I use this thing all the time. I often use it to emulate more expensive pedals like Chase Bliss Spectre, for example, and certain artists‘ sounds. The distortions and amp models are fine but its the modulation and time based effects where it really shines, to me. I‘ve had mine since they first hit the stores and never had a problem. Fantastic product and price.
Just got this great effect. Current firmware 2 upgrade (pre installed on newer units, or to upgrade yourself in case you have firmware ver 1) enables 6 effects at the same time.
I have had the Zoom G3 for about a year. I am a gigging musician with a pro rig. I use the G3 for practice with headphones when needing to learn a new song / solo. It is built like a tank, unbelievable easy to use (I would like to thank whoever designed the user interface...simple brilliance), and sounds way better than it should at the price. It also integrates really well with a laptop for backing tracks, and recording. The effects are beyond acceptable and in particular the Fender Deluxe and Marshall 1959 amp sims are surprising. Just make sure to use your guitar volume and tone controls! The acoustic sim is amazingly good as well. This demo says you can have 2 effects and an amp sim. Not correct. You can have 5 effects and 1 amp sim simultaneously. Add the (basic) drum machine and looper and you have a RIDICULOUSLY / INSANELY good practice solution for $150 (used probably $110). In sum, the Zoom G3 is the best $150 I have spent in at least 2 decades. Yes, don't freakin' use it for live gigging, but WOW for a portable practice solution that I can take with me when I travel. I don''t know how they did it for the price. Highly recommended.
I have tried it in full band practice and it would be very serviceable live, but using only the post distortion effects. IMHO, the the amp sims, distortions, and overdrives don't cut through well enough in a full band mix, especially with another guitar player. Just not dynamic enough. Compressors are not as transparent as my Monty Allums modded Boss CS-3. Noise gates are decent. The exception is the acoustic simulator which works surprisingly well with my Strat using the middle pickup. If you are playing solo with say a backing track in a small venue, it would work really well! Again, ridiculously good value. I love this thing!
I play this sucker through a Blackstar Ht20 tube amp and it sounds phenomenal (with a bit of tweakage of course). Also, the Phaser is not as bad as everyone says, and the interface is incredibly simple for so many features. For 200$ with a looper/drum machine included...this thing is awesome
Over the past week I took all my name brand pedals & tweaked them to my liking. Reverb, delay, OD, compressor tuner, fuzz, everything. I then used the Zoom & tried to dial in the exact sound. I was very successful )flat out nailed it) with my OD, reverb & delay. Not quite as successful with the compressor & boost but not bad either. Of course a tuner is a tuner more or less. This next week I'm going to try to dial in my Empress Multi drive & have the Zoom match. While I love the Zoom I think this is a bit of a challenge for it. We'll see. If I am able to nail it, well (ouch,) it will be almost $700 worth of pedals vs. the Zoom at 199 for the Gx3.
& then the right side screen went dead. Apparently a more common problem than you might think. A few months old with light use. Can I find the receipt???? Nope.
It's actually a veeeery good unit. Just a bad review. Not Paul's greatest work definitely. Unlike many haters i actually like the first sound (auto wah & distortion), very interesting. Don't know how to use that in real life situation tho.
True. From what paul is playing, it's not made for playing the same single note over and over (the low bass note his playing over n over sounds awful). Once he played other notes it sounds ok.
Here is the thing. I don't need like a billion presets and all kinds of bells and whistles. I am a basic Blues /Classic Rock/Country player. I don't need it all, but the few effects I do need, they need to sound good.. This sounds o.k., it does, but give me some meat and potatoes, a good overdrive/boost, a nice analog chorus sound, and a great and versatile delay.
How rude are some of these comments?? remind me never to do a demo it leaves you open for inconsiderate people......Nice guy..good player and ofcourse he has got to show sounds that you wouldn't normally get on your amp or you wouldn't buy the pedal....I have the G5n a great pedalxx
Hi, I just bought this multieffects, that effect is called "Step Filter", this baby has 4 different versions of it, very nice effect and you can set and adjust it as you want... I´m very happy with this multieffects, I had never bought a Zoom product, this is my first, I was a Boss user, but you bet i'll switch to Zoom from now on. Greetings
COMPARING IT TO THE ZOOM MS-100 BT I have the Zoom BT100. It has an excellent sound, but, even though it's configured as stomp box, there's not a real practical way to use it as such unless you're just using it pre-configured with some "emergency" settings - the foot switch serves as a toggle between 2 (or 3? Can't remember) setting configurations of your choice. Also what's nice about the BT100 is the ability to download additional patches (effects, amps, whatever), load them into the box via Bluetooth, try them out instantly for about 15 minutes, and pay for them if you like them. Unfortunately this is iPhone/iPad only. Also on the downside, I expected there to be a lot more variety and more frequent updates than was maintained on the site, so really the only other benefit about it having Bluetooth is backing up your settings. So I just bought one of these things about 30 minutes ago. I'm assuming the patches are pretty much going to be the same as the BT100, which means they range from mind-blowingly awesome to "I don't know how the hell you would ever use that" - it's a big world out there, so every pedal this versatile is going to have some shit that you don't want or care about. Same price as the BT100, but it looks like it will be way more easier to work with. By throwing away the attempt to look like a small stomp box, the G3 gives you three displays and pedals instead of one. Other perks of the G3 over the BT100: a drum machine, a more versatile looper; USB audio; USB Power; an XLR input jack; and included software. The Sweetwater website states, in addition to over 100 built-in DSP effects, that the G3 has the ability to "create and store up to 100 original tones" - I'm not sure what this means (anyone?). Can't wait to find out!
HOPE TO SEE THE G3X SOON AND USE THE WAH OR THE G5N, THESE HAVE REALLY SURPRISED ME ESPECIALLY THE G5N CAUSE IT SOUNDED ALMOST AS GOOD AS A KEMPER BUT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE, AND APPARENTLY OR SO 1 DEMO SAID THE G3X CAN HAVE UP TO 6 EFFECTS AT ONCE
this demo didn't do the pedal a whole lot of justice. i tried it once in a shop and i think it sounded great, it sounds more analog and pure than you'd think imo
***** I could not agree more man, it's like they just plugged it in and tweaked randomly without trying to get the best out of it. Try it out! It's really an amazing multi-fx even by stompbox standards
Well you can't blame Paul really. The presets I find really bad on the G3 and the effects sound very gimmicky. That being said it's one of my favorite MFX's . I LOVE it. You can get some mind blowing tones out of it. I feed it to a Atomic Reactor 18 watt Cab and it's just unreal. Search 4 AshBash on youtube. He has a website were you can download effectuator 2000 which allows you to make changes in a MUCH more effective way. That and upgrade the firmware to 2.0....stunning!
I'm going to give him failing grade. How does one use this live? How do you switch back and forth between presets? I hope you have more than three choices from the switches?
Alan Sturgess, I tend to agree with you! Hardly ever do you hear clean sounds with a bit of delay! He loves overdrive, now he thinks everybody loves it!
What a weird demo. I have this thing and use it all the time. (for NORMAL guitar sounds) It's a great, cheap way to get some classic Vox, Marshall, Fender, Mesa, Hiwatt etc. sounds at any volume. I highly recommend it.
These are good units BUT the video plays all the patches most guitar players would want to delete. Did yourself a favor if you buy one there (and it's a good for the price unit) - take USB cable and download the Zoom Edit software, find other users that know how to program a patch - transfer to unit and have fun. Guitar players usually want realistic patches which sadly most budget units as default don't have loaded. Tweak away ...
That thing sounds like someone is running a chainsaw into a blown out microphone, through a dimed DOD Grunge pedal, and out a shredded 8" speaker, underwater. This review is nightmare fuel.
Please solve my problem it's homming when I started on playing rhythm mode. And on treble mode homming goes off. Please tell how to stop homming on rhythm mode
Hey Paul, why can't you stick with one guitar for consistency and please describe the signal flow please before rushing forward into your juvenile thrash/wall of rapidfire noise routine? Now I'll just have to find another more thoughtful review. Any job worth doing is worth doing right. Please try to improve. I am a fan, so please don't be too offended. I'm not hating on ya bro.
Is it possible to use G3 as an external audio card and pair it with Guitar Rig or similar software on my PC through USB for practice? Or it's only recording available through USB and it's guitar amp is needed for practice?
just 6 months of using just few hours for practice inside my room room the middle screen display wont show up anymore.. im very disappointed im gonna return it hopefully its still covered with zoom warranty.
Hi, in the G3... Can you set up an overdrive+reverb in a single bank? I mean, by just pressing a switch you got overdrive+delay ? I'll reaaaally aprpeciatte your answer. Thanks!
Hey, great. Please, help me. Are there some control pedal to use it with the Zoom G3? I think that one control pedal help us to change the TYPE on Zoom G3.
Thanks dude... I wanna buy this pedal... but I am confused against Zoom G2.1Nu... which one would you suggest? I play lots of metal and I want to record stuff as well as use it for live.. thanks :D
I own a G3 and must say the demo was HORRIBLE. The G3 can create some amazing distortion tones provided you know how to tweak the settings to achieve it. The Demo at 4:15 was quite misleading. G3 shines when it comes to distortion and blows the competition away when it comes to the drive sounds. The number of different effects it has is insane plus its EXTREMELY easy to use. I can create, tweak, rename and store a patch in a matter of minutes whereas its a pain in the ass to do it on my ME25! :(
how about how to set up your effects next to each others so you can switch between em while playing at least ? how about say something we don't know about ? anyone uses effect knows what you just said , just by messing around with the effect ...
Can all 3 'boxes' be used for fx only? For example, a chorus in 3, a tremolo in 2 and a delay in 1? I'm thinking of picking this up but I won't be using it for the dirt box models or amp sims. FX only.
Of course. It's set to choose effects as they were real pedals. Amp simulation is one of them. You can choose from 1 to 6 pedals functioning at the same time. Amp simulation is best for direct live settings, or recording. If you have your amp and you like it, just don't activate any simulation.
Strange.. my G3 doesn't sound like that :p .. I think you should have used the built in cabinets instead of using a real cab (if you're going to use the amp simulation that is)
im about to buy one of this, but i have a question, is true that the noise level is high without noise gate or znr when you use a lot of distortion?, im worried about always have to use noise gate + only 2 fx (excuse my bad english)
Guitar World Hi there i just wanted to know if i could reset all my guitar patches on G3x? I read it on zoom site they said you can reset and edit via software ie;- Edit and share. I tried that also but no help! Do you have any idea?
hey there! i have some questions to ask, can you help me? 1 - is it a good choice to use on an acoustic guitar? i need a reverb, tuner, EQ, delay and a Noise Reducer. 2 - my acoustic has a active pickup, i have to configurate anything bcuz of that? 3 - what i have to config to use in line without an amp? Thank you so much from brazil!
1. It is, there are all the effects you just mentioned. 2. There is an switch at the back of the processor (passive/active). 3. There is a section, called "GLOBAL" menu, where you can choose different parameter values for output: DIRECT, COMBO FRONT, STACK FRONT, COMBO POWER AMP, STACK POWER AMP.
Yes, I use it for that reason already. The part that isn't so impressive about it are the amp simulators and distortions, which are not really necessary for acoustic. The looper and built-in drum machine also leave quite a bit to be desired. I use a different loop pedal along with it. The delays, reverb and modulations are good.
+Kristaps Vītols-Vītoliņš I agree. I have never used it for electric guitar into an amp. I run mine straight into a mixer with my acoustic. I have done a lot of research on the thing and found out that it is supposed to work really good in the effects loop of an amp. When I play electric I have a full-blown pedal board that I use.
How it works in live situations? For Ex. I want to use the 3 switches to have an effect combination en each one, like overdrive and delay in switch 1, flanger and reverb in switch 2, and overdrive with reverb in switch 3...In live situation y want to go easily to one of three combinations...Can I do this? that´s the part that no one explain....or with my poor english, I don´t understand, sorry, ha....Thanks
If You push and hold for a sec the switches you go to 3 different menu: the first (from the left) is dedicated to the patch shift. In this menu the other two switches ( the middle one and the right one) are used to go to the next and previous patch... so if you have 3 different parts in a song (and at home you have prepared the sound of each one off course), you can use this menu to quickly change your patch.
"Hey, check out this amazing Zoom FX Pedal"
WEW WEH WEW WUH WEW WEW WEEEEW
Thank you for this good laugh!!
Hahahahaha well done I was thinking the same thing hahah
I love that delay
Mega lol

CHECK OUT THIS GUYS CHANNEL -> CHOPTONESOFFICIAL - HE MAKES RECORDING PATCHES AND THEY SOUND ALMOST AS GOOD AS THE KEMPERS AND AXFX

First patch demonstrated was an abomination.
call an exorcist.. he was possesed
Lol ikr
+wikichris I have no word to add to your comment. It's awful
wikichris sounds like real shit!
I agree
Still using this in 2023 they are built to last.
It's actually a veeeery good unit. Just a bad review. Not Paul's greatest work definitely. Unlike many haters i actually like the first sound (auto wah & distortion), very interesting. Don't know how to use that in real life situation tho.

God - I'm sick of demos which mostly feature thrash, bash and shred. Only at the end does Paul move away from distorted dung.
Hi, I just bought this multieffects, that effect is called "Step Filter", this baby has 4 different versions of it, very nice effect and you can set and adjust it as you want... great features, cleans sound great.
Distortion sounds pretty digital though.
Interesting imagination. Far away from the standart reviews and great playing thanks!
Generally what i've noticed is that zoom effects processors are great with cleans, but not so much under distortion...
"Hey it's Paul..." Oh no not again...
Keith Pai hahaha xD
5 years and not a better product out in this prince range
Just seen one for $50. I'm not a guitar player looking to run some synth through it

lol almost every guitar processor lets you to "create and store up to 100 original tones"
it`s just how they call User presets
@8bigtubes Yes, you can use the G3 for effects only and not include and amp simulation.

Yeah man... like the distortion models it has on there are literally the best I've heard by multi-effects standards.
***** I could not agree more man, it's like they just plugged it in and tweaked randomly without trying to get the best out of it. Try it out! It's really an amazing multi-fx even by stompbox standards
Check out Zoom's website, there's a video of the Band Filter who use this pedal, show them in a live setting and it sounds pretty good.
I don't know if it sounds great but the device is beautiful
Well you can't blame Paul really. The presets I find really bad on the G3 and the effects sound very gimmicky. That being said it's one of my favorite MFX's . I LOVE it. Hardly ever do you hear clean sounds with a bit of delay!
He loves overdrive, now he thinks everybody loves it!
FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND YOU CAN ALSO USE THIS AS A RECORDING INTERFACE
Is the pedal that big or is he just petite?
Actually you can use up to 6 effects or amp simulations. Not 3, as Paul said.
It is an amazing unit, you can easly get Megadeth's tone with some work.
What a weird demo. I have this thing and use it all the time. (for NORMAL guitar sounds) It's a great, cheap way to get some classic Vox, Marshall, Fender, Mesa, Hiwatt etc. sounds at any volume. I highly recommend it.
@TheOrrFrank That's the Step effect, with a phase shifter maybe.
lol at the effect in the first demo ...
bleh bleh bleh bleeeeeeeh blehhhhhhh blehhhhh bleeeeeeh
XD
What kind of amp are you running, because that tone is awesome!!!
These are good units BUT the video plays all the patches most guitar players would want to delete. Guitar players usually want realistic patches which sadly most budget units as default don't have loaded. Tweak away ...
I think it sounded fine
5:26 sounds good though!
I was reading Zoom's manual for this device which says you can have six effects on at a time. I guess Paul didn't do his homework.
I love that guitar.
hi Paul, did you have your hands on Nux MFX-10? how do you like that? or did you make any review on that? thanks
ANY CHANCE WE SEE A REVIEW/DEMO OF THE NEWER G3N? FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD SO FAR THEY ARE AMAZING
That thing sounds like someone is running a chainsaw into a blown out microphone, through a dimed DOD Grunge pedal, and out a shredded 8" speaker, underwater. This review is nightmare fuel.
nice review! what is the guitar you playing? Can I use this to provide some shuffle rhytem to play over? thanks
@Slashhat7 Wrong! Its the new 15w TOasTer from LG! Their first head!
Boss me-70 is awesome
Goes with me everywhere
I started cracking up! when he paused in his metal riff xD lmfao!!! I was like ohh :O lol love this guy
Sounds and tones fantastic. Can you use The Shadows settings and is there a link where you can input the settings?
Please solve my problem it's homming when I started on playing rhythm mode. And on treble mode homming goes off. Please tell how to stop homming on rhythm mode
Hey, I have one with the free downloadable upgrades. I simulates an ENGL Invader and Marshall Plexi. THE BEST, period.
does this contain the sick goose effect?
So...this one has better quality sounds than the RP355?
can i only use 3 pedals in one preset? i thought up to six? if not, does a noise gate count as one pedal? thanks
Is it meant to be run through an amp or just a speaker
Nice guitar!
I love your guitar!!!!! g3 is cool too...
I'm not hating on ya bro.
will it work for voice?
excuse me mr paul, what was your effects on the last piece you played??
4:15 WDF was that? hahahaha...
He'd been playing solos on riffs
In the manual it says, you can use 6 effects simultaneously. Paul said 3..??
You can use 6. You can only see/control three at a time. Using the scroll key, you can use up to 6.
What is the first effect please ? Sound awesome
sounds like auto wah / talk box to me
Does the signal chain starts from Left to Right? or it can be set to start from right to left just like in a traditional pedalboard?
+Tom Jeffrey Macalisang You can set it to go either way.
I like the talkbox emulator!
What is this guitar? It looks amazing!
G & L ASAT
Clayton Atkins 0.0 I want one
it matters how you have your settings
Hi, in the G3... Can you set up an overdrive+reverb in a single bank? I mean, by just pressing a switch you got overdrive+delay ?
I'll reaaaally aprpeciatte your answer. Thanks!
Hey, great. Please, help me. Are there some control pedal to use it with the Zoom G3? I think that one control pedal help us to change the TYPE on Zoom G3.
@SnowAngelSilver no i am talking about @4:15
Whats the configuration on the first song Paul played????? Pls help me!!!
can you combine 2effects on 1pedal? like a phaser and tremolo on 1 stomp?
The first useful tone is at 4:38. Geez.
+CoffeeDrinker71 only*
+Reinier van zwieten Good point!
What guitar is that ?!?
what guitar is he using?
Does it have harmonized pitch shifter like G2 ?
Hi can you advise me on which are the best perimeter settings for The Shadows instrumentals and amp. Choice? Thankyou
Thanks dude...
I wanna buy this pedal... but I am confused against Zoom G2.1Nu... which one would you suggest? I play lots of metal and I want to record stuff as well as use it for live..
thanks :D
works great
I own a G3 and must say the demo was HORRIBLE. The G3 can create some amazing distortion tones provided you know how to tweak the settings to achieve it. The Demo at 4:15 was quite misleading. great scott!!!
how about how to set up your effects next to each others so you can switch between em while playing at least ?
how about say something we don't know about ? anyone uses effect knows what you just said , just by messing around with the effect ...
Can all 3 'boxes' be used for fx only? For example, a chorus in 3, a tremolo in 2 and a delay in 1?
I'm thinking of picking this up but I won't be using it for the dirt box models or amp sims.
FX only.
You play good but you love these digital, modern effects.
Hi please send settings for any Shadows or Hank Marvin sounds with the echo delay reverb on. Thankyou
Howbcanni turn of the delay in the patch named MS Echo efetc?
do you know the first effect he played ? can you list all the effects on this video if you know them ?
I think its quite good, I make my own sounds not the sounds being demoed.
how did you edit the fifth effect that you check?...it's great so electronic!
is possible to turn off amp simulations and use only pedals (delay,chorus,flanger...) with my amp sound? thx ;)
INSERT MULTI EFFECTS THAT I OWN HERE FTW!
Guitar World Hi there i just wanted to know if i could reset all my guitar patches on G3x?
I read it on zoom site they said you can reset and edit via software ie;- Edit and share. I tried that also but no help! Do you have any idea?
read the manual. .
Is there an effect on the zoom g3 that will sound like a classical guitar?(somewhat as a nylon string simulator)
@hnsst His playing, or the tone?
hey there! i have some questions to ask, can you help me?
Paul Jarman Well i had some issues when trying to find some good tones with an amp, but the thing is somewhat usable.
