I have the same model, Always nice to see another male owners haha all my buds laugh when I reveal my collection New and old. I've been mending my clothes all my life and making things when I find the time. Sewing is a great skill few value enough.

Two weeks ago I gave my three year old Singer machine to my daughter and brought home a second hand, 1970s Frister+Rossmann which knocks spots off the Singer! I found it in a charity shop, PAT tested and in full working order with all original accessories. All I had to do was to shell out another fiver for a download of the original instruction booklet and I was up, up and away. Everything is massively metal, unlike the flimsy singer machine which I always feared would snap in places that couldn't be repaired. Made cheaply to last five minutes and then throw away I suppose. How disappointing for you, as it was for me when I unboxed my Singer just after I bought it. You may get used to it, but if not, maybe try online for an old workhorse. There are many out there, fully working and tested for safety. Much, much better.

wrt the pull out section - when pulled out it reveals the narrower sewing bed, i.e. the free arm which is used for sewing "tubes" such as arm holes, cuffs, trouser hems etc

Sadly, I'll never buy another Singer, or a Brother or a Juki. Am the proud owner of 3 Janomes now. Last Singer I bought new was a Singer Talent 10 years ago, which was not up to much even then. I still own 4 Singers (3 x Singer Samba a 2, 4 and a 6, and an old green one set in a table from the 1960s - all still work well).

The captions on this video are a touch strange. At the start it says "is this a toy?" When you're lips aren't moving. The disconnect is a tad bit confusing
