As a Western Australian, the only reason why our GDP per capita is so high is because we have the most mines in the country, and this is what brings Australia its wealth. The average Western Australian is not as rich as the average eastern states Australian.
I think Western Australian are richer in culture, I don't need to use tonal languages to communicate with them.
Anyone can just go earn 150k a year in WA without going to uni or getting a trade, the average west Australian is probably better off
@@baconliontigers985 anyone in any other state of Australia could do that as well. They just have to fly a further distance. Other than mining jobs, west aussies are definitely not better off
There’s plenty of minerals to mine all over Australia, not just in WA, but the regulatory regimes are far more onerous. If you want a higher GDP per capita in Victoria and Tasmania, get off the hose!
Australia is just one big quarry with minerals everywhere. There are more mines outside of WA and more mining income is generated outside WA. It was only recently that for a couple of years export income from coal (mainly from NSW and Qld) exceeded export income from iron ore (mainly WA). Though you're correct in that as WA has a small population the influence of mining income on GDP is much greater.

How can the ACT be so highly ranked? It produces nothing but hot air.
no idea
Overpaid bureaucrats and politicians.
Hot air is apparently expensive commodities 😅
Politicians are well paid
I’m a Canberren. Although politics is a part of the ACT the vast majority of us is not involved in bureaucracy. Most politicians and their staff are of course spread all over the country and are only in town during sitting time. The success of the economy is a healthy mix of educational services, financial, legal, scientific, health services, hospitality, consultancy and even logging and yes the public service sector as well.

How about GDP per average temperature in degrees Celsius? Or GDP per Test Cricket scores? Or GDP per Olympic medals for swimming? And don't forget the cash economy.

Australian state government debt as % of GDP is much lower than Canadian provinces. NSW is 17% Ontario is 39%. Victoria is 23%. Quebec is 40%.

Australia and just about every state is in deep debt.
So are all provinces in Canada
So are every countries in the world. Name one which isn’t in debt.
Compared to most other countries Australia has very little debt for its size. Aus debt to GDP is around 40% while US debt to GDP is 120%, most of Europe has over 100%, even China has over 70%
