- Welcome to cocktail hour at the Northern Royal Albatross nest at Taiaroa Head! Watch a group of non-breeding albatross congregate in front of the cam to interact and practice courtship displays. Make sure to turn your volume up and listen to the yapping croaks, whinging calls, and clapping bills as the albatross socialize.
RoyalCam was set up in January 2016 by the Department of Conservation. For the 2019/2020 season we have collaborated with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. To learn more while watching, view the cam at

Royal Cam is a 24-hour live stream of a Northern Royal Albatross nest during the breeding season at Pukekura/Taiaroa Head on the southeast tip of New Zealand's South Island.
The season of 2019/2020 has seen the Royal Cam once again move up the hill. Now at Top Flat Track our new pair is OGK (banded Orange, Green, Black) a 21 year old male and YRK (banded Yellow, Red, Black) and 25 year old female. YRK laid the egg on 14 November 2019.
This season the live stream has partnered with Cornell Bird Lab. There are some new features including a trial of night vision and the ability to pan and zoom the camera at the rangers discretion.

The little one is beginning to realize he was born into an odd family
Ain't it the truth!
That beak snapping seems to mean everything. Aggression, a greeting, a warning, a sign of love, a celebration, a sign of trust.... where is Google Translate when ya need it?
It was like a garden party, “you gotta see the baby!” These birds are amazing💕❤️💕
Haha “ya gottttta see the baaaayby, ya gotta see the BAYYYBAY!!” 🤣
Baby shower?
LOL, poor chick is like "Will they go away already?".
That poor chick was thinking "What are they going to do to me this time?"
♥️ I luv watching these birds! At least they left pippa alone this time. Ty for sharing ♥️🐦🐣
Poor Pippa..she was SO 😨..but looks like some of them were protecting our lil Girl..!! Thank goodness..shows how brave our Baby Girl is..!! Love you Pippa..!!❤💞💕
It's great how some seem to protect her. 😘 I like to think those are probably female Juvies, trying to keep all the babies safe. 😘 Sweet!
@@kittypurr11 OH Yes..think they were female as well..keeping the other juvies in LINE..LOL..😂😊👍🌹
Bette Chic her only has her mommy as far as we know 😢😢
When NZ was practicing safe social distancing I had to laugh when I saw this on the live Department of Conservation royal albatross cam. Captured the same scene of the group party time at the nest myself as well to share with family (as my grandparents would have missed it otherwise the next day; it was on Mar 19 for NZ I think). Thanks for posting this professional edit from the feed. There was also a nice period of the parents feeding and interacting with the chick earlier that day. Bonus this year there is a better night footage capture so it is not just the Dunedin lights in the background and you can still see the nest (although the darkness swallowing up the Dunedin lights did add a gloom and glimmer to the isolated peninsula as the last of the sunlight slipped away).
Потрясающе, у них целая компания. Дружные топтания вокруг птенца, ну очень мило🤗❤️❤️❤️☺️👍👍
Chick was like, “Grown-ups...psh!” 😂
Wonderful, i coud sit so many
houres nearby this fantastic kind
of birds. 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴
Absolutely fascinating. It’s like they know they’re on camera lol “hey check me out”
Pippa appears to be terrified
Beautiful sights and sounds. ❤
Pippa will be a tough gal when she grows up.
This is simply amazing to view
WOOOW. This is the best I've seen lately.
Шикарные птицы!
Chic changing position and thinking , "What the fcuk is going on?" 🤣🤣🤣
Live these birds. Carry your own chopsticks!!
Poor baby she's so scared. I missed her !
She's thinking goodness They're gone 😊
Priceless.
So beautiful to watch! :)
Wow they are majestic
Una reunión de parientes. Qué lindos😊❤
They probably lived in a nest nearby when they were young!
This is wonderful ❣️❣️❣️!!! Hahahaha they sound like video games 🤗🤗🤗🤗. It seems like the little one's presence is inspiring them 😊😊😊😊
Lovely and beautiful 💖💯🌹💖💖💖💖💖💯
for some reason, they remind me of the rite in Bergman's The Rite
This is absolutely insane footage, thank you for sharing! We have just released a Nature & Climate documentary too, keep up the love and fight for nature!! Subscribed!
At school I've been learning about Pippa and go watch the live stream!
Interesting.🥰
They sound like a slow draining sink.
Nice Dinosaurs 🥰
Their beaks seem to be largely ceremonial.
Their call sounds like an Euler disc.
💖🌞🍀
Where’s the social distancing guys? Set an example for the baby bird. :)
Baby shower!!! 🥰🍬🎉
What is that thing with the beaks touching each other and making those sounds dont know much about these species of birds maybe some one that knows about them can comment thanks
Beautiful, a feast for the eyes of God.
The little chick must have have wondered what those adults were doing.
How can we help the albatross chicks on Marion Island that are being scalped by feral mice?
The original surrealists.
What was that all about?
In a few years our girl will be the one harassing some poor little chick 😣
when does she/him/it get fed??? we have been watching for a week on and off and have not seem it get fed..Now my wife is worried and wants to fly down there and feed it. Please respond asap. thanks bob
I was worried about that, too but this page explains a lot about it. It says the chick can go several days without being fed now. www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/birds/birds-a-z/albatrosses/royal-albatross-toroa/royal-cam/what-to-expect/
Where is Atawahi..live cam not found.
Will the rangers still be weighing the chick on Tuesdays between 9:30 and 11 am during this COVID lockdown?
Does anyone know if the mother or father were among the group?
Hi, Betsy Marie! No, those were youngish albatrosses, with just one coloured band. Mum has yellow, red and black bands (so she is known as YRK); dad has Orange, Green and Black bands (OGK). They use the letter k for black as B is for blue :)
3:03 i thought this was a peacock
WHY are the bigger birds pulling the baby's feathers? 💔
What’s this get together all about
Why am I seeing this? 🤔
This is funny.
Where are their babies.
Amazing how social they are... if i watch pippas reactions... i don't think pippas parent's are among the adults here... she would have reacted in a excited manner if one or both parents were close... 🤗😁
She tried to get away by becoming as small as possible!
The mother seems to be saying who's catching dinner? or you can't dance for chickling today
Is pippa okay?
She might have felt a little nervous as she has had rough treatment before. I have noticed that when she does not feel relaxed she moves her head slowly from side to side.
@@blodynbach thank you!
So five albatrosses walk into a bar....
I wonder if they're learning about social distancing????
Hi miss clidzail
Chick is thinking: where are bald eagles when you need them?
I was worried about the little one… hopefully nothing happened. ??

Pippa demonstrated how we feel when we're around people who don't wear masks and don't socially distance in public.
PIPPA was ok this time our smart brave girl❤️❤️❤️

she is beautiful so she has many gentleman-callers already :-)
to byli asi nějací puberťáci??? bála jsem se o Pippu
No need to talk, their body language speaks by itself. We spot Albatross in Uruguay, but they seldom land or nest here
