Nothing will probably beat Deer memes for me, but this is one of the shows putting up a fight for anime of the season! Agree? See my full uncut live reactions to the episodes over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews

Love how Takayuki fights his way. He drawas the atention of his oponent and wears them down till he takes them down or his comrades move in. He loves the chace and movement. I guess you could also call him a chace/fighting junkie in way

I was thinking exactly the same. I saw many complaining the whiplash is bad, but I thought the timing felt just about right, it's very much like older animes where they blend gag and serious moment seemlessly together. Very thoughtful review and as a manga reader I can't wait to see your further live reactions and review of the show as they air!

I think the comedy-serious whiplash is definately something from the older generation. Assassination Classroom did that a lot too and it worked out there, though I believe this mangaka got that kinda "trait" thing from when he was an assistant on the absolute insanity that is Bobobo-bo bobo-bo

This is an insane show. No doubt about it.
That priest... he is legit nightmare fuel. Funny too. But nightmare fuel nonetheless. And the little gag of him "turning off" his neon-light-in-the-night aura by pulling on the... accessory in his head or whatever those two antenna-like things... two seconds, but funny two seconds indeed.
But what makes that priest all the more memorable for me is his voice. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the priest's VA is the same VA that gives us Tatsuya Shiba from Irregular, Yuichi Nakamura... It's such a mental gear-grinding I can't really process it.
Then there is the POS Uncle who sells and beheads Tokiyuki's big bro. Then proceeds to go after Tokiyuki like a true madman. The battle with him as he went full demon mode was impressive, and satisfactory when he was at last beheaded.
Yet the second thing I can't take out of my head was that scene of him beating the living shit of that boy with that gleeful, maniacal smile.
This show doesn't pull its punches. At. All. Kinda like Hell's Paradise (still waiting for a Season 2 of that one).
Great anime. Wild anime. 10/10 recommend so far. Can't wait for Saturday to see where we go from here.

Went in blind and fell in love. I really like 'costume/historical' anime and when they're set in ancient Japan I like them even more. The mix of comedic scenes with the brutality of the setting/reality has me intrigued coz I never know what to expect. For sure it's not a boring anime!!

I didn't want children to beat an adult. It wouldn't make any sense. But the way they handled it made a lot of sense. He was just toying with the 2, and got tired trying to kill the prince. If the kids fought him on equal terms and beat him without any strategy but with just sword skills and strength, it would have been a bit too much.

The interesting thing is that Tokiyuki is based on a real samurai so this is a historical series. A lot of what is happening happened in real life. Apparently the series is by the assassination classroom author. The series is brutal and emotional and the animation moves the story. It’s also interesting to see the water colour backgrounds like when we reenter the burnt village. The Duke who sees the future definitely feels like a plot device for this story.
Speaking of which, I think the too many losing heroines series is another good summer series

Okay since the comment ain't gonna load, I'm just gonna say CloverWorks is doing some fantastic work on this show. Even if there are some inconsistencies at times, they are doing things that are not very common. How do you get this anime popular when people aren't gravitating towards a historical series... Bring some of the best animation you can and a compelling story and you have a show called The Elusive Samurai.
Not only do we have a great cast of characters and a good story I honestly have to just take a step back and praise the amount of work that these animators have done. Truly something fantastic... The jokes are landing especially the beginning with the Wake up prank 🤣
Also... That uncle deserves to go do the pits of Hell for what he did with Toriyuki's bro... His own flesh and blood he betrayed for fame and soon he lost it because he's a madman. They popped off with the animation and Toriyuki got some character development and he brought some closure to his brother and clan at least a little. I'm extremely excited for the future of this show because this could easily be anime of the season alongside Wistoria.
The OP and ED give me Gintama vibes although I have only seen the openings for that show tbh but I know it's popular.
Still gonna take me a bit to learn all of the names but I love the cast we got so far. It really does stand out from the norm.

The mc's fighting style and strategy (with help from the weird priest guy and people he recruited to help) is like that of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Musashi's influence has been seen in anime before.

For now Elusive Samouraï is my favorite show of the season (closely followed by Mayonaka Punch)
In regulare scenes the artstyle is beautiful but not unseen. But once the action start kicking, it so unique. I like how they depicted the uncle like a litteral demon not just by telling it but by showing it.

Hey Brandon! Are you watching the Shoushimin Series? It probably has the best animation this season! The backgrounds are straight out of a movie, It is from the author of Hyouka. I'm sure many people would want to hear you comment on its episodes, as I don't think any anime youtuber is talking about it properly and in length. It's not something you'd want to sleep on, just saying!!

At first, I got frustrated with our boi because he tried to runaway from the very people who wants to help him and I'm liek have some common sense kid. Your family died. You can't go on whining. But somehow, the fact that he tries to runaway with everyhing kinda resonates to me. I mean, his world is effed up. But when he tried to confront his uncle and ultimately beheading him, man. Ars-sama approves. First kill is the sweetest way to maturity. Kudos to the writer and the Onmyouji-man for emphasizing that his journey of tag is also a one shot, one kill journey. I hope he will also improve his martial arts skills instead of relying in his lucky dodges. Critical hits are lucky rolls in a die. So hopefully, he got good rolls next time also.
