Wow Jeff you went through that fast! I found doing wax melts in a mold then putting them in a container is a pretty cheap way to go. I wrap mine in cello , which is really cheap and then labeling them. I also offer them in tins or jars depending which is cheaper and I do well that way too. People are willing to pay more for them in a tin with the word Luxury Wax Melts on the label! Hope that helps. You can pick up heart shaped molds for 2.50$ and you have them forever.
Hey! I am a candle maker. I have been making them for years. I finally broke down and bought clamshells. I’ve been wondering how to break it down and how to price! THANK YOU for making this video!!
Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing all of these videos with us! I really like the breakdown you gave us here that included shipping costs but I'm wondering if you can make another pricing video that also factors in taxes paid on supplies, and estimates on production labor. I've been calculating my numbers over and over and the only way I can get my costs low enough to be under $2 is if I do not include the costs of my labor or add the taxes paid to purchase my materials. I think this might actually be something a lot of people are leaving out and they might be under pricing their melts. What are your thoughts on this?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I appreciate you! I’m just getting into candles and considering starting my own business. You mentioned ebook on starting your own business and I got excited! Going to check it out!
Hi! I noticed on your website you have a Candle Cost Calculator! Was wondering if you'd be making one for the wax melts only! You're information is extremely helpful btw! I appreciate it!
Do you have a video on how you take your photos for your page to give it a more professional looking product? Also, can you do an updated video for Square Space please I have Square Space since the merged with Weebly Thank-You
Wow this video is gold, you are so knowledgeable and I appreciate you making this video! Definitely going to subscribe! I just started my wax melt/candle business and this video was very helpful on how to price my items! Thank you❤️🙏🏼
this is helping me, but i am using two different waxes, got my items shipped separately, am only putting in 1.6 ounces per lb of way, a more detailed video on the math would help me tremendously ! hopefully you can help me im terrible with the math equations and pricing!!!
Mr.Standley I use 464 I am try to do only one clamshell to test with midwest fragrance company oil could you tell me how much wax and oil I would need for that I would like for it to be strong as well
I wanted to purchase you wax melt kit, but never see it on your web site? Please I would like to start making these to sell with my soaps, but not sure about it, which is why I wanted to purchase the kit.
Hey Stanley, love watching your video. Do u have any Recommendations for the amount of fragrance for 2 8oz soy candles. I just started and the numbers are getting a little confusing. Thanks Stanley and hope to hear from you
Hi, would you please do another video but use grams instead of ounces as i have no idea on how to price my products but i cant for the life of me get the whole ounces thing. sorry xx
I wish you wouldve shown the different sizes that clamshells can come in. as the clamshells i use are bigger than the ones that you showed in the video (my clamshells hold about 6oz of wax. Which means each cube is about 1oz)
A LITTLE off topic but I've emailed fragrance companies and melt makers and I can't get an answer, only opinions and advice based on "gut feelings" and hear-say. Is there any advantage in making scented wax melts over just warming the fragrance itself? Why add it to the wax at all before heating if all we want is the fragrance? Does it not throw as well or as long for some reason if it''s not blended with wax?
thats what I do ..add it to a carrier oil or DPG and out it in the burner..this is after i had ruined a few inexpensive diffusers putting my fragrance oils in them ( even though I knew they are meant only for essential oils..I wanted them to be for my fragrance oils! ) and it worked great for quite awhile lol..
How do you charge for shipping with the clam shells that would be expensive so I meant guessing it's not included in the pricing of the item. When YOU ship out the melts sorry wasnt clear haha.
I'm a new candle maker just opening my business but every candle I have made so far has just gone out without explanation 😔 I have tried cutting the wick to the right size and have even left it longer but the wax still pools and drowns the flame. The only other thing I can think of that might cause my candles to go out would be the curing time as i only left the ones i tried for an hour or two before lighting them. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? If so please let me know I'd be super grateful :)
You are likely not using the right wick for the wax type and vessel size. Check out wick guide on CandleScience and most other candle supplier websites.
Keely Rose Sorry I missed the email. I’ve quite a few stacked up. 😁 I have a link to them on my website but I’m not personally among them at the moment.
I left that out of this cost since everyones labor will be very different and also hard to calculate based on how quick someone can make these. it would be a very different amount based on the individual.
I noticed you didn’t factor in the $$ for actually printing the label itself. Toner and Ink costs money. Also you didn’t factor in how much time it takes to make them etc. so the costing is much more than you say in the video.
There is a lot that wasn’t included. Those costs get wrapped up into other costs like electric, gas for picking things up, things that will be hard to calculate for people who may have different set ups, drives and printers. The melt costs are universal for everyone since they can purchase the same things I mention. My printing costs would be different than someone else’s which is why I made it struck for material shown.
@@StandleyHandcrafted Hey what is your math on the fragrance oil.. after you listed $32 / 16oz which equals 2 I was completely lost following after that. Honestly feeling a bit discouraged now. Can you please just write out the formula on how you got $0.58 as your total for fragrance oil @3:15

I order my labels directly from avery and for 1200 of those labels is 65.00 free shipping. Labels come to .05 cents per label...more savings!
Thank you for making his video. For someone who is not good in math it can get confusing quick!

Thanks again for sharing your expertise!!

Excellent question. I would like to know the answer to this question too.
Love your content. HATE the excess use of plastic!!!
You can get some nice eco friendly and recyclable packaging now.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been trying to figure out how to brake down the price of my wax cubes. 🙏🏽
Great video Jeff. Thanks for all you tips.
Hey Jeff, great info. Since you’re using clear labels where do you put the warning labels?
I believe he puts it inside of the lid. Seen him mention it in another video

Thanks Jeff! We are starting to get requests for clamshells so this was very helpful!
Printing ink? But it was a great and informative video. Love watching your channel
Hi there! what about the cost of packaging and deliveries ?
Great video & really good information. Do you think you can make one of these with a regular 7oz candle jar.?
Hi Jeff, how long do the melts last before needing to be replaced? do you put 1 or 2 in? Thank you
Brilliant really helpful ( from UK )
Could you share where you got your labels ? Thanks
where is the link for the avery labels you mentioned?
Hi, I watched your RUclips and looked for the Avery label and could not find it.
What are you using today for your clam shells?
Avery labels from Office Depot.

Question do you think making wax melts in clamshell is better than making wax brittle ?
Mr.Standley I use 464 I am try to do only one clamshell to test with midwest fragrance company oil could you tell me how much wax and oil I would need for that I would like for it to be strong as well
I think the cost of my clamshells are excellent then! I bought 200 clamshells for $47. Making that around 25 cents per each one
That's a great buy!
Where? Please share :) thanks!
@@marycole434 on Amazon, you can get 100 for $22.90 which is 23¢ each.
Can you show the complete break down for the oil. I'm visual and got lost when you came to the oil.

Vanessa Lop I use around 9% for soy. I make three 8oz at a time with 1lb of wax and use about 1.2oz - 1.3oz of wax

do you fill your clamshells all the way to the top? or just enough to cover each little square?
Kary R All the way to the top
Need to do the grams man

I’ll update the next one.
How do you charge for shipping with the clam shells that would be expensive so I meant guessing it's not included in the pricing of the item. When YOU ship out the melts sorry wasnt clear haha.
You can ship a single clamshell in a small pouch for a couple $$ and charge $3-$4

How much oil are you using...wow no way is it 34 cents worth of oil for a 3 oz clamshell...you use 1 oz oil per pond of wax
For 464 I use 2oz per pound which makes 7 clamshells. For 6006 I use 1.6oz of oil per pound of wax.
