The only way I can describe the styles of these movies 2014-not exactly 54 but more like 84 Kong Skull Island-akin to the Toho and 70s Kong movies smooshed together KOTM-Mid Heisei era GvK-Early Showa GxK-Late Showa
The parts where Kong is hanging around with the orangutan kid. Where some of my favorite moments in the movie. It felt I was watching a monster-verse version. Of the newer God of War games.
When Kong and Suko where traveling together in the hollow earth it looked like a level straight out of Donkey Kong country to the point sang the jungle hijinks theme
I loved it It brought me back to the Showa and Heisei era of Godzilla, because the Heisei era had some ridiculous moments too. I mean there was a Timetravel storyline in the Heisei era.
It was really a big roller coaster ride and I can accept it a lot, I loved Godzilla and Shimo a lot but I wished they had more screentimes if they had more luck in the future.
Im glad to have two new Godzilla movies with different takes on the character our within the span of a year! Its like how in 2008 us Batman fans got both The Dark Knight and Batman the Brave and the Bold! They were both different but cool in their own right! One was dark, serious, and a solo Batman movie, where as the other was lighthearted, campy, fun, and a cross over series!
I enjoyed it. Basically almost like a big tag team wrestling match of kaijus. Especially the one scene where Godzilla suplex's Kong. Like you I still think kotm is stil thel best of the films
Adam Wingard confirmed that he wants to make a serious Godzilla centric movie in the future. So imagine going from a Showa like fun movie to a serious Heisei era Godzilla movie. If he actually does make it, I will be very excited.
This one was just a little too “out there” for my personal taste. I still enjoyed the movie, but I feel like course correction is needed for the future of the series. Some quick things I wanna share: 1) I completely hated the idea of Kong having a power glove, yet I felt like it was fine within the context of the film. Especially the way the humans talk about it. 2) Scar King and shimo were kinna DOA for me. They never actually feel like a major threat to Kong or Godzilla. I kinna felt like Godzilla had no business fighting shimo. 3) Shimos story needed some more breathing room. The whole “she’s being controlled” thing could’ve been cool if we had a little more time with it. 4) I love Godzilla, but this probably just should’ve been a Kong story. ‘Zilla feels kinna just shoved into the picture. Still enjoyed it for the most part, and will give it another go. Probably the weakest of the series, but still fun. I really enjoyed Gvk, but KOTM was peak monsterverse for me.
Yeah wingard is a Godzilla fan alright. But he did a better job with King Kong this time around. He gets victories on his own this time and even when Godzilla pins him to the ground, it's not done in a humiliating way like gvk. We need to remember that King Kong's goal was to recruit Godzilla, not defeating him Then of course there's the part where he actually pummels Godzilla to almost full unconsciousness. So wingard still likes Godzilla more, but I'm at least happy this time around King Kong showed his worth
Aight, look. I am going to challenge the notion that it is a Kids Theme Park Ride. A more accurate saying is that it is a Pure Unadulterated Stoner Movie. This movie demands to be watched on high amounts of Mushrooms and LSD
I still have no intention to watch this movie, as my hunch was correct. It IS just one giant toy commercial, just like Batman and Robin. Sorry, bud, but that's just how I feel.
When you watch anime and a lot of them, "turning off your brain" is no longer easy feat, I need more than just fighting scenes, which what this movie offer is barely mid by the ways, if that's the case then i should just invest time on this skibidi toilet thing the children are so into

Thanks for the review , I just watched it earlier and I honestly had a blast , it was so fun that I immediately planned on rewatching it soon
When Kong and Suko where traveling together in the hollow earth it looked like a level straight out of Donkey Kong country to the point sang the jungle hijinks theme
I loved it

This was a live-action shonen anime.
We need dinosaurs in the Monsterverse and that would make me really happy. Seriousness and Campy can be welcoming for Kaiju and I love it very much.
Suko better have a bow in the next movie.
*"BOY!"*
God of Kong

You hit the nail on the head in the Batman movie comparisons. Exactly what I thought too.
We getting it with Robert Pattinson Batman and James Gunn Batman

I think comparing it to Showa series is better example for me and I fucking love this movie like I had a blast with this movie!
I even enjoyed watching it in Cinema, and it was awesome.
It even took my mind off Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (that I'll be seeing in December).
Definitely my favorite monster verse movie

All the kids did a standing ovation in mine lol it made me laugh

The Son of Kong you referred is Suko while Shimo/Shimu is a female iced titan and yeah 🙂

If American Godzilla movies are this bizarre, I wonder how insane American Ultraman is gonna be.
The mini kong is called suko and the ice kaiju is shimo
Nerd cage is gonna despise this lol
15:54 funny because their is a giant robot in the Godzilla x Kong prequel comic.
1:45, 2:03, 4:28, 6:14, 7:35, 8:13, 9:34, 10:26, 12:36, 15:01, 16:18, 17:21, 18:40, 20:52, 22:00, 22:56, 24:05, 25:03, 25:33, 25:59 and 26:23
They had Godzilla put his foot on Kong's chest again? Wingard hates Kong. He's constantly humiliating him.

I didnt like the tone of this film. Its really cartoonish. Everything was bright, colorfull & over the top. This is a monster film not a marvel movie
