & of course the pic would have to be approved by RUclips b4 it's publicly posted.
Basically looks like it’s just twirly designed breyers ice cream with Klondike bar chocolate
If you dont cut it up and just eat the lot, technically you only ate one portion/piece.
Fact.
In the uk the vienetta is £1.20. Just one magnum is £1.80.
Quick maffs
Ive seen it on sale for 2-3 Euros in Germany. Sometimes there's one free with one in that price too.
they never got discontinued here, also not super popular, but its my dads favorite
@@thock_enjoyer 😀 are you from Germany? Can you tell Which icecreams are popular in Germany/ in your country..Not Eisladen ones because they are mostly unique to each eisladen if I'm not wrong. I know a lot about SpaghettiEis but not much else.
Its vice-versa in Europe. Haagen-Dazs costs around 7€ and Viennetta 3€-3,50€ because its European and HD is US.
I remember in my childhood how I considered this along with Raffaello, Toffiffee and Ferrero Rocher as the most expensive desserts for only really special occasions :D
Very nice!
I really liked Vienetta as a kid. It's really cool they brought it back.
Breyers made this originally, any connection to Good Humor?
@@thinkman2467 yep Unilever owns both of the brand
Even the u.k brach called wells
I have been waiting for this item to return. Would certainly give it a shot if can find it. It was in 1995 when my mother bought it but rarely did have the opportunity to have it more than twice. Back then it was think 27 ounces and cost $8.99. So there you go. Was kind of obsessed with this product then.
This has been available in Finland forever. Strange it's been unavailable some other places. It's so good.
You guys probably have the previous version which was way better.
Uh you're also paying for the serving presentation, not just the "novelty". You can't throw a pint of Häagen-Dazs on the table and have friends cut it up. But I imagine that serving guests didn't occur to you.
I remember Mom getting one because she wanted to try it. It was OK, but didn't live up to the hype.We still ate it, though.
They have them on sale here for $2.99/pack - I might just get a couple.
Whats up with it being made by Good Humor and not Bryers?
I don’t know. Apparently they are owned by the same parent company. I have no idea why they changed brands.
@@AdamMurrayLive I assume snice in the u.k viettnetta is own by wells ( the u.k verison of good humor)
Not too sure but that would make sense
I just tried one of these, and it's terrible. It tasted like frozen cool whip, with layers of chocolate shell in the middle. Fine as a novelty, but considering how expensive it is and how it was built up as this "fancy, high-class dessert" I would have rather just had a tub of ice cream and chocolate shell. (Would have cost less, and given way more to eat.)
that looks shit compared to what it used to look like lol
It’s smaller isn’t it?
@@AdamMurrayLive yeah and flatter
$5.50 in KY
Dude you got ice cream on your mustache
It was 750$ back in the 80s
It was brought out by Breyers. Now it’s Good Humor.
They used to be MUCH larger, yes. i just recently tried it again and was supremely disappointed...tasted like cheap, airy ice cream with a slightly textured wafery thing going on. not good and most DEF. not worth the money. pint of BEN or or whatever is a MUCH better choice. i loved your review, absolutely perfect. its the quality of ice cream for me, its too cheap.
Skip to 2:49 for the magic
I wonder how thry make it
You're cheating you're supposed to make your own waffles
looks like an ice cream lasagna!
(^and he actually says that)
Me sat munching on one of these right now.
very fond memories of vienetta in australia, had another one recently not the same
man i was craving one of these from like 20 years ago...only to find out they were discontinued and now brought back, but now I cant find one within 100 miles from their store search. How do you actually get one??
They used to be made by breyers
If it ain't bryers vienetta (best ever)...it ain't the one from 90s commercial
You look sophisticated eating it
They started selling it at frys again.
Hay a fellow airsona man
nothing more appetizing than eating creamy/messy stuff with an unattended beard
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I used to love these things!
We still carry them
I wanted one since I was a kid, I bought one tonight and I tell you all the years of waiting were a well deserved disappointment...I fell for advertising
Mafia ICE cream nice
vienetta ice cream chocolate feuilleté i love it , where I live we have bigger. We still have it.
Viennetta isn t Full of air , if there's no air in ice cream it will be complitly icy. We have here for 650 ml 1,99 €
It reminds me of lasagna 😂😂😂
i found it at the Weis yeeeeeeeeeee
How did i end up here
You wanted awesome and you got awesome. Welcome to the awesome party.
Ive not seen those for a hella long time. Got to see if my store sells them. Lol i hope you get a kick back from that plug.
Nope! I just thought it was interesting so I figured I’d show it.
