I remember the old Kemah Draw Bridge. Traffic shut down when bridge was up for sail boats to go out to bay
And the swivel bridge for the trains
geez how long ago was that? I've been in the area since '99 and occasionally before then and don't remember a draw bridge there.
@@kozmokohler 1960’s before NASA.
@@brentcollins9727 I forgot about that!
Draw bridge was still there until the 80s. The swivel bridge had been decommissioned previously but it was still there. My grandfather had a Morgan sailboat at Watergate and when we went to the bay we had to get the bridge raised.
I can't wait! I use this route every day for my commute. Been a long process to get here!
I can’t say enough about how I enjoy your drone photography. This video is exceptionally well done. Thanks for sharing with us.
This is the route that I had taken on the morning that the Battleship Texas was towed from her former berth at San Jacinto State Historical Site to Gulf Copper Dry Dock and Rig Repair in Galveston, Texas. In spite of all of the construction that was taking place, I managed to get to the Texas City Dike at a reasonable time in order to get a very good spot. In the end, I had front row seats, and I took some spectacular photographs of this historical event.
I'm watching the history of BB 35 Texas on a RUclips channel dedicated for quite some time to the battleship and it's current dry dick restoration. I am so happy about the care the greatest warship of all is now getting at 104 years old and named after my great state of Texas. I can't wait to see her leave dry dock, though don't like them not straightening and fixing her rudder, making her steerable under her own power.
I don't even know if her engines are functional. But I do hope that keep her out of the mud and in better shape from here on out.😊
You cover everything from bridges to battleships! :)
I remember the old draw bridge days waiting in a mile long line of stopped traffic so three guys could put put through the channel in their sailboats at 3 mph. I still remember the tops of their masts cutting through the roadway at the crest of the span. The "new" bridge was opened around '84. No clue how this newest concrete stilt monster will change the makeup of Kemah and Seabrook but elevated Texas 225 cutting through downtown Pasadena has an eerie similarity. (Nice shot of Galveston skyline at 3:40.)
Where is the elevated part of 225 you are speaking of? The only thing I can think of that is elevated are the overpasses?
I believe there used to be a rail line where portions of the new lanes of 146 stands. It seems like it had already been abandoned but was completely written off when Ike came in 2008. They probably used some of the foundation and rocks for the piers/columns. Although I'm not quite sure. 2:25 theres a yellow sign in the water on the left. Piece of land on the right of that sign is where I believe the northern portion of the rail bridge was. Further south you can still see rails peaking out of the bushes and trees or short bridges crossing drainage canals. Line becomes active at Texas City.
Great video. A very good video.
Hallelujah….While don't use this route on a daily basis (2-3 times a month), indeed, Feb 1 can not come soon enough….👍🥳
Interesting, good to know.🤔
Well done. Can't open soon enough. I can start going to Tookies again. Kind of surprised that there is no signage marking the exits. I presume there will be some when it opens.
Sike you thought they'd open it yet 😭
Maybe March
You’re not wrong
Since it is finally open on both lanes now
Nice video! Just an idea, flying the local Bay Area waterways with the current low water levels might get a lot of Sportmans views. I’ve see your SLP videos before.
It needs to be extended from Texas City to I-10
Just watch out for the drunks coming out of Kemah on the weekends. There's going to be tire marks all over those sidewalls in a month, just like the one lane going through Seabrook. 🤣
I went to this 146 highway and you said it would be grand opening on Feb 1st guess IT WASN'T READY YOU LIED PLEASE TELL ME THE DATA THAT WILL OPEN
Got delayed because of the rain
Oh sorry😥
