Yay you are awesome! Thank you so much for your presence in the vlog and for sharing the chalkboard. It's such a cool and useful project. I had fun chatting with you and hopefully I'll see you again next time!
This was Barb-Hah-Rah's last Gulf Wars, so there is some bittersweet memories there. She is still doing well and I do see her regularly, she is simply not up to the drive or the camping anymore.
Oh hey I’m the dummy fighting with a glaive in the Rose tourney. Thanks for sharing, I loved the chance to see some of the other pieces of the SCA that I don’t interact with yet!
Yay! Thanks for entertaining us all with your fighting, and hope you had a great time. There is so much, it can take a while to get to everything, but hey, at least we'll never be bored, right?
I just renewed my membership. This is my second year belonging to the SCA, and hopefully there will be more meet ups in person in my area. I moved here a year ago and hoped to meet people through the SCA, but it's all had to be virtual due to the plague.
Welcome! And I hope you get to meet some cool people in person soon as well. I think the enjoyment will only grow with meetups! We have some super cool people and plenty of interests and hobbies to enjoy.
so happy to see the strawberry dress in action (i love this dress) and to see these events taking place again! thanks for taking us along, looked like it was so much fun...
It was super fun! Really amazing to be back in person and at this event, no less. I was very excited to wear the strawberry dress. It was great for one of the cooler days - made it through the whole day and even to a party at night!
I normaly watch historical sewing vidoes, but then a channel I was watching had a video on going to a renactment event and I loved it. So from there I came here because the youtube suggentions were very right in that I wanted to see more of this, and I loved every moment. I loved seeing outfits from all the diffrent times and places, and seeing hoe people would put nerdy twists on them! I loved seeing the buildings! I loved all of it! Thank you for this video. It had be smilling the whole way through.
WOW - that was amazing to see. Thank you for sharing so much of the event. I have heard of such societies but have only gone to the NY Renaissance Faire here in the tri-state area. While I love it (and you see everything from truly historically accurate costumes to just plain cosplay) it's nowhere near as detailed as that camp! They do have (at the NYRF) a section that's been growing - I think it's Norse in theme - where you see a "family" building, making and tending to "life" in those times - and then there is a storyteller - to share the history with anyone who wants to learn. Glad you had a great time at the event and thank you again for sharing!
I'm so glad you enjoyed coming along! SCA and Ren Faires definitely have a crossover crowd and interests but of course developed into different focuses, and you get a much different atmosphere with a participants-only volunteer structure in the SCA. The NYRF section with the storyteller and all sounds really cool! I'd love to see it if I ever make it up that way.
Here I am, prepping for Gulf Wars 2023, just now seeing this vlog! It brought back so many wonderful memories of my first ever Gulf Wars! Thank you! (I even found myself in the opening ceremony 😄) Moira of Kent - West
Although Pennsic is just a few hours away from my home. It’s not easy to get time to go each year. I attend everyday decade, like a locust. It’s a goal to get to Gulf wars some time. Yay Aethelmearc!
Thank you so much for this.. it's been 4 yrs since we've been to Gulf Wars and I can't wait until we can go back! It's a long trip from Ealdormere, but worth it. :)
It is a worthy trip when it's possible! I'm so lucky to live closer to GW now than I ever have before. I'm wanting to get back out to more wars in other places as well!
I sent the video to Sir John Paul.. the Trimarian Knight singing at 29:38.. he hadn't seen the video and was supper happy you included him.. very nice video overall.. thanj you for posting.
Thank You for sharing this video, with all the Known World. We attended Gulf Wars XXX and it was best described as: an SCA Known World family reunion of lots of laughter, hugs, happy participation in lots of things and memories to last a lifetime!
the SCA looks so cool! i just checked out their website and found what my region is called, the whole thing is so cute!! my barony doesn't have any events though :(
It is super cool! Keep checking, some regions have started up more events and in-person meetings than others. Check for the hospitaler or chatelaine and email them to let them know you are interested, and they will make sure you have the right local resources to get started. There may still be online options to meet some folks from your local group as well. Would love to see you at an event or a war one day!
I'm watching this video trying to generate energy to finish packing for Pennsic and it's so cool to see people I know having such a wonderful time! I squeeled out loud when I saw Hirsch wearing the arming shirt I helped make him. Thank you for capturing these moments! I couldn't go to Gulf, but now I'm so excited for Pennsic!
I use Tobe in Calafia (San Diego) I miss it but got sick and live in Alaska and there isn't much up here. Coolest time of my life. Went to Estrella a couple of times 😊
Thank you for this video. I've always been interested but never knew of anyone that took part in this! I'm totally going to have to contact someone in our Kingdom. 😊
So happy that you got to go to an event and meet up with friends. I loved getting to see the fiber crafts and the sciences, and the wood and metal artisans. I liked that there were not only European but some Asian displays. Loved the smocking. Your outfits all looked great, my fav was the Minoan.
Auntie Bridget! I miss you lady! I wish I can go to Gulf War one of these days! I love the SCA, it's the only time I feel comfortable in my own skin and actually feel pretty in my clothing., the one time I can be an Extrovert and have some form of confidence.
This was wonderful! I had no idea this was going on. I'm so happy you let us experience this event with you. I would love to see this in person one day :)
It was my pleasure to bring you along! If you ever get to go, it's super fun! There are SCA Wars and other events all over the place, definitely worth checking out!
Most shields a aircraft aluminum. The Weapons are foam tip for thrusting weapons and are mainly Rattan as are the swords. Oddly enough Rattan is the same weight as their steel historical weapons. 3-5 Pounds. I have been in battles with 1,300 fighters some evenly matched one was 500 vs 800. They are divided by the Kingdoms from which they live in today. So different counties can be fiefs as well as geographic locations. These are part of the larger Nations and they have regular "wars" with other kingdoms. To be the King, Prince, Duke, Knight and Squire you must win a regularly held dual for that honor. There are female titles and they to can compete in combat to become the leader of any district or region by skill at arms there are NO restrictions outside of armor and weapon safety. This may have changed but it's all meant to bring the best of the ancient worlds and the best (disguised) modern world items. We cook on gas, we use coolers in short we go camping with a theme. I've seen a Roman legion encampment that goes totally in. The only Modern thing you could see was a little plywood. They ate using the tools Roman Society's standard tools. They even created a Roman Bath. Like I said, "All In".
Insulting fencers is a bad idea. Rapier nerd trashing “mundane collegiate fencing” is asking to get four centuries of advancement in technique unleashed on them. One reason to go to a good fencing club is you learn every weapon in history. He should try it.
It's fun, but PLEASE do NOT call it "historical reenacting", because it's not. At best it is a LARP game with no rules for character creation, but strict rules for combat, for people who like medieval and medievalish things.
Hey...that's ME...talking about our little chalkboard for the shower. :) Thanks for the brief interview!

They go hard. I respect that.
This was Barb-Hah-Rah's last Gulf Wars, so there is some bittersweet memories there. She is still doing well and I do see her regularly, she is simply not up to the drive or the camping anymore.
What a beautiful song. It made me cry as well. What a wonderful tribute.
It was a tear jerker for sure!

My first Pensic was V. So...there's that. There's always time.

Thank you, it was so fun! I too love seeing various regions represented, for the world is vast and full of amazing art.
Re-visiting your wonderful video as I prepare for Gulf Wars XXXI, I'm excited!
been years since I've been to gulf.. would love to go again someday
Glad you had a good time at Gulf Wars. I'm one of those Nova folks and was pleased you got part of our camp.
Yay!! The camp looked so good! I hope you had tons of fun at war!
Auntie Bridget! I miss you lady! I wish I can go to Gulf War one of these days! I love the SCA, it's the only time I feel comfortable in my own skin and actually feel pretty in my clothing., the one time I can be an Extrovert and have some form of confidence.
It was so nice meeting you at war. I still really love that strawberry dress.
It was so nice to meet you too! The strawberry dress might be my favorite medieval project ever - it's so fun!
Yes! I love some of those folks!
When I went I camped with early perioid
The long haul was built by mad dog.
I think I might love all of these people. This was so great!
I've never been, but I REALLY enjoyed your video. I'll have to look into next years event
This looks like such a great time. Being new to SCA I have lots to learn. But have met some truly amazing friends! 🎉❤😊
THAT'S MY QUEEN!!! Her Majesty Thorkatla 👑😍
Yay!!! We are actually connected through real life as well, and she is so awesome!
@@DaisyViktoria She really is! So knowledgeable about so many things, and such a quick wit. 😁
lol. I spy my viking ship. I think I also got a photo of you in the strawberry dress for the Gulf Wars social media page, thanks again!
Yay! The ship was so cool!! And thank you so much for taking my photo for the page!
Your outfits are amazing looking, I will be going to Pennsic 50 as my first war
Thank you for posting. I couldn’t go so I appreciate seeing this so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video. I hope to make it there in 2023. Take care! 😀
This looks awesome - we're based in the United Kingdom so it's cool to see what other systems are like in other countries! :)
This was wonderful! I had no idea this was going on. I'm so happy you let us experience this event with you. I would love to see this in person one day :)
It was my pleasure to bring you along! If you ever get to go, it's super fun! There are SCA Wars and other events all over the place, definitely worth checking out!
It was so lovely to meet you and run into you again and again! -Hilde
Hilde! It was soooo awesome to meet you again and again! I hope our paths continue to collide! 😍
This looks like so much fun!
It is super fun and so cool to be back in person!
I can't make it this year, so I hope you do another vlog!
A wonderful insight in an event i only have heard about.

We used to say SCA combat was an activity where you could kill your friends and kiss your enemies.
Aw I wish I could have made it with you! I’ll have to represent Calontir another year at Gulf 😊
We shall all look forward to your presence in the future!
@@DaisyViktoria thank you!!! You looked absolutely fantastic, by the way 😊 I loved how you wore a different era every day

How do I get connected to these? I am a single pringle who has always wanted to have friends that love this kind of stuff. Help a sister out please
Are the buildings permanent or are they assembled and removed every year
They are permanent and have grown over time!
One day we should event together.
That would be most excellent!

I'm telling my offspring this is real footage from the gulf war!
