Hats off to NBC for covering such a great event as Pennsic! For those of us who were there, you did a great job. You even got Duke Cuan wearing a linengarb Coptic tunic.
Pennsic is a magical place. I've been 26 times, have made life-long friends and have experienced things that just don't happen in the mundane world. My first War, a heavy fog rolled in one night and blanketed the entire campground in mist. It lasted for hours. I walked around in the darkness, looking at the firelight and torches and listening to the sounds of Pennsic. It was Pennsic 19 and it was incredible. I didn't want to leave!
I'm Sir Trentus of The East. I am leader of the East Kingdom Fast Reaction Unit. I pride myself on knowledge of tactics. I say this because one year, I got swept up in romance and asked my girlfriend to marry me on the first day of Pennsic. I was on my knees before I realized what I had done. A second later, the thought occurred to me that if she says "no", I'm gonna have to run and get me a nylon tent to sleep in for two weeks. 🤣. Congratulations on your 20+ years.
I have been going to Pennsic sense I was about a month old and I'm 11 now. Pennsic to me is not just a thing I go to for fun it has become a part of my life I grew up at Pennsic the people of my camp are my family the adults remember me as the little girl who has always been there the one who never grew up they know me as the little Tori Bean. Most people think its stupid but you don't know what its like until you actually go. When I go I get to escape all the things going on in the real world and just forget about reality for a WEEK (or two) PENNSIC IS THE BEST!!😄 And I'm SOO happy I'm happy I get to go Friday!!!!😄😄😂😂CANT WAIT ANYMORE

I would love to know one way or the other at least. I only ask because using the SCA web contacts for the Outlands has yielded nothing so far.Thank you for your time in this matter, and may you have a wonderful adventure!
I first read about Pennsic in the 6th grade (1975). It was in the St. Paul Pioneer Press and I had to bring a newspaper article to school for some assignment. I have never forgotten how wondrous it sounded. And though I finally got to play with the SCA as an adult, I have never been to Pennsic. *sigh* Perhaps, one day...
I've been to pennsic almost every year for the last 25 years it is the most fun. Aside from seeing all of my friends together I am at heavy armored fighter and squire in the SCA. Armored fighting is definitely the second best thing you could do with your time.
Great video, I've seen my very own squire Rafael in the beginning of the video to Duke Cuan, who as a great King, Knighted me ten years ago. I myself was made squire on that very battlefield, and belted my own squire not far from that same spot. Also taking the prize in the only turny I've ever won ,just an arrows shot from the same clump of grass of that very same field.
I have been involved in the SCA for over 20 years (SCA name is Lady Rose Bobyth). Fun group for adults and kids! And it is pronounced that it would rhyme with Law not skate.
Wow, I am surprised that there are no comments. I wish I had the time to devote to SCA. I guess I'll have to keep up with roleplay games, renfairs, and medieval literature fiction and non-fiction
Ded Hampster The SCA is something you can give as little or as much time as you want to. Some people attend just a couple of events a year, other people are at events almost every weekend and at workshops the weekends they aren't at events. I personally attend 12-15 events a year, including Pennsic. Go to SCA.org and find your kingdom and look up events. If you dress up for the renfairs, you can wear your renfair garb (just don't wear anything crown-like or a white belt because there are rules about those things) to an event to check it out.
Yep. The classes! You might be surprised how many of them DO relate to modern times. They are skills we have LOST through the ages; we no longer understand how something is made, or why. Yes, I own a lighter, for instance. But I'm wicked fast with a flint and steel. I'm unarmed. But I've studied hand-to-hand combat with "found objects" and I can do pretty well with a trash can lid and a pipe. There IS real-world application. You find youself homeless; what do you do? I thank the GODS that I had the skills I learned to take care of myself with little to nothing. Sure, I liked camping....but it's not recreation when it is forced on you. I can't WAIT to "go home" to Pennsic! I have a WHOLE new respect, and love, for the group.
That moment you can only remember 2 times the SCA has been mentioned on NBC news in the last 5 years, one of them being good & the other being an accident in which someone died in such a horrible way, so out of the ordinary that everyone had to know about it... My parents knew him, they had known him for nearly 30 years before he was stabbed by his own lance at an event with many there to see.
u can probably google for local groups and contact them by email or something :) they're pretty much always super welcoming no matter where you're from

We don't claim to be reenactors, that's a news-ism. We allow people to do as much or as little as they want, while encouraging more when they can accomplish it. Everyone has different lives and different abilities.
"Death is not permanent" "Every single person in the SCA can be a hero" , yeah I was all in until they said this. I will explain this now: 1. "Death is not Permanent" This is a bad idea, if death is not permanent it will take a major glory off of killing a specific person. Respawning in game is a bad idea, but your character does not have to disappear, unless you somehow actually get a spot on a top position, like a king or lord. So if you die another person can take your place, by what ever means is chosen (this might also bring a more strategic view point on the head people of a nation, now bringing politics into play). This will make it so people if the king, lord, ect do there job well people will actively try to not let those people die, making them you know "important". That is how to fix that problem. 2."Every single person in the SCA can be a hero" This is not a good thing, for if everyone is a hero; no one is. You don't be a hero by just showing up, you must earn it! You must must do something great, maybe fight well, be in the game for a long time, or something. If everyone thinks there a special little snowflake the game will not be as in depth as it could be. Some times it is good to be no one, and if you want to change that, then do it, find something you are good at and do it. These are my issues with this, and my fixes for them, and I can go in more depth if anyone asks. If you have answers or questions I will answer too.
