Keep in mind that it only works as well as the device you are scaling up. My inovelli dimmers seem to increment about 3% at a time rather than smoothly with my halo lights.
I'm not sure if I should blame the switch, config, or bulb but it isn't the smoothest.

Regarding the whole 20 minute fade of the lights to wake up, google home can do that with any smart light. You just have to set a recurring alarm and in the menu there's an option to turn it on, called something like sunrise lights or something like that. I just know there's a slider to turn it on then you get to select which lights do it. Mine do it every morning and they're CYNC lights.

The "rising sun" thing can be done with just about any controller system. I've been doing it for years with a Sengled Zigbee bulb, and FHEM. I tell it when to turn on, and it starts the bulb at 1%, increasing 3 every minute for half an hour or so before I want to be up.

I really want to like Govee, but the strips I've got here (H6159 and H6143) have the worst yellows I've ever seen from an LED. It's basically lime green, and given they're RGBW, the "warm white" is therefore also sickly green. The uplight (H6058) is better - I actually really like that product. Hopefully the newer chips here fix that?
Oh, also one of my power supplies died and I've no idea where to get a replacement. Can't find any spares or parts on their website 😥

That's a big concern to me as my mountain home has no over the air reception and the internet is DSL based so it tends to fail for hours if there are high winds or a storm. Thanks again for your diligent efforts and comedic style.

I am quite fond of my Govee TV Backlight (the one with the camera, but not the latest version) and am always hoping they will bring out something that will allow me to recreate the effect I had some years ago with a Philips Ambilight TV and some Hue light strips and bulbs, all nicely synchronized.
I know this is sort of possible already, but last time I checked there were still some caveats. I won't be getting the "AI Sync box" version, because routing all my HDMI stuff through there would cause endless problems (HDMI 2.1 and all that...) so a camera based one with the ability to sync more Govee lights is what I cam aiming for.

    A few things to add.
    1. Govee has had scenes on many devices that do a gentle wakeup that turn on from 0% to 100% over 30 min. If that doesn't fit your need for other devices my integration for Hubitat also does a fade over time for any device that supports the LAN API.
    2. The Govee Lan API is available for the M1 Strip as well as many of the new devices that have been released over the last year or so. It is also completely local and removes the need for the cloud.
    3. Last thing to point out is the integration community recently found ways to load scenes for Govee devices. It works fantastic. The best part is it works for built in scenes as well as the DIY scenes.

Because I'm slow to do most things I still haven't sorted my PC area fully but seems I'm still waiting for a fully addressable COB strip with decent density (plus some DIY lights are better than anything you can get from Govee, Philips etc) - just need to buy a controller and install WLED on it.

Matter is fully local so the basic commands (on/off, 1 solid color, brightness) should work without any internet connection. Anything beyond that will be specific to Govee and will not work through Matter. There is a provision in Matter to do vendor extension, which is allowing the OEM to add features and triggering them using the Matter messaging protocol but since those vendor extensions are not known by anyone else, there is no way to trigger them from any other Matter ecosystem UNLESS the OEM publishes the documentation of those extension and someone is adding them specifically to the ecosystem (Home Assistant, Alexa...).

I use Philips Hue for one very simple reason and one alone - it works with Apple HomeKit. HomeKit is soooo much better than Alexa or Goggle because it’s simple and isn’t clogged up with crap that people think they want but never use. I use an iPhone & an iPad because they’re the best at what they do. I have no fear of malware or infected apps. You can’t say that about any Android phone, even first party Goggle ones. Plus and this is a huge one, Apple support their older devices with software and security updates for years whereas Goggle and Samsung don’t after a couple of years. I’m still using my iPhone XR which I got from Apple by trading in my 6S on a special deal. It still works as well as the day I got it, appart from the battery only lasting about 16 hours now between charges - it’s still the OG battery.

Can you recommend any diffusers for the M1, I bought some from Amazon but you can see each individual LED shining through the diffuser. I wanted it to look more like one smooth light

I had Govee light strips and for whatever reason, they stopped working with Google. Would always give me error messages, would hardly work when asked to turn off or on etc. Govee had no solution. Google had no solution. I replaced them with LE light strips and they work flawlessly. Sure, they are not individually addressable lights, but they work when I ask google to do stuff with them.

Amazing video as always Mr H, but I watched and I watched... No elephant. Does that LED strip have fire effect, because I think your pants have flames coming out of them?! I think it's dead from neglect. An elephant isn't just for YT, it's for life.
On a more serious note, can you cut the strip to the length that you want? Obviously, not the end that the controller is attached to. That's the sort of silly mistake only an elephant would make.

Great video again mate! Quick question though….. can you link the strips like you can the LIFX ones? I spent £000’s on LIFX lighting throughout the house before their fall from grace and get brought out, despite the fact the new company has released more updates and new themes than I ever saw LIFX do. Now I have a 7m, 5m and a 3m strip just in my living room and they create a perfect rainbow! But it’s the fact I could link up to 10m of strip off a single supplied plug. Would these Govee be capable to do that? I have other Govee products around the house but I’m not their biggest fan. Some are awesome while others need so much manual input I’m gonna bin them! Lol

the govee ones come in strips up to 65 feet that can all be powered from a single plug socket if thats what you're talking about. i too was an avid fan of lifx, they were ahead of their game at one point with the effects and individual addressable shite. NOW though, all the bulbs have since blown, bits of the strip stopped working. moved over to govee completely. you just have to be wary which products you do choose coz as you've pointed out SOME require too much manual input for them to even be considered smart devices. The more modern ones though from last year to present is what you want. All of them are bright and vibrant, i have the tiles, wall bars, hexagons and a stand corner strip and they all work flawlessly
