    Welcome back!! I think what you said makes a lot of sense, the other thing keeping people back is their elevated expectations of themselves. Here is an interesting stats for your viewers. From 100 yards in the rough the PGA Tour average of getting up and down is over 3 strokes. That means that they bogey more than they par. Is their rough deeper, probably, but they are the BEST golfers in the world. We think that put in the same situation that we are a failure if we don't make par from the same situation. Same goes for putting...we think that we should make 75% of our 8 foot putts, tour average 48%.

      100 percent agree. There is this weird, dynamic balancing act, though in sports. A razors edge. You've got to be honest with yourself enough to realize things like what you just said, and that you aren't nearly as good as pros, while at the same time, having almost delusional confidence that allows you to step up and perform your best. It's a very fine line to walk.

    Trying to keep up with others in your group doesn’t make the game fun. It actually makes the game a slog. What’s fun is knowing you don’t hit as far off the tee, but end up with the same score on the hole - or better yet, you score better. THAT’S what’s fun.
    Play YOUR game.

    I got back into golf after a 15 year break. This body is no longer well oiled so i found it difficult and restrictive to move. 3 months later, im left with bad ingrained mechanics to my movements which im struggling to break

      I took a hiatus for about 6 or 7 years, too. When I came back, I really wanted to focus on keeping it simple, and now, I'm trying swing at about 60 percent effort. The wear and tear is real.

    This video is dead on. I have found that the less I focus on movements and distance, the better I hit it. My main goal is to remove as much tension as I can. You have to disregard distance to do that. Great video man!

    Missed you Chad. Hope all is well. Couldn’t agree more, we all need to be realistic with our carry distances and the only way to know is to track it. Golf is one of the sports that doesn’t have a defendant in front of you, so you’re really playing the course and not your playing partners. So play the course and ignore what others are doing. The only time you’re concerned about the other player is in Match Play. Always always play your game, you’re absolutely correct. Cheers.

    Keeping control of your your swing speed can be a constant struggle.
    For me, I need to keep saying to myself, 3 quarter swing speed keeps my “fairways hit” more consistent.
    It can be a relaxing game of frustration when you don’t stay within yourself.

    I don’t so much compare myself to others in my group. What I am guilty of (and just as dangerous) is comparing myself to how I used to hit the ball. I worked at courses during college and law school so I played a lot of free golf plus I was younger and stronger. I still have the same set irons, and I don’t hit them near as far as I used to. A radical example is I have one hole in one. It was 172 to the pin, and I hit an 8 iron. I probably hit my 8 iron maybe 140, 145 now if I really get on it. Between kids, not golfing as much (therefore not hitting the sweet spot as much), and just not being as strong as I once was, I mostly suck now. It’s hard to accept and play within my current abilities. I still want to get more consistent and hit it longer, but the distance I had 10-12 years ago is gone for good lol.

    Great advice Chad…my new mantra is “ course management!”. My thoughts now are I'm playing against “Old Man Par” ie.the course itself. I don’t care one hoot about what the other guys in my foursome are doing. If they are playing well I encourage them, if they’re playing poorly I encourage them, but I don’t let their success or failure influence me one iota. This attitude has now gotten me into a single digit handicap and I'm having a lot of fun without the stress. Cheers from Nova Scotia..MikeR.

    Trying to hit a ball far without actually knowing "how," is a recipe for disaster. Every physically able adult should be able to hit the ball at least 250 yards. 220 is totally unacceptable and clearly indicates a major problem in the use of the club. There's some good info here but the real solution is learning how the golf club actually works. Yes, there is a specific way and no, it's not common sense.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  3 месяца назад

      I agree with most of that, but we'd have to define what a physically able adult is. On the outside looking in, I might appear physically capable, as an example. But, I've got a pretty severely limited right wrist and, like a lot of people out there, overly worn joints from years of heavy labor. (Probably not helped by a less than ideal diet, too....) But, going beyond that, I've said plenty of times that understanding how the club needs to interact with the ball is a huge key, and should be one of the first things a person should learn when starting out. How the tool is used. Is that what you mean?

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf 3 месяца назад

      @@GolfTestDummy Yes, but almost no one knows how the golf club works or that they're using it improperly. One of my students, a middle age very capable guy, told me he couldn't hit the ball past 220 ... He recently sent me a picture from his launch monitor ... Now that he's using the club properly he's carrying the ball 270. Also, it's not so much of how the golf club interacts with the ball that makes it unique it's really more how it works with us - our arms, hands, and body.

  • @kingoneeyed3433
    @kingoneeyed3433 3 месяца назад +2

    I believe the main reasons most of us play badly is trying way too hard, failing to relax a take things easy, not letting the club do the work and total lack of rhythm and timing, Other than that we're all good.
