Thanks for sharing this. Showing all the steps to make this shield. Your a good teacher.
Thank you Danny. I've been on a lot of job sites and haven't ever seen this before. I like this. You're a good teacher.
nice tempo Danny. Appreciate that you show and instruct on all the important steps from start to finish.
Good tip about cutting without snipping to the end of your shears, thanks! I always learn so much from you Danny, even if I never do that sort of job, it's still knowledge gained. Looks real good!
Excellent! I love someone that does things right!
What a good teacher you are!
thank you for the demo and explanation of steps you take as you build things. i hope to be setting up a cabin this summer, and without the benefit of my father or husband to show me how to do things, i find your videos very valuable. God bless you as you progress through this project.
Great video, loved that tip about using a roof shingle
This is soo interesting.I now know how to make and put on termite shields. You explain the process so it's easy to understand.Thanks.Good job there Danny.Watching you all the way.Have a good day you rwo.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡...
Coming right along! Good looking work Danny, easy to tell you've done that a few hundreds of times. Thanks for the upload.
I needed to know how to do this, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Love watching you guys work on the cabin, Boy brings me back to shop class in school!
I didn't know there was anything known as a termite shield. Grew up in the East coast so we didn't have many termites like the South does. Thank you Danny for this lesson and education.
I love to watch you both and learn😊💚☘️
Really great video, you’re a great teacher, thank you!
Nice thanks for sharing
simple and accurate, really looks like a set of piers that will last.
another amazing job on Building and Installing Termite Shields to your foundations !! the shingle is like a damp proof course as well
Looks good!
Thank you Danny!
Great info! I had no idea! Your buildings will last for centuries!
Ant caps are used as a visual inspection tool so you can see them going around the ant cap they dont deter termites, if the ant cap wasn't there they can go through the pier and into the structure with out anyone knowing until its too late.
50% savings! Very nicely done :)
Excellent...
Looking good
Thank you. A great explanation of how to do this project. Wish I could absorb your knowledge somehow!
Fixing to build my cabin. Thanks
Great info...thanks!
So where are the videos for the rest of the cabin?
I cant thank you enough for explaining all of this. I'm planning on doing something similar soon and planning the foundation has been frustrating me. If I was going to go 32×32 I would assume I would leave one side as the middle and just extend the ends and one outer wall. That would allow me to have a girder down the center to hang the joists. Question if I was building a cabin with say a large loft would you change layout so that you have an 8ft span instead of 16 supported by more footers and blocks
thanks for sharing
Excellant video
Thanks for the info. God bless!
More good info.
This is such a great video thank u! My biggest issue is that if the foundation is continued and you have metals over others... what sealant shall we use? Shouldnt we use a special silicon? PU sealant? Epoxy sealant? Thank you in advance!
Good job Danny, is it a good idea to use those wherever you live?
Thanks for showing/explaining the whole procedure of making “termite shields”. Just one question: in your moist/humid climate, can moss grow on your shields? I guess two questions: and if so, how do you prevent that from happening because then our “great” friend, the termite, has footing to travel around the shield? Thanks for your time and I’m the guy that has questions when I see something new; only way to learn in my world.
Dudley Hamilton No moss does not grow on metal here in this climate. Its ok to ask Thanks
Hi, I didn’t see how you managed to do the corners?
I want to know how you laid those blocks.
Thank you Danny. Guess what Paul's doing this weekend?
Brenda Duncan Bending termite shields?
He sure is, Thank you. :)
use the shingle as a template to mark your termite shield.
I see this is the last video of the cabin build except for a Private video.
Are the rest of the videos a subscription of buy the videos?
Thanks :)
We are going to start the cabin this fall. We are saving money to totally black it in. Thanks
Its a mouse shield too.
and scorpion shield
Ok how do we bend the ends? This is wonderful timing I'm using that same tin to fix a door the dog made a hole in. Thank you cuz bending it will allow water protection on edges and bottom of door. But i do need to learn how to bend the ends to go around the edges of the door. I'm guessing the corners i can cut a slit and rap it under the bottom of door. Its got space under neath cuz its not a house door its an outside door to keep dog in yard while I'm at work. Lol yes the dog has another plan and trying to get the door out of his way and its working quiet well. Lol k thanx cuz i was just going to put a flat piece on each side and i would have had fish hooks now i won't plus bending fixes the water splashing up from the ground. Hear in Oregon we have big strong rain 9 months of the year. Thank you
Dazie Bennett I use duck bill pliers to bend metal. Thanks
What is the cabin status? This was the last video that can be seen in your playlist for the cabin.
Cliffside Acres The cabin was put on hold youtube demonotized us so much that we lost so much money after we started we are now playing catch up on other projects that should have been done last year. Thanks
what happened to the cabin build?
What do you do to treat your home to prevent termites ?
Cody Holifield We dont termites cant live where there is no moisture. Where we have moisture we plant yarrow to deter them. Thanks
@@DeepSouthHomestead any type of leak can attract termites, air condition over flow, hot water over flow, leaky taps, leaky gutters or down pipes, leaky shower any gardens up against the house can create moisture, they can also dig deeper to get moisture, also termites can still go around ant caps they are there as a visual inspection tool so you can see them going around the ant cap , if the ant cap wasn't there they can go through the pier and into the structure with out anyone knowing until its too late.
@@jasonlazyboy This is true but everything under anything I build is all treated the sills, floor joist and any other exposed wood under a building.
🌺
Breaking those over would sure go faster if one had access to a metal brake.. lol
Thank you for this video, I have just made similar shields for my new construction on concrete piers.
However, I don't know if I agree with your need to protect the galvanized steel from contacting concrete...
it will corrode aluminum flashing, but not steel AFAIK
I followed up on this with the American Galvanizers Association (www.galvanizeit.org) and received the following:
"There is typically not a problem with galvanized surfaces in contact with concrete for many decades. There may be some reactions between the galvanized steel and the concrete during the curing stages if there is an absence of chromate either in the concrete itself or on the galvanized steel. Galvanized steel is used sometimes as reinforcement bar for concrete. The only special requirement that the ASTM specification regarding galvanized rebar is that either the concrete contain a small amount of chromate (~ 100 ppm) and/or the rebar actually be post-treated after galvanizing with a chromate passivation. The presence of chromate eliminates reactions during the curing stages. After the curing stages there are no detrimental reactions that proceed between the galvanized coating and the concrete. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Sorry for the delay in reply."
So I am probably going to leave out the shingles...
why dont people use a smooth piece of pvc pipe cover overthe bolt to potect the threads just a idea from a womans view
patricia haddix you want the hole to be as small and tight as possible so it can be sealed back easily. PVC would leave to big a hole. Good thought Thanks
Thank you Danny!
