You can really see the difference. My 10 year old was helping my old ass on tee work the other day. I went from exit velocity of 80-82 off the tee to 85 -87 using a wood bat in a matter of 20 minutes He was showing me just this.
This is the exact same thing I’m trying to get my 10 year old boy to understand. He pushes the knob down to the ball. He misinterpreted getting your hands inside the ball. Shame on me for not recognizing this earlier. Almost there though. Thank you for the great information on all of your videos!
The thing I see the most is that his hands/wrists are cocked more in the improved version. While in the original version, his hands are already a bit opened up during his approach and before contact.
I am so glad I found you. I have been preaching the mechanics of the elite level swing on my Facebook page (Inside Corner Softball) and many people in the softball community are just not accepting that there is no difference in the BB swing vs SB swing. No one understands the scap load and what you have to feel to get into the proper posture and alignment. So many coaches on the travel circuit as well as those at the college level that are still teaching hands/knob to the ball. The so called 'experts' just keep spewing the same stuff that has been handed down over time. Thanks for what you do!
One last comment. . . many people who do not understand the elite level swing will look at this and say, "He's barring his front arm." NOPE! It is called staying connected with the lead arm and being co-linear. It all comes down to bio-mechanics and how the body works most efficiently.
Arms and shoulders loaded better. Pretty simple correction. Just have to be careful not to counter rotate the shoulders on initiation. The load is straight back.
Hi Matt, I wanted to know if you could go into more detail And actually show us how to do it in person instead of showing someone else doing it and drawing on a screen.
Really like what he did with the swing especially with the hands at the start of the swing using the top hand to pull away. My question is my son is 10 and he a bad problem with trying to load up with his hands causing him to change levels. What are some drills or way to get him to pull away pre swing. I have tried to get him to get his hands straight to the ball but doing this he over compensates and his hands end up betting the rest of the body through the zone.
cavassucks, the front foot going open normally restricts that and some bat power but he is still working on things. if he steps into an equal stance from there it could help keep his stance the same but get more power
In an effort to get the feel of the barrel getting into the hitting zone 'deeper', would you recommend doing tee work with the tee placed way back in your stance?
Looks like his weight is transferring to his front foot halfway through the swing. You can see his back foot lift and move forward as he comes through the ball. It's definitely worse in the "before" video than the "after," but it still looks like he's shifting his weight forward somewhat onto his front leg. I've been trying to get my son to sit on that back leg more for a more powerful hip rotation (rather than spinal rotation), and the front foot is just touching down for balance. Is there a reason you wanted this player to get his weight on his front leg, or was that just something you hadn't ironed out yet with his technique?
Hey Matt, I have heard a lot of conflicting opinions on whether the knob of the bat is supposed to be facing the catchers. I just wanted to hear your opinion on whether the bat should be “coiling” during the load.
The amount of bat coil you should have depends mostly on your own preference. Here are some examples of varying bat coil. Extreme coil- Bryce Harper twitter.com/hyattcraig/status/857957170142261248?s=21 Moderate coil- Mike Trout twitter.com/hyattcraig/status/1043341984281153537?s=21 No coil: Ronald Acuña Jr. twitter.com/hyattcraig/status/1048391066469056512?s=21
Matt, really good video and instruction. I noticed his feet went from closed to very open. This just looks more natural for the lower half and the hip rotation as opposed to even a straight on stance. Is this just something you saw in him, or is this something you try to incorporate in your hitting instruction?
Thanks!!! His foot is more open because of the drill we were doing, but I do try to straighten out the feet if they are too closed. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Matt, ive noticed in my swing that as I move towards the pitcher in my load my hands drop a little, so I struggle a bit with high pitches. Are there any drills/vidéos you can direct me to?
My 12 year old is dealing with this issue as well imbalance. He swings with a open stance and his back foot moves like he’s an ice skater. What are your recommendations?
Swing on left creates more bat speed but on right has better contact to ball. Coach, Do you think scarify some bat speed for better contact worth? Or increase bat speed like swing on left and working on contact? Thanks

The best thing that helped me was the feet I changed it and I went faster instantly on my first swing I noticed a difference a big one
Thank you I recorded myself now and the one with yours is a lot better velocity wise and it’s farther like it goes farther
That old school 90’s Astros hat though 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Could i send you a video of My swing and see what you think?

Take a deep breath it’s just a sport
how’s he doing now?😂
You are one of the very best hitting instructors! Love your stuff!!
This helps a lot. Love the videos and keep up the good work!
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Sorry Matt for my last comment. If i had paid more attention you answer my question in another video. Keep up the good work.
Hi matt! Really great video Barrel is in zone early on left that's why contact is close to body?
On right vice versa that's why contact out infront.

For sure!!! Thanks so much for watching!!!
I definitely see that it allows the ball to get a little deeper at contact, which is good!
I noticed his left elbow is higher in the improved version.....Thanks Matt

I’m looking for practice drills to help fix this though. It’s easy to identify a problem and much harder to actually fix it.
Can you show the whole sequence of the at bat and how the batter ended up in that position ?
Thanks , I realized my issue thanks to you video.
Good job, great video!!! Thanks for posting!!!
Thanks for watching!
How do you go about fixing this?
Great video breakdown.
This helped a lot
Wow not a single dislike, respect ✊
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching!!

Really dramatic change in that swing!!!
Thanks!!
Jesus loves you

Trying to get some drills on here for you! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
The feet too though!
Great video!
Thanks!! Thanks so much for commenting and watching our videos!
Great video
Thanks!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
What's the best way to get the right bat plane?
What drills did you go over to better his swings
Thanks helped alot!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I was expecting him to move his front foot towards the plate. Wouldn't he have trouble with the outside pitch given his front foot staying open?
cavassucks, the front foot going open normally restricts that and some bat power but he is still working on things. if he steps into an equal stance from there it could help keep his stance the same but get more power
Looking good 👍. Amigo. Z
Is there a certain computer program you use to do the frame by frame for the breakdowns?
Try using Coach’s Eye
looks like he has an open stance in the improved version
Anto is that a 90's Astros hat?
Kind of. Same type of style just straight up and down. Thanks for watching and commenting!

looking to do this for my baseball team. what software do you use?

I'd say most hitters have their knob somewhere towards the catcher. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Wy is he stepping out on the left. the swing looks better but his feet are in the wrong place. how is that? A drill?
Hi Matt, can you share what drills you worked on during this session?
If you check out our Antonelli Baseball winter workout videos most of the drills are in our team practices. Thanks for watching!!
What are some drills to create that sequence? And or separation
Trying to get some more up here! Thanks for watching!

Still having issues?
Matt did you ever feel like there was a certain umpire that just hated you. Like whenever you were up to bat, the strike zone just gains a few inches
Haha sometimes it feels that way. I don't think it was anything personal though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
What drills did you use to help him get to this? My son is exactly the one on the right.
I have a few videos on our channel if you check out our winter workouts they are on there. Thanks for watching!!!
Matt what software do you use to do these comparisons? I am in Australia
I use an app called Coaches Eye. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You did not show us how to improve on this kind of situation- you said we made adjustments but didn’t really go into how to do it
Let’s be honest the shin guard and elbow guard in BP is guaranteed instant bat speed :) IYKYK
Swing on left creates more bat speed but on right has better contact to ball.
Coach,
Do you think scarify some bat speed for better contact worth? Or increase bat speed like swing on left and working on contact?
Thanks
How should my knuckles be when I hold the bat
I have a few videos on that subject if you type into the search bar it should come up. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@AntonelliBaseball thanks
Who is your favorite player to watch right now? And why?
Lots of favorites. Really like Mookie Betts. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Took me a minute to see it
Hey I’m early
Thanks so much! Still playing baseball. Anyone else?
Playing at a JUCO right now. Somewhat enjoying it. It’s definitely a lot of time invested into it and I’m seeing if I will enjoy it in the long run
Isn’t it bad to having him step out
Eddie 27 not unless he leaks with his upper body and doesn’t get enough separation. Just pull and fire 🏹
