If I were 30 years younger this would be my chariot. Love the smooth naturally aspirated engine and even the looks outside are ok big grill and all. I take this over Genesis G70 or BMW just based on quality and reliability, add to that great suspension. Too bad about the infotainment control and lack of manual. This is last of a breed and will last for ever, great review as always.
Love the new IS. Can’t wait to hear your review of the IS500 FSport Performance. I’m seriously thinking about getting the IS500 when I can finally get my hands on one.
Again, the review of the less than "maxed out" version is appreciated. As I was watching this one, it occurred to me what a good speaker/presenter Brian is. I've done my share of presentations throughout my professional career, so really notice the cadence and natural (not mono-tone) voice tone. Keep up the interesting reviews and good work. What packages did this tester include? (I see it had the bigger wheels than base, and did that Mark L. stereo come standard, or with an upgrade package.). I find it intersting that the curb weight comes in at about 3800 lbs, whereas the new TXL SH-AWD is pushing 4150 in the Type S. Cars are getting kind of heavy. This Lexus weighs more than my Forester XT.
Thank you for the kind words, Scott. Glad you enjoyed this episode. Shot this one in the spring and IIRC the US/Can specs are somewhat different so I didn't go deep into options. In Canada, this is one big dollar package atop the base car, less any F Sport options. Still, I want to try the F Sport suspension which I might find more enjoyable. IS 300 rear drive episode is shot and scheduled for September.
I can't wait to hear your and Paul G.'s assessments of the IS500. Lexus may have gotten better performance from a V6TT but there is something more visceral about a n/a V8.
I had a few, love the car, yes it's not as agressive power wise compare to others, but it has a good balance of comfort and just enough power for daily drive. Very solid engine, transmission, type of car if you want to buy and keep, it will last at least 10 years.
I have a 2015 IS 350 F sport and while this interior is very close to mine, I do like the changes they made...especially the larger touchscreen. Having said that, Lexus had the opportunity to fix a huge flaw and they didnt do it..doh!🙈 Now that they got rid of the little mouse thing it opens up room on the center console to push the cupholders forward and make the center armrest useable to share with the front passenger. For this reason alone when me and my gf go on a roadtrip she insists on taking her 2018 Honda CRV that I hate driving...but at least it has much more storage space and a center armrest that can be used by both driver and passenger. Of course if the passenger seat is pushed all the way back the center armrest can be used by the passenger, but then she's too far away to reach the stereo and climate controls. The driving modes dont need to be a knob on the console, hopefully Lexus fixes this with the next gen..or even next refresh if they continue milking the current platform.
It's comfortable safe ride, especially for those who don't want to free-fall when getting out of an SUV. Can't steer it with the accelerator pedal, so my cheapo 6MT Civic is more fun, for sporty driving... V8 and RWD, in soon to be released IS500, is going to be a perfect powertrain for this hefty chassis.
Love the color combo remember this is a dentist dentist wife car? They want to look important? this portion of population will likely never see over 90 miles an hour?

What would be your choices now?
I'm a septuagenarian, If I were 30 years younger I'd choose the IS F Performance
That’s the thing, Paul. The IS feels so well made, like it’ll outlast all of the competition.

Same here... in a world of boosted-6's Lexus is going old school muscle. I respect them for that and want one too
In Canada, we’re a little slower to see the newest stuff, but stay tuned! IS 500 should be fun!

I’m looking forward to it, as well! Looks like fun.
Nice review

I remember when the IS came out when i was in middle 🏫
Homeslice appears to have gotten the stink outta LaLa Land and is back in the Land Of The Glorious And Free!
Great job Brian!
I shot this episode between LA trips! Canada is neither glorious nor free these days.
So, being a v6, is premium fuel required?

Will you ever get the Taycan in to review?
Doesn’t seem like it’ll be any time soon. Driven plenty and they seem like fine machines.
@@BrianMakse Alright just curious, Keep up the great content!

Wrong car, wrong episode!
