This episode is one of my all time favorites. Crazy Joe DaVola was such a great character. The best part was when Jerry and Elaine are outside of the opera and suddenly realize they're both talking about the same person. Seinfeld at it's best
I think this scene shows all the strength in Elaine's character. She manages to hide her fear and play cool even though she is pretty scared... the writing and the acting in this show (aside from Seinfeld himself) is amazing.
Agreed and I always thought how Elaine’s character evolved toward the end of the run to be kind of a slap in the face to the already established character. I don’t think this Elaine would have turned into the jaded, bitter, and somewhat soulless Elaine we see by the end of the series. It just didn’t fit for her, even when it made sense for the guys. But then again by the end the whole show was a caricature of the earlier seasons.
The blend makes it even funnier. I laugh not because of the laugh track but because the actors are in a tense situation but the way they react to it is funny.
Just like rewatching Michael Jordan highlights and you have new appreciation how great he was, watching these Seinfeld reruns, you realize how great the show really was.

Two things come to mind whenever I see this. 1) How brilliant is Julia in this scene? She's as close to perfect as you can get. And 2) In the non-sitcom aka real world, Crazy Joe would have faced criminal charges for stalking Elaine and attempting to imprison her.
Sadly no. As Dostoyevsky once wrote in Crime and Punishment: 'It's very hard to prove an assault'. Elaine would have either had to be seen entering his apartment/leaving it at the time of the assault or have some kind or tape recorder/witnesses around. But yeah Elaine plays it very well.
@@ModMokkaMatti Believe me, I have considered it. Especially due to all the creepy people who admit to grooming, whom I run into while I'm playing Old School RuneScape

I’m seriously terrified by this episode lol. Being someone that faced stalking made this a real trigger. I’m so glad Elaine was able to run! Though I didn’t think the episode had a closure. I was so tense by the end of it, expecting crazy Joe to appear
It was daring for a comedy show to go this dark. Really, the whole Davola arc walked a fine line. It ends with him attempting to murder the show's title character. I think if I saw through an open door a shrine to myself on the wall, I'd make the U-turn right then, rather than going in for a closer look, but I'm not in a thriller, or a sitcom that has briefly become one.
Well seconds earlier Elaine was infatuated with Joe as they really hit it off and she really wanted to go to The Opera with him. Then only seconds later she realized he was a nut job obsessed with her, so she was pretty caught off guard and in disbelief looking at the pictures of herself on the wall.
Yeeeah that was the clincher. She goes from talking her way out of it mode to "ok it's mace time" at that point, even before Joe says "you're not leaving".
I swear half the people I meet are like this dude, uncomfortable silences, weird questions, no social graces. I stay the hell away from then once I get their vibe.
This is why Seinfeld is so great. It's Jerry as the "perfect example" (mostly) and the further away from him it gets the characters get crazier and scarier. In this scene he has almost removed the show from comedy. Elaine AND the show is taking a tour into a scary movie. Hannibal Lecter meets the crew. As she rushes out she takes the show back to safety. Another character that is far out is Georges father. To me this is like an artist who is an expert on oil paintings, but he might as well be doing any other technique. So he does a different type of painting, he carves in stone just to show off. And it's brilliant.
Too much thinking on your parts. It's things we all have nightmares about and frighten us. Dealing with some psychopaths and making it funny cos we can get out of the situation on tape
