So basically it's a 2m version of the RBGIC 5m strip I got from govee for behind TV for 50 pounds, with a metal pole and base that costs 80 pounds. Still want a couple though, maybe when they're down to 50ish on a deal.
I’ve just bought some more Govee bulbs and lamps and I’ve been really impressed with them. The light bars light strips have helped transform my office before the winter sets in
shame they didn't offer horizontal mounts like a giant flo pro, it would make a great curtain / wall uplighter (even better if it could be tied into the flow pro)
WLED on an ESP32 chip (arduino nano) plus a WS2812 addressable RGB strip…. Yes it’s not quite as app-wise but does most of this for literally a fraction of the cost. Not sure I’ve seen a video on it from Paul, but it’s super simple and super cheap, would make a great video and hopefully push development of the WLED project
Or you can just pick up a Govee RGBIC strip on the cheap, a light strip channel and defuser (all from eBay) and make your own for a fraction of the price. Lol
I have this, and I have to say I love it. You can even use it with highlight now so it syncs with the TV backlight, like you mentioned. I've also got it working in Home Assistant perfectly. I did get it for free, but I still think it would be great for the price
Perfect timing...I've been in the market for an LED floor lamp recently. I thought of making my own just using some GOVEE led strips and rigging it on a janky, homemade pole with some plastic diffusion covering. Love the GOVEE product line for sure....just wish they made a Floor Stand Lamb that is wifi compatible. Was surprised to see in the video that the base didn't light up, as it looks like the GOVEE table lamp. Would be a nice effect to get some saturation onto the floor.
I have had this lamp since it's release. It's very bright and color saturation is great. Probably a little overpriced. I only bought it because Reed @ smart home solver thought it looked like a lightsaber. Paul, a better replacement for your hue bloom lights is probable the govee portable lamp (named starpal in some markets)
I bought this lamp about 3 weeks ago. And 2 weeks later one of the segments of the lamp was not working I had to return it. I really like the lamp. But I’m not sure to purchase again because of durability.
I just bought 2 Lyra lamps. Let's see what they are like and how I can get them to work effortlessly with my Apple Homekit (Homebridge) smart home. However, my basic lighting is done with Philips Hue lamps, which I have been really satisfied with. Thanks anyway for another great presentation video.
wow Govee are doing some great stuff ! I got one of there light strips behind my desk and I can see its great ! They always seem to be adding more to scenes to there app all the time! So seems they really are support there products well :-) Great video Paul!

Brilliant and entertaining. However, I received two of these for Xmas '22 and I ADORE them! So much so that I was given another one for my birthday right after Xmas. No remote, just the phone app. No problem, but... in adding the third one, I messed up the timers on all three and for the life of me I cannot find the "schedule" to reset them. I was hoping to find that here, (help with the timing) but it was just the colours? Nice Sunday morning viewing though, over my cup of coffee. 😁

Awesome review! I have one. I need another one. It’s the most expensive Govee product I own but ironically, it’s the one I feel the least guilty purchasing. It’s that good. I have two complaints. One, is the base is backward. When the light is facing the wall, so is the logo on the base. And worse, the cord is facing out into the room in full view. It should be the other way around. When the light is facing the wall the cord should be behind the base and the logo should be out front. My second complaint is the brightness increments on the remote are too course. Only five brightness levels on the remote makes it difficult to get the brightness you may want. I will be purchasing another.
One of my favorite things has nothing to do with smart home stuff. I like watches, you know, those little machines you wear on your wrist that tell you the time. One of the amazing things about looking at watches on Amazon is finding a review where someone claims that a divers watch with 200m ISO water resistance rating leaked and was ruined when they washed their hands. They include a picture to show you the watch with water under the crystal and on the dial. You can clearly see in the picture that the crown (the little winder thingy that sticks out of the case, for you non horological types) is not screwed in tight to seal the watch. You have to screw down the crown so that it seals, that stops water from flowing into the watch from the watch stem and crown. This is a pretty much universal thing on divers watches no matter if they're mechanical or quartz powered. So you might think that someone who has enough interest in watches to shell out $200+ for a dive watch would either know to screw the crown down tight or at least read the manual that comes with them. But if you thought that you'd be wrong. That kind of person not only doesn't bother to learn how to use something, they don't even have enough common sense not to post a picture of their folly for all of us to laugh at. There are nincompoops with "floor lambs" everywhere and they seem to be increasing in numbers.

IKR, when it started happening to me I was expecting a new model with 'faster processing bullsh*t technology' installed but I was wrong, they weren't deliberately making their products obsolete at all.

Just got one from Govee UK with 2 discounts 121 quid, really impressed really like it, typical of all the usual comments how pricey these things are, here's an idea don't buy it then, anyway one little flaw in the design, if your supposed to point it at wall, then the cable comes away from the light towards you, if it had a swival base you could always keep the cable tucked away, going to try and open it up to turn the base round.

Hello Paul, great video as always. I got the lamp two weeks ago and I am no home tech guru. I use Ziggy ( Alexa) to change the scenes on my Govee with no problem at all and it happens on the first request. So either it is a UK Alexa issue, or it's just Alexa having one off on you for all the crap you give her.
From the UK and just bought 2 of these bad boys. Now I'm asking if they sync together. Hope so. I cant find anything to confirm it. Putting one on each side of my Philips Ambilight. Totally forgot to use Pauls affiliate link too so feeling a bit annoyed about that. Thats what happens when u have a week off work and a few beers cos it's payday! Might have to do the one off beer at Paypal. Keep up the good content Mr Hibbert :)
I have Google-enabled speakers throughout my house and most perform perfectly. The only one I have problems with is a Nest hub I bought last Christmas which frequently drops connection, mishears instructions or just hangs. I think I may have gotten a dud as when I checked its connection through the WiFi menu in the Home app, it always says 'weak connection' despite it being situated right beside the Google mesh router. The other speakers I have are an original Google puck from 2017 and two GA enabled Insignia alarm clocks from Best Buy in the US and they're all rock solid. I don't understand the hate on this channel for Google, at least this way I'm not funding Bezos' plans for world domination (or his next big flying willy-shaped not-space rocket.)
@@rich_edwards79 how many other devices do you have? If you have a lot of devices connected to the same internet, then they will clog the system, causing drop-outs and weak connection to devices.
@Paul Hibbert cool lamp. if you have time, check if you can do segments. that would sort out your problem to use white and any other colour. from what you said, firmware they used its based on WLED.

Yes, Philips Hue is expensive, but it works. I have had two Govee light strips and both have, after less than a couple of months, had the same fault. In fact the 2nd one was a replacement sent by Govee customer support to replace the first one. Sections of both strips have a failed blue LED. I also have two Philips Hue light strips, that I have had for three years and they work all the time, every time. Govee support have been great and sent the replacement very quickly, but I don’t want to have to keep replacing my light strip every few months.

I have the Lyra and actually made a Lyra from their Govee RGBIC strips before they came out with this, likewise I made the Govee Hexa from the same RGBIC Strips. There’s a huge problem with Govee lamps that you didn’t mention. Their name is very close to Michael Gove, so you’re constantly reminded of his stupid face every time you see their logo on stuff. Puts me off buying them.

I've never had a problem with Google not understanding off/on. Alexa however switches the two all the time and can almost never understand either.

Govee Lyra is poor quality, its amazing how people in 2022 still don't understand the concept of "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"

Paul GREAT Video Thanks!!! Please do more videos of Govee products I have them all but love your videos and maybe you can put presure on them to integrate with Hubitat. I have the Lyra and actually made a Lyra from their Govee RGBIC strips before they came out with this, likewise I made the Govee Hexa from the same RGBIC Strips. I am awaiting the arrival in a day for the Govee Hexa. Thanks again !

There’s a huge problem with Govee lamps that you didn’t mention. Their name is very close to Michael Gove, so you’re constantly reminded of his stupid face every time you see their logo on stuff. Puts me off buying them.

I bought the flo pro after watching your video, now i want this, I've already bought a set for the car. Based on my experience with this thing, you might want to consider yourself lucky. Yes... I could just be unlucky, but it broke after 3 months.
