  • Jools Holland and Dave Edmunds rock the Amsterdam Paradiso. Splendid cover of the Nick Lowe classic. A true celebration of Brinsley Schwarz style pubrock.

I knew the Bride was wiritten by Nick Lowe, who was a member of Brinsley Schwarz' legendary band. Dave Edmunds did produce the last album of Brinsley Schwarz "The New Favourites of Brinsley Schwarz" After that he played with Nick Lowe in the band Rockpile.

i note that even pros at time "race" songs and change tempi .. a nice song anyway (but check out Nick Lowe's performance at the Montreux festival some years back for a real laid back and driving performance of his song.

Of course, Nick Lowe wrote this song for Dave's 1975 solo album "Get It" so it started life as a rocker. When he decided to record his own version he couldn't just imitate the "original" so he slowed it down to produce the excellent drive and tempo to which you are referring.
