This was absolutely epic to watch. Listening to all the information and call outs whilst taking in the entire picture of what you were dealing with was brilliant. The hornet is a fantastic dogfighter in DCS, one of the few aircraft I can actually use effectively air to air. Great stuff Tim!

DUDE! watching you fight along with your commentary really makes the difference. Here the average every man gets the chance to see hear and almost feel what it's like to be in the cockpit with you. I enjoy the micro management of systems inside the cockpit as well as your head being outside at the same time. A real treat to experience.

  • @larryboothby3687

At slow speed and above 20 units of alpha your rudders have huge authority to roll the jet it works really well if you are coming over the top at really low speed. You can stomp a rudder and the jet just rotates the nose to point anywhere. Great for a 9x shot from above. 380 kts is kind of the sweet spot to get a good rate, and a small turn circle. G-limiter will keep your max G down until you burn off a bunch of fuel. When you select gun the radar goes to wide scan ACM mode. Forward Castle switch slaves the radar bore site to the helmet. You have to hit the switch every time it drops the lock. Aft castle for vertical scan mode. You can pull massive alpha without a departure but you pay with airspeed. It can force an overshoot if the guys is about to gun you. You can drag him into a low speed scissors. Just mind your altitude. The jet is controllable even at 70 kts, but will be descending at high alpha.

Davies, question: What do you think of these military simulations in regards to their representation of reality? I'm a games developer, but also have an interest in the air force and army (including army service). I'm interested in whether you think these are valuable training assets? It's always been my opinion that if the military could get over it's unhealthy relationship with the word 'game' it would have a lot of benefit from exploiting this kind of tech.

Man, those "guys" are bots. You didn't defeat them, actually. They allowed you to win.

Happy days Tim, put on the brakes he will fly right by.....You’re gonna do what?

No brakes - you loose too much energy and become a sitting duck. Keep the energy and trade space in another dimension, try a barrel roll. Brakes only for emergency prevention of overshoot but the barrel roll is still better.

@@staubsauger2305 Ha, I think you missed my point...... English humour. (It’s a quote from Top Gun 1 as were my other comments. Squadron Leader Tim Davies needs no tips from me)

Hi Tim, I fly with RafAirUK and we're looking forward to flying with you, this is a link to a full playlist on the DCS F/A-18C Lot 20 Hornet (ruclips.net/p/PL3kOAM2N1YJc5x-z99XdX-XxWg4I0Of-a ) , this includes everything however pick and choose the videos you see fit, there are more than enough pilots in RafAir OCU to help you learn the Hornet as well. Have a great day!
