  • In this vlog, I give you a detailed walk-around of my 1986 Yamaha Rajdoot RD350 HT, a classic motorcycle, almost a vintage motorcycle, and one of the most loved 2-stroke motorcycles from the tuning forks manufacturer from Japan. This is a cult motorcycle in India, also known as the Rajdoot 350.
I talk about my long-term ownership review and experience of over 16 years with this motorcycle. You will learn about the history of the RD350, the technical specs of my RD350, the RD350 drag racing scene in India, RD350 spare parts, my motorcycle philosophy, my love affair, and history with this motorcycle.
I walk you through how I got introduced to it, what makes the RD350 different from the older generation of Yezdis, Jawas, and Royal Enfields, as well as trivia about its production run in India. I also show you some old advertisements from the international market as well as the Indian market - some of the iconic ads on the RD350. I touch up the vast RD series lineup from Yamaha from the RD125, RD200, RD250, RD350, RD400, RD500. You will also learn about some of the differences between the US Spec, HT, and LT models of the Indian versions.
Turn up the volume or use headphones to listen to the hair-raising soundtrack of this beast with its addictive exhaust note and watch me take it for a short spin.

Please use stock air filter box, these pod filters are prone to suck all sorts elements and reduce engine life.

Ive been using UNIs for close to 2 decades now. If they are maintained in good condition the UNIs keep the carbs clean and the engine in good condition.

Those roads look insane, no traffic rules?

    • @alroymenezes
      @alroymenezes  6 месяцев назад

There are rules but in India not many follow them unless the police are present and actively enforcing them. Its a free for all but we have mastered the art of navigating through chaos - organized chaos of sorts. In a country of over a billion people it is bound to be this way. Can seem extremely scary to people used to driving/riding in a country with organized traffic that follows rules and where people display more civic sense. Where are you from?

@@alroymenezes I watched the video again. Here's what happened. When the switch was made to LT (actually LeTi - Low end Torque improved). The initial batch had the 347 inscription but had a 4mm thick plate riveted to the top of the Exhaust port. The silencers were, at this point stil HT type.
The dead giveaway is the gap between the Head and the top cooling fin of the block.
      The gap is larger.
Finally, if you want to confirm, if you open the head for a de-carb, the head will have the number 73 in the part number. That's an LT. If it's am HT the part number has 52 in it.
Later LTs have riveted plates on either side of 347 with the word "RAJDOOT"
The last lot had only the Escorts symbol.
The reason I'm interested is that there is very little academic info on the bikes.
My compliments on the very well articulated video.
As a fellow owner (HT and 1979 import) I can identify with your sentiment.

      Some more interesting stuff.
      1. The largest drums are on the Yezdi 350 twin at 200mm (I have one of those too). RD was 180mm
      2. Our front drum was from the R5.
      3. The R5 also lacked the 7th port and was rated at 30 bhp.
      4. Our LT probably had the portmap of the German restricted version. Their law requires the power on first level bike license to be 20kW or lower. Which equated to 26.8 bhp. The LT was 26.5 bhp.
      5. Hi octane petrol, IMHO won't be needed. Our compression is never going to breach 10:1.
      6. If been happily using Mak 2T for 23 years now. Any JASO or API compliant 2T oil will suffice.

Thank you for your feedback. Will try to make more shorter format videos - in my defense this more than a walk-around - it is about my 16 year ownership experience with my RD as well the production history of this cult motorcycle that I have spent many years dreaming and learning about before I bought it.
