I finally met the narrator of Bastion! I always loved his voice. He brought life to Bastion and stories told by him has a solemn gravitas to it. Meeting my favorite developers in this video has been amazing.
The art provided by Jenn is fantastic. The use of color and isometric environment she had lend an extra layer of culture to the worlds. Art in superiant games provide a story. Enemies by her has an authentic yet exotic feeling to it.

There's a reason Supergiant are my all-time favorite devs. It's not because their games are amazing (they are, of course they are), it's because you can tell how much of themselves all the wonderful people there put into every single project. They put everything they have into everything they do, and you can see it and you can hear it and you can feel it in every one of their games.

How are the other games ?

Once, I was trying to console my girlfriend (I forget for what) and, at a loss for what else to do, I just started humming Build That Wall. She hasn't played or seen Bastion, but she still knows that song and asks me to sing it for her every once in a while nearly 10 years later. So...thanks, Supergiant. You guys are incredible.

I remember this game having one of the first soundtracks that I would have on every electronic device that could play music. When I first heard A Proper Story I had the volume up way high and was wearing my over ear studio headphones, it felt like the bass actually vibrated my teeth a bit when it kicked in, hahaha.

I've watched so many documentaries, interviews, GDC talks, and behind-the-scenes footage of them that when I saw them at PAX showing off Pyre a couple of years ago, I was starstruck and just smiled awkwardly. Darren was so nice and gave me an extra Transistor sticker for free :D

Woke up this morning and I was thinking about supergiant games and how I LOVE LOVE LOVE their games, I have them all. Bastion was the first one I ever got and I was so in love with it. When they released Resistor, I bought the game not realizing I didn't have the graphic card specs to run it on my potato computer at the time, so I bought a graphics card just so I can play it. This morning, I woke up wondering how they came to be a gaming company and jokingly searched in RUclips to look it up and this video is everything I was curious about. I didn't even think someone would be making documentaries like this - instantly subscribed to you Noclip, great job. Moving on to the untold story for the Transistor game now.

Bastion was the 1st indie game I ever played and it was ironically at a time when I was much, much younger and didn't think highly of indie titles, or at least the idea of playing anything but AAA/AA to me was absurd. Everyone was talking about it and I still didn't want to try it. Needless to say, spending $4 on Bastion when it went on sale and having it blow my mind when I was spending $80+AU on AAAs that lasted 2-3 hours like CoD at the time, was a pretty big reality check and I never underestimated the potential of indie games ever again.
Because of Bastion, a vast majority of my backlog & wish list consists of indie titles.

Supergiant's games a good example where you may not care for a game but can still appreciate the quality and care made to produce it.
For me the mechanics of the game don't speak to me. It's the type of game, it's just not for me. But I know the games are objectively good games.
I still buy the games to support the studio and to just take lessons on their production quality.

Thanks for this documentary; I absolutely adore Bastion. It's one of the very few games that I almost religiously gift to people when I find out they haven't played it yet. It's just a perfect storm to me of amazing atmosphere, solid gameplay, breathtaking music and outstanding visuals. I still vividly remember the first time I carried Zulf through the Ura camp while "Setting Sail, Coming Home" started playing and I began weeping during it. The only game in recent memory to do this is NieR:Automata's ending with "Weight of the World" during the E ending. When I look back I'm pretty sure it was Supergiant and Bastion that broke me for most AAA games and I started to mass consume smaller indie titles for which I regret nothing.

Sadly we didn't get to ship another game , these guys did. We had another game going and six more planned. It's beautiful to see passion take form and become an experience that others get to live from then on. Wish it works out for everyone out there making new experiences! Here's a wish that everyone's passion connects people together and pays off so that they can keep working on ! As Kojima says," Keep on Keeping on !"

I've seen so many generic games these days, it's difficult to find something fresh and beautiful at the same time. The art work is game is really beautiful and the game play is fresh. So much respect to the artist and programmers for this game, plus the story and general design is such a joy to play. Great job guys.

Gotta admire how they did it on their own terms and created something truly legendary. Almost a decade and you can still count the games who've come anywhere close to it on one hand and have fingers to spare.

Watching this after the final episode of Developing Hell is absolutely wild; they're all so young! Love these guys, and long may they keep working their magic. Thanks a million for doing what you do, Noclip.

Watching passionate people talk about what they love to do is always so entertaining. Stunning game, enjoyed every minute of it. Looking forward to Hades!

It’s in my Top 10 games ever played and remains the only game to date where I was so invested, that I actually paused the game and pondered for over ten minutes, before finishing it. It definitely made an impact. I can also recommend their prints, got some for Bastion and some of Red. 😊

oh wow, cormac mccarthy is probably my favorite author. really interesting to learn that he was an inspiration for this game, which i also loved.
also, not to take anything away from bastion, but as i was watching this i kept thinking "man, i'd love to learn more about the development of Transistor" and then i see the comment that a Transistor doc is coming.
i think i'm going to boot that up and play it agian.
Thank you for existing, danny and noclip.

Bastion was the game that made me realize video games can be art; a medium that can make you feel something, like movies and books and fine art. An absolutely incredible experience, and I have followed SuperGiant ever since. Truly an incredible experience.

I just finished Bastion for the first time yesterday. Hearing how it came together just adds to how I feel about that ending.
