this man is genius. you find special effect tutorials anywhere but he teaches you how to make movies like sounds , phase , key frames this is so Freaking awesome
Freddiew has potential to be a legendary filmmaker, but he also takes the time to show each of us that we have that same potential. It is clear that filmmaking is in freddie's blood and i admire him for all he has achieved. Not only is he a great filmmaker but a great teacher and instructor. In filming, he shows you exactly what he wants, and in tutorials, explains what he wants you to learn so that his talent can be passed on to us. Congratulations Freddiew for your well deserved success.

This is the original from face rocker. I used wayback machine to get an archive of the page and it directed me to this.
you are a hero
TheAverageFilmer God you're here!!!!
Also, out of curiosity, for people complaining about the flour on the ground and the hair - are Scorcese movies unwatchable for you?
Make a Beach Justice movie! I'd like it much more than VGHS, personally
1. What did you use to film this tutorial?
2. What editing program did you use?
Please make the footage available somewhere else b/c the link has expired

Thanks dude!
Thanks awesome to see the footage!
what type of camera does he use
What is the song that playing at the start ?
Good idea
@@matthewlee9937 I've lookin for this song for more than 10 years. Still get nothing 😞
is it vegas ?
Back when final cut pro was really pro and amazing...
Out of curiosity what should I have done about different hair? Not use the shot?
it says i cant download the footage... :(
Curious that you're using FCP to cut, and AE to do effects... rather than using Premiere/AE - with dynamic link... which is 10x faster, and easier. Maybe someday you'll switch :)
Either way, great insight into your though process - your techniques on breaking continuity was something I had never really considered before... but it's also been a while since I've edited scripted material.
Thanks for the video!
The shot at 10:00 is so perfectly timed, he falls at almost exactly the same time as you pull the trigger. PERFECT!
program?
OMG I didnt' know there's so much to just editing and cutting videos. its not just about the special effects. your tutorial is awesome. really opened my eyes to the world of editing.
freddie, you should do more of these editing tutorials. i learned SO much about editing just from watching this. keep up the fantastic work, my friend
@kRazYkid744 i thinks its final cut pro cuz the only time ive seen this kind is on macs and final cut is only mac
Your understanding of film and theater is truly amazing! Best of luck to you in your life!
It's so interesting hearing the thought process behind everything, it makes more sense
I love how this was basically just a list of all the standard editing rules that you broke in putting together the video.
wow! your understanding of the way people watch a video is rediculously awesome
You should definitely do more of these type of videos. It's great to see what are the thought processes as you edit. Your insight on these things is very helpful too.
If there's one thing that I learned from you, it's not the effects that makes a film great, but it's the editing, transitions, and utilizing the right combination of elements is what makes a film amazing.
Freddie, i like it how you show your subscribers how you do things. No one else does that.
Has anyone else noticed that the dude running away is running over white powder that he is supposedly dropping behind him... except its in front of him?
This was fantastic. Please make more behind-the-scenes editing videos like this. There's so much that you covered in this video that doesn't get emphasized enough in the world of amateur filmmaking, and seeing it all put into practice is a great way to learn it.
Can you give us a link for music in the background?! I am making this :)
The program they used to edit Beach Justice is called Final Cut Pro 7 (by Apple) which is only available on the Mac OS. FCP7 came out in 2009. Since then, Final Cut Pro X was released is 2011, and there is expected to be a new version coming out sometime before this year ends. :D
I seriously didn't know this much thought went into such simple and overlooked things.
I'm amazed.
That was really cool, Freddie. I don't know much about filming/editing so it was neat to hear all the little technical details like focusing on the face or going over the 180 line.
The "aftermath" wide shot @ 10:15 shot is genius, worthy of Hollywood.
That was awesome, I always love freddiew's tutorial vids. He does a great job of explaining the whole editing process and what he goes through to create everything, pretty sweet
@MW2LilRamsicHD the 180 rule is basically a rule that the camera should remain on one side of your subject. A cut to the other side of the "line" would confuse the audience because the space wasn't properly projected to the audience. The rule is flexible in certain cases of course.
Thanks for the editing break down Freddie. I'm in school focusing on directing and editing and your reasons for each cut made perfect sense. Keeping the emotion of the story is always more important that having perfect spacial continuity and you demonstrated that perfectly here. Excellent work!
This is great. You don't think about how much thought you put into it e.g the camera angles, stability etc...
dude this was really the greatest thing i've ever seen on editing. everyone focuses on the program instead of how editing is done. you're a hero dude. anyway, good clip
ps: you need to exercise man you've been gaining lotsa weight in the last few months! new goal for 2011!! hahah hope you don't hate me for this :)
A sensible, intelligent, detailed description. Excellent.
Freddie, you say that long tutorials with you are boring, but this is great, and so are your other long in depth stuff. A lot better than the latest 3 or so days of VFXmas which aren't very good at all. I take into account that watching someone rotoscope something is boring, but still, consider it. You are my favourite RUclipsr, and are generally awesome. But think about it.
Thanks, Freddie...this made a lot of since. I had light bulbs going off in my mind the entire time I was watching this. :)
These vids are great! I wish I was there with you to give you some other pointers and ideas. Same time you also remind me of certain things to cover while editing. Always good to have that!
Dude, you are really smart. Keep doing this "On editing" vids. I subscribed you because of these. Love you.
This is one of the best editing tutorials I've seen. I actually know why shots are good and bad now. Not just how to do crazy effects. THANK YOU!
PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE, JUST YOU TALKING ABOUT THE EDITING OF YOUR VIDEO. I LOVE THE COMMENTARY WORDS AND THE STRUCTURE AND EVERYHING!!! JUST MAKEMORE OF THESE PLS
I think this was your best tutorial/explanation-like video so far! Great!
Wow. Your grasp of film techniques and the way you have fun with them is amazing. Great job on the final product and cheers for making this tutorial-esque thingy :P Cheers again!
@LXgoodstrong ignore everyone else. This is actually FINAL CUT!!!!!!!!! not After effects, not Sony Vegas.
They do use After effects for effects though.
This gives so much insight to your projects, and after watching it, I can appreciate it more
You are a great teacher, freddie. I really learn a lot from you.
Thanks!
Best part about all this editing class, is that you see in the movie how the powder is already on the roof before Ricoh even runs over there, lol. Clearly a multiple attempt shot without cleaning up.
xD Good job though, I thoroughly enjoy watching these. Keep 'em coming.
It's actually Final Cut 7.
@GameFreakTV1 I'm very happy that my country currently has no nasty laws on airsoft guns. Airsoft guns don't have orange tips here and I did use them in sort of public, which is cool.
I'm currently editing my first proper short film and this was a crazy helpful video. I find that listening to people's processes is way better than straight up tutorials. I learned so much! Thanks :)
@freddiew So, do you edit the dialogue etc. BEFORE actually piecing together the cuts?
"Macrumors noted today that Apple put the software bundle on sale, despite having discontinued it months earlier with the release of Final Cut Pro X. The software is only being made available through Apple's phone sales, and not its online or retail stores, the blog notes. The price is $999, which is what the bundle cost before the release of Final Cut Pro X." That's why I couldn't find it on there website after you said that. It's phone only.
This is the kind of stuff I subscribed to freddiew2 for! Brilliant.
SO glad to hear someone on youtube knows what the 180 degree rule is! I wish there was a way to sticky videos..........people need to know
@ccguy92
I have a color correction tutorial. One for vegas, premiere and after effects!
Freddie, you should first post the footage next time and watch what your commenters will make.. would be fun to see how your viewers see it, and than what you do yourself
you made an 11 min vid to explane an 2 min one XD without dubt the best "behind the scenes" episode I have seen from you.. really good
only thing is, there is splilled 'coke' where he is running to even though he hasn't been there yet. 8:55
Other than that small detail, amazing work, Freddie you has a big future ahead of you!
I love how much flour is ALREADY on the roof before he runs there yet :)
Watched every second, and learned a lot. Thanks Freddie!
"we cut out to the wide here, to show my gun drop." just kidding! keep up the good work.
Thanks, I learned a lot. I've been in a video class for my second year now but I haven't learned anything like this. I should show my teacher this video.
Very nice video, it's nice to get some insight into the process and thoughts behind your shooting and editing.
man you are the man freddie im so glad i subscribed to you
I love your detailed explanations. Why can't they all be like this?!
Keep doing more of these On Editing videos! They are killer!
wow this was awesome. you should definitely do more of these editing videos or the explanations of why you shoot something this way or used this angle and such and such. i find this to be really interesting considering i want to take this field as a profession someday :D now i have to rewatch beach justice to see all the angles again. haha
It blows me away how much I learn from one, truely amazing asian.
It's amazing how much funnier Beach Justice was after I watched this one! Our senses have been dulled by bland television, Freddie!
That's the reason why people were commenting on "hair continuity" and other nitpicky things.
5:55 love how your fringe changes from one said to another then back and then again in a split second.. lol ^^
At 07:16 Look at the trail of the "dope". Retakes? Fred has such an attention to detail. Right on, dude!
I wish I knew how to do all this editing stuff. And for whatever reason I still watch all of his editing videos and whatnot.
You look like the terminator @ 10:40. Hehe. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this and giving us this kind of information. Before, you have also explained to me how important muzzle flares and sound are, yet you manage to still teach me something completely new. This is going to be so helpful. Thanks again.
@TheDudecof It's called Final Cut Pro from Apple and only for MACS. For PCs you may want to consider Adobe's PremPro.
I've always found the 180* rule best applied to dialogue scenes. For action scenes so long as you establish two actions by two characters in opposite to each other you shouldn't confuse your audience, because in something as hectic as an action scene, fluent action can be prioritized over the 180 rule. Just in my opinion.
You Sir, Are a Legend! You need to make a full movie one day!
I always wanted to make some shooting sequence in my editing software but I just couldn't film it with my camera, because I always thought I'm gonna get embaressed at school if I put it on the web. Thanks to you for putting up your footage, I can now make my own shooting sequence! THANKS ALOT!
This is breath of fresh air. You rarely see a good video on editing. What program are you using?
thank you freddie! this was very helpful. i didnt notice all these details when i watched the video before.
freddie your awesome editor nobody on youtube is like you
No problem. If you are using PC, two fantastic alternatives to FCP7 are Adobe Premiere Pro (I think Freddie uses this for all of his editing now) and Sony Vegas Pro. And for Freddie's visual effects, he mainly uses Adobe After Effects (which is available on PC, but is pretty expensive). A great alternative to After Effects is HitFilm 2 Ultimate, which is far less expensive and a lot easier to use. Personally, I think HitFilm is better than After Effects.
i'm really not into editing, but i just love your second channel
your not just a amazing special effects editor your also a genius editing director
PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE -- ITS LIKE A FUCKING COMEMNTARY I LOVE THIS.
Wow that spin move editing is cool. Great job man.
@TheBlenderer Check the original video at 0:45. the roof already has coke spilled on it before the guy starts running. I'm guessing it's an artifact from how they shot and reshot on the roof.
Your videos are both entertaining and amazingly educational. Thank you for the tips; I'd love to be even half as good as you some day.
How many cameras do you use in your movies? With all the different angles and such..
you have mastered editing. amazing explanation and commentary.
woah lots of noobs here.
After he couldnt take the shot I thought... this better be good. And that jump cut you did really helped out to make it more epic in a way. The silence before the shot did of course most of the job. Good work, Freddie. You are very good at making the audience understand where what is happening. You know where to place the wide shots.
and yeah, that last pose was ridiculous haha
Is it just me or did the Beach Justice video get 100 times better after watching this video!?
Whatever you took for editing the Video.... Did you use a pro-Cam for all of this or just a "normal" FullHD Cam?
You make editing look so fun!
@JCizzle39
In these cases they usually do, but they sometime do use one camera and just try to simulate the same clip again at a different angle. Hope that helped to answer ur question.
Take a look at 5:50 to 6:09, the part where he holds up his revolver. You'll notice his hair arrangement changed from right to left.
@DaiwaMaster The cartridge is not real, it's an AIRSOFT revolver where suppressed gas is put into every shell through the hole you saw to "spit" out the BB's. Basically, they have JOBS (Freddy being a RUclipsr is also a job) so they get paid and use that money to improve their "armory". Those are, again, not MOVIE PROPS, but Airsoft guns. Movie props are different and more expensive.
Can someone tell me what's the song in the beginning?
