In all honesty, I never understood the weeknd nor his type of genere of music because the most common song that I heard/listened to by him was “The Hills” but even then I didn’t listen to him frequently or could even comprehend why he has such a massive following. Last year around this sort of time, I was struggling with severe depression and anxiety and the only outlet or thing that I was using to get out of my mind and escape my problems was listening to xxxtentacion’s old depressing music on his soundcloud before he started blowing up last year. A while ago I stumbled across an interview that xxxtentacion had and he was explaining about the two dominant artists that saved his life because of some personal problems that he went through and the two artists that he stated were Kurt Cobain and The Weeknd. But he also stated that it wasn’t the current Weeknd that saved him, you’d have to go to his old music who made the mixtapes before remastering the songs and then making them into the Trilogy album because what he the lyrics “contradictive” and “numbing” because the words didn’t have to speak to you... It was the energy behind the words because it spoke to your soul and that’s what x’s music did for me and so I took a stab and wanted to find out whether The Weeknd’s music would do the same if not more... All I can say is thank you Abel and I’m glad that I found these mixtapes.
