More and more creators are leaving what may seem like the dream job pursue creating for themselves. Donut Media stars Jeremiah and Jobe have announced they have left to start their own channel. Donut faced hard times when the company was bought out by Recurrent.

It's not really "pushing agenda", just big company trying to squeeze as much money as possibly from the smaller company they bought by the way of putting business people who don't know shit about what the company in question is about (car enthusiast stuff in this case) in charge, thus ruining the reason the smaller company was worth buying in the first place.

James has BEEN slowly fading from the Donut face. Ever since High Low Subaru, he slowly just moved out the cam light. Like the Car History episodes of them going from Skyline to skyline. I reaaaly wanted it to be a way to bring back UP TO SPEED!!
Up to speed was the best and very informative
I always surprise my friends with the information I learned from up to speed.
Up to Speed tended to have a good number of errors that could be corrected with a simple Google search, but it was entertaining as heck and I’d be lying if I still didn’t use “hersp’ers” and “terks” when talking about engine numbers lol

I really feel sorry for Nolan and Justin as the last two main hosts left, and with Justin being relatively new. It seems they're holding on but not really liking their job. I look for Justin to move on pretty soon. He seems pretty relegated to just being the guy who loses the car-trivia games rather than the replacement or compliment to Jobe as the guy who actually knows how to work on cars.

He said on a podcast (not the donut podcast) that he didn't see himself staying at Donut too much longer. He said he's getting married and wants a kid. So I'm not surprised at all. Donut will probably end up like Roosterteeth.

Nolan and Aaron could start an Off Road channel, James and Jerry are gonna do street cars, they could divide and conquer. Donut ended when they stopped doing the videos WE love, science garage, up to speed, money pit…they’re just a different version of motor trend now. Wish them all the best

Donut should get back to their roots more. People don't tune in because the corporate production quality. They tune in for the topics and personalities. If they lose the personalities then even the topics won't bring the same crowd.
Cautionary tale for other big channels. Don't sell your channel to corporates who don't care about content and audience and only care about ad revenues and viewer numbers

Yeah I feel the same. With Jeremiah and Jobe gone, and James possibly gone in the future, the only one left that I consistently tune into would be Nolan.

It's probably another corporate decision to split all the popular hosts apart rather than oversaturate them on singular videos, that way they can get more work done. :-/

A few episodes/months/years back i saw Nolan and James sitting and casting together, but James always tried to keep his distance from Nolan as much as he could and Nolan was always pushed to the edge of the table away from James. Yesterday in my subscriptions I had the new Donut and Big Time video side by side. Big Time had 3X the views. It's clear what the fans want, and it's not the trash Donut has been putting out lately.
I unsubbed a couple of years ago when "up to speed" ended. Those two guys came on board around that time. I avoid overproduced channels with sponsor segments, so I didn't get much of an opportunity to see their stuff.

I only make that after a decade of work in my company. I guess California prices and salaries are much higher than the Midwest, though.

They sit on donuts channel (which they were allowed to post on) and pretend it’s peaches and creamville all they want, the big dogs were definitely using some shady business practices. A friend of mine recently left a brand he was a large part of because he was promised proof of equity for months and months, finally the last time he asked the company said it would “be best to part ways”. I feel something similar happened here

James is one of unique character on Donut which has great influence. Try comparing videos with and without (two or more host in it) James.
I haven't been keeping up with the Past Gas Podcast recently, but I've noticed James hasn't been on the last four episodes and instead they've had guest hosts.
To me James is like that one weird and crazy but cool uncle who gives you awesome gifts and loves to get his hands dirty. I miss the days of James being legit emotional in his Up to Speeds and other videos, like when he was crying over the deaths of Carrol Shelby and Ken Miles. And also when he was yelling "MO POWAH BABY," "LIGHTNING," and "BUFF HORSES." He's the face of Donut Media and I can't imagine the channel without him. If the rumors of James leaving are actually true, that would really be a big blow to the channel, and in about a few weeks from now not even half of the Donut cast will be recognizable.
For reference, I started my first job at 20k.... Canadian. 60k IS a lot of money.

James became part of the corporate entity that owns Donut --- or he's creating his own channel. He definitely gives me the vibe of the talent that goes corporate ala Triple H
Typical agreements ask that important brand spokesmen or executives make regular appearances for a certain amount of time after a buyout. Notice how his last few feature videos focus on him making big purchase… he got a small windfall. James is probably just doing the minimum to get his corporate money. If the guy has continuing health problems, the Hollywood grind is probably too much for him. 💖James Pumphrey forever. He’s doing the right thing thing for his situation.

I know Donut allowed Zach and Jerry to plug their channel at the end of the last Ranger video, but it does seem like James is probably on the verge of leaving, possibly to join BigTime or start his own thing.

Bro definitely made a lot more as a biomedical engineer maybe that’s why he sounded so sad about it lol. _Starting_ 60k when no one really knew who Jeremy was, is fine imo. Later on though when he was in a lot of videos, he definitely made more and I want to see that contract because he never mentioned his latest salary before leaving lol. Not knocking down on Jeremy or anything. I like him. He’s very likeable. It’s just as a dude who grew up in LA, grew up broke and was broke for a lot of years in their 20s, I feel like Jeremy the type of dude who never really experienced living in a 3 bedroom single family house filled with 3-4 families on rotation 😂.

This isn't a surprise... it's not their channel so they don't get creative freedom. It'd been like this for a very long time in the TV industry as well. I'm glad it's about time they figured it out and do their own thing.
