      Thanks Marcus, and I definitely will. I see progress each day with this test, and just last night, I was able to add speed with driver, and I've been trying to get that for months. Love the simple method, and really happy to see someone who isn't spewing complicated biomechanics. Just focusing on what you want the club to do.

    I told you so Chad!
    I like Marcus' honesty when he said, " If you want to fade the ball, go somewhere else, I hit a draw" The Driver technique he demonstrates to release early makes so much sense to me.

    Ive seen thousands and thousands of RUclips golf videos and teachers. This guy was the only one that put it in a way that is super simple and just makes a lot of sense. It was a little rough at first. There was definitely a lot of blocks and got into a case of the duck hooks but it took me about 2 months of going to the range to dial it in. For me the last key part that brought everything together was an open stance. I’ve always thought and been taught for a draw you need a close stance. With a close stance I was almost always duck hooking it. With the open stance it seemed that it was slightly harder to swing to the right but it closed the club face to the path. And the more I swung to the right the better the shot was .With that open stance it was almost always a slight push or a nice tight draw. Don’t get me wrong there are definitely still a lot of hooks and pushes but the timing gets better with practice. For me I got a little worse before I got better but stick with it. It works. It definitely works.

      I can identify with a ton of that. Especially the part about watching thousands of videos.

    Great that you are promoting Marcus golf swing ! Here my story: 68 years old lefty golfer with more than 60 years of ice hockey background. I just came back from Myrtle Beach ( winter 2024) were I spent one month at the driving range hitting a basket of golf balls almost every day using the slap shoot golf swing. I went from hitting 75% of my shoots slicing and big fade with the driver to about 5% . I am now hitting 60% draw and 35% small fade. I now carry the ball near 220 yards in the air from the usual 170 yards before using my new golf swing. Big bonus I gave up golf 4 year ago due to back problem because of golf ( bad swings) I did not have any issue even practicing every day for a month

    Marcus does have some very good stuff but there's an old instructional book (recommended to me by a teaching pro...who used it to go from a -2 to a plus 3 hcp...) that explains much of what he teaches and - IMHO - does it a lot better. The book is 'The Inside Path to Better Golf' (Kostis and Dennis, 1982, Golf Digest Books). He called it the "best almost completely unknown golf instructional book of all time". The book is not one of those "all inclusive" texts that tries to teach you every aspect of the game. Kostis simply leads you through 4 stages of learning how to convert your old slice to a strong draw.

    I love Marcus' video's, he's a great guy. I must admit, through years of using my body poorly, I found it extremely difficult to hit out to the right. I just couldnt seem to stall my rotation enough to get the hands and club moving in the right direction. The thing that helped me the most was putting my ball position way back of centre. Your interpretation of his method seems spot on and more than happy to hear your views. Great video, bud.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 года назад +1

      Thanks as always! Yeah, the ball position freaks a lot of people out, but you just have to get weird and try it. The problem is that we have so much conventional golf and accepted information programmed into us, it's hard to imagine other things.

    Coincidentally, I've been studying this guy for the last 3 weeks, as well. The big takeaway for me was letting the right hand provide the power (push) instead of pulling with the left hand. If you can relax enough to do this, you'll be amazed at the extra yardage. I'm still working on that. You will have a tendency to roll over with the right hand and pull it left, but we should be able to work that out.

    I've been following Marcus for a few weeks. He says it's hard, and u need to hit alot of balls. What attracted me was I have severe back pain when I swing thinking of my hips, with Marcus I don't have any, and although I'm still in the habit of swinging from out to in, I have had a few shots that were the best I've hit in my life from his method of throwing. I'm Canadian with alot of hockey experience so I just do my hockey swing as he says, and will eventually have a consistent effortless draw.

    I'm trying Marcus' method now, 1 week into it. I have regained lost yardage in all my clubs, as much as 10 yards. I takes a lot of work to change over from a "body" swing to an "arms and hands" swing. I hit balls on the range three times and I have played two rounds with this method and hit some really good shots. The bad shots come in my driver, hitting low duck hooks. It is not the fault of the method, it is the fault of years of using too much body rotation in the down swing. Since I am having success with this method, I will continue to work to slow my body rotation down and hopefully this will decrease the misses to the left (right handed golfer).

    Chad just found your channel via Marcus Edblad golf because a couple guys said they were sent there by you. I have been working on the Marcus Method for about a month now and I have found that if the lead shoulder tries to lead the downswing it starts rotating open too soon and then it is difficult to extend out to the right of the target line. So by keeping the lead shoulder quiet it allows for my arms and the club to extend to the right. Also there is a tendency in the beginning for the shaft to roll counter clockwise thru impact which will cause a hook. But if I lead with the heel of the club it keeps the toe up and prevents the hook. Hope these personal insights help your viewers.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 года назад +2

      Thanks Chris, and I know what you mean in both instances. For you, leading with the heel helps to get it right, but for me, I focus on getting the toe up and going toward the sky. Rather than letting it stay open or roll over.

      Haha, thanks, Wayne. I'm sorry to hear that, though. I think what you just summarized is a HUGELY common thing with golfers across all methods. I've experienced it many times. My theory is that we find something, it's fairly simple, it works for a time, and then, we try to oversimplify it AND, we have also created a new normal. Our frame of reference changes because now we're familiar with the "new stuff". It's a vicious cycle.

    I started Marcus way a month ago, I play from the back tees 2 times in a row, this thing works for me, just let it happen, the idea that the body aims to one place and the club swing out, trip my brain out big time, as it’s not what we have been though, but after 3 weeks of none stop, it makes sense , works for me, 75 from the back tees on a par 72, I take it, but just like every golf change, make sure you work on this while keeping what you got, you know how fast you can screw up your golf swing, taste it out on real time if it works great, I still working on it, but I still have my back up, which feels not natural but it works

    Got here from Marcus Edblad video (my Swedish golf coach). He is the best. Makes it look so easy. Don't slice anymore. Driver is hardest to master. After years of missing right swinging out there takes some guts to trust it coming back. So have used initially to straighten drives and slowly aiming further right. The magic I found in his videos was the hand movement Episode. I was definitely a lag dragger and a wrist rotator, that definitely caused my snap hook.

    This type of hand movement also helped with my driver. Now I'm just learning better ball positions and tee heights.

      @@GolfTestDummy Hey Chad, I just hit a big bucket of balls playing around with Marcus method, it’s gonna take time to go from a left sided controlled swing to this method. Marcus has a great video about the shoulders rotating on the plane where the ball is, it made me realize that most traditional teaching tells you to rotate your hips around you, us high handicappers have a tough time rotating our hips one way and our shoulders another. His method has no focus on the lower body, just the correct shoulder movement and not pulling the left hand through where the right hand can’t catch up and square the club face.
      Marcus is the only teacher I’ve seen who tells to take swings doing it the wrong way so you can feel the difference from the correct way.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  2 года назад +1

      That could be as a result of ball position and/or a rolling of the hands. It's also possible that you're moving forward, as in transferring weight, during the swing. I've got a video coming out Monday that should offer some insight. I get high ball flights, and I think it's a result of my weight and the way I go about it.

      I'm not sure where you ball position is now, but maybe. And starting with more weight on the trail foot and keeping it there, is one of the things that will be in Monday's video. Also, the toe up thing as well. The best way I can explain toe up is to either think about it matching your spine angle, or imagining that you're trying to hit the toe of the club on the bottom of a shelf or a table.

    Chad, I noticed that when you were setting up your feet were angled in an open to the target position. Meaning your lead (left) foot was farther back than your right foot. This position is the classic fade setup. For a draw, it would be easier if your lead foot was farther forward than your right, I.e., closed to target. This was you’re sure to swing out to the right for the draw. Also your club face also needs to be slight right of target. In other words, club face slightly right of target and path of swing a little farther right of club face.

    Marcus's swing is very unconventional . He does things that are very unique. The lowerbody pivot is full and text book. Regardless of what he feels he starts the downswing with the lower body and gets a weight shift. What you see in video is actually a rebound off the lead foot from pushing .He does things in his golfswing that would make Moe Norman say "WTF" ? Instead of starting 2 feet behind the ball at address he moves swing center up and away until his clubhead hovers 4 inches above the ball. Then what he does with the hands and arms throughout the swing is even more unique. His swing is very much in to out which explains his ball position. You have to admire the guy for such a unique and powerful swing . If not well that's just stupid. LOL

  • @timothypollock8358
    @timothypollock8358 2 года назад

    Well there's a lot of slight misunderstanding here in terms of what you he's doing in order to achieve his draw. I'll go on record as saying that I don't think that it's a particularly good swing but it works and is a lot better than many swings that are out there.
    His swing is quite Shane Lowry-like in the takeaway and the overall motion also has similarities. What you are doing is very different from what he is doing especially in the takeaway. However trying to extend out to right field later in your video got you into a slightly better copy of what he is doing. You do tend to swing out to the right somewhat naturally anyway and then you normally sort of pull down into the ball to hit it straight. It is noteworthy that Shane Lowry both is known for a bent lead arm and predominantly (almost exclusively) hits a draw.
    So if you really want to have his takeaway which is essential to what he is doing you need to bend your lead arm early and get the lead arm going up earlier while simutaneoulsy pulling the trail elbow back enough to start flipping the club up and around and pretty much right up and over and line with the lead shoulder and lead arm. This move allows a lot of quick early agressive wrist cocking while "flipping" the club head up and over and behind the lead shoulder. By the way, the bending of the lead arm in the early takeaway is very helpful in getting the arm and club moving up quickly and in flipping it around and behind the lead shoulder.
    This is why he can swing from the inside so much; because the club is aggressively cocked over the lead arm and as soon as he starts the lead shoulder down and inside out the club naturally and invariably follows it and then one can just control the release of the torso to release through and square the club from the inside. It is worth noting that when you swing like this, the motion of the upper lead arm is on a very tight arc (there is very little arm extension and reaching with the arms in this back swing) and thus if you watch him you can see that his lead upper arm moves up very quickly and just folds right under and across his chin.
    His takeaway arm motion is the reason he is able to swing inside out and maintain his hip distance from the ball through impact because that arm motion allows him to swing out to the ball. You are still moving closer to the ball because your arm motion does not resemble his and is still a version of your previous arm motion. Thus you are more tending to move the center line of your torso out towards the target line in order to try and replicate his draw motion rather than just moving the club out.
    If you could manage to replicate his actual arm motion it might help you to learn to swing down on plane from your across the line position at the top. If you want any further information to help you understand this, I'll be glad to offer you more input. Cheers.

      You took the long way around to tell me my swing is no good again. That I think I'm doing something, but I'm not, lol. I'm not trying to make my swing look like his. I'm trying to do what he says, which is an intention to swing across the line, with trail arm dominance, right? That's really the only prerequisite. Now when I get into a groove, and I've been swinging a bit, I can feel a bump with my body to let the arms start moving back, and the club feels like it lifts quickly with the bending of my trail arm. From there, my feel is to extend quickly down and let the club whoosh out and forward, with the toe up, leading the way to the sky on the other side.

      @@GolfTestDummy Well, I am speaking with the goal of getting you on plane and improving your technique as I have been all along. The way that he takes the club back puts the club across the line AND behind his turn down so he can swing OUT to the ball and keep his hips a fairly consistent distance from the ball. This is why he has the ball so far back because he can only swing out that much in the early downswing.
      Also this method will work for him with any club even one with a longerr shaft where he has to swing OUT but with a flatter plane. You can manage this with a 7-iron or so but I doubt that you will manage it very easily with a 3-wood or driver. As I have mentioned before, that length of club (7-iron) gives you the best chance of swinging on plane with your particular technique but it will be harder with a longer shaft and very hard with a 3-wood because of the precision of the angle of attack required.
      It is not merely trail arm dominance that is required; it is trail arm dominance with the shaft releasing on plane from far enough from the ball in order to release the toe of the club. In order to do that consistently through the bag, it will be necessary to be able to start down on plane and swing out to the ball with hips a fairly consistent distance from the ball and to do that using something like his method you need a takeaway like his. The real acid test of what he is doing is that he can produce a solid draw with his fairway woods. This is because he has, as I have mentioned to you quite a bit, width in front of his body in his takeaway. Because he is emphasizing the rear portion of the swing, he HAS to get the club up fast and inside in order to have width on the way down and be able to swing out to and through the ball with his arms so it's just another version of the same thing that I have been talking to you about in terms of width being what is required.
      If you try a driver and check the butt end of the club for plane while swinging OUT at the ball that is somewhat back in your stance like he does, you will find that the only way to swing on plane is to take the club away something like he does. If you swing back the way that you are, you will start down way off plane. In any case, you can try what you like but I am just trying to tell it like it is and ultimately help. Cheers.

      @@GolfTestDummy By the way, I just want to be clear that I would never say that your swing is no good both because that is mean and because it's just not true at all. Your swing has a lot of excellent qualities and many of them have continued to get better as I've watched you so I'm sorry if anything that I've said has given you that impression.
      Basically you are pretty darn close to having an excellent swing but are just held back by a few details. In fact, I think that the whole problem could largely be corrected by improving the relationship between the motion of your chest and your upper lead arm. In the best swings. the upper lead arm is constantly reflecting the changes in the shoulder turn as the lead moves down, around, etc. and the wrist cock works in accordance with those changes so that the lead arm becomes almost a direct reflection of the way that the lead shouder moves. This in turn puts the club shaft in position to be pulled down on plane.
      Your early takeaway motions tend to be out of synch with your shoulder motion and thus the club has to be somewhat dragged back into a reasonable striking position. You were doing a somewhat better version of that motion in your demonstration swings (like at 5:09) but perhaps need to do that and keep your chest down a bit more an get the club head moving up a little faster. When you actually swung, it was much more like your usual takeaway so I think that you just would need to get used to a takeaway that feels really different in order to fully fix the problem. Cheers.

      @@GolfTestDummy I also realized that when I said that it's "not a particularly good swing" that it could have sounded like I was talking about your swing. In fact, I was talking about Marcus' swing because I don't like the model of swing that it represents.
      Interestingly enough, I discovered that exact swing model when I was trying to understand exactly how the downswing works. I mean EXACTLY the same. It taught me a lot about how the club drops into the slot in the downswing and basically a more standard swing just moves a set of similar positions more towards the lead side of the stance but the mechanics of transitioning and dropping the club into the slot remain virtually the same however things end up looking quite different.
      I ruled it out as a potential candidate for a swing that I would promote because I felt that swinging out at the ball when it's back in the stance did not seem like a method with enough flexibility to accomodate different shots. However , it did occur to me that many individuals might find it easier to achieve a solid hit using such an approach. So it was interesting to find out about Marcus.
      If you understood that to mean your swing, I am sorry that I wasn't clearer in my comment. Cheers.
