  • Zach and Greg discuss their experiences hunting in the plains and how those experiences have helped them make more effective decisions in other habitat types. The lessons that are learned on every hunt are valuable for future situations no matter how different the setting looks. Zach and Greg have found that even though the plains are very different from big timber areas they hunt throughout the season, there are a lot of consistent patterns that can can be observed in open country that can help you when picking spots to hunt in areas with significantly more cover.
    Topics Include:
-the similarities and differences between whitetail and mule deer
-observing buck bedding based off of conditions and terrain in open country
-pulling off a shot while on a stalk
-how observing buck bedding in the plains can help you find buck bedding in the timber

I love the general and non-game wildlife footage Greg has started incorporating recently.

I have always hunted our farm in SW PA. We started going mule deer hunting a couple years ago and it changed my whole mindset on hunting. Spot and stalking is the peak of bow hunting and although I can't really effectively do it here, I use what I learned with thermals and deer bedding that you just can't see in woods

Really testing my self-control and patience by posting a turkey hunting video while I'm halfway thru this podcast 😂.

I’ve done the throw something quite a few times. It’s a crap shoot just like everything else. More than once I think they have heard it in the air before it hits the ground. I’ve seen them get up an face the sound, turn there butt to it an look over there shoulder, jump up an run. I could on with the scenarios. Two things my Dad told told me 45 years ago when I started hunting. 1 You don’t know if you don’t go. 2 You won’t know if you don’t try.

So what is your main issue on all of these. Wind. Why not invest in some scentlok? Use it properly, keep it stored properly and decon it after a few hunts. You have nothing to lose. If the wind doesnt bust you then hey! Great but if it even buys you a little time then hell yea it may give you a chance. Check out John Eberhart.

John hunts so high and is meticulous.... scentlok is a waste of money when ur crawling around 45 days in a row
