  • Last day for Moose & Coffee in 2022. It's amazing how much fun each of you add to this. The experience is for all of us to enjoy together.
    2022 was a challenging rut to observe, explore and film...and then some. But it was also amazing. Libby and I are growing as film makers, we still have so much to learn as video artists but our passion, excitement and determination keeps us humbled and patient. For me personally it's been so inspiring to watch Libby explore her style in video production and I'm darn proud of her work.
    Come along with us today as we recap the 11 weeks of 2022 for you. The whole gang is in this one. I'll say it now. There is still much more to share about the 2022 rut and we will have fun together in coming weeks and months. But for today, settle in and enjoy as we close out the year with some moments that we cherish. And Grumpy will be with us as we reflect on a moose dynasty and begin to experience a new one. Think of it as an acknowledgement of the lives of some fascinating and determined animals.
    Thank you to each and every one of you for a great year of “moosin” fun. We appreciate you, your comments, questions, and continued support as we head into our 8th consecutive moose rut in 2023.
    Thanks for watching our channel, we are the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.) It is our passion to document wildlife of any kind, but moose are definitely at the top. In New Hampshire we spend a lot of our spring/summer hours in kayaks photographing loons and moose in the waters of New Hampshire. And hike many miles in Alaska seeking all manner of wildlife in the fall.

      He was a very special bull for sure. His loss hit us like a truck. But we hope to see little Grumpy's running around the valley soon. Happy New Year to you! And thank you for being here and your kind words.

    Hello Mooseman, it's me again with my questions about moose behavior lol. In Quebec, we do observe small grouping from august, particularly from mid-august, most of the time in well organized moose population, we see 1 or 2 yearling, 1 young adult and a prime bull. It seems to be pretty the same with your videos. Thank you alot for the amazing vids as usual. :)

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  Год назад +1

      Always good to hear from you, Pierbuck. Thank you so much for your comments and observations. Yes, the bulls especially buddy up in small groups before the rut kicks into gear. Once they shed the velvet, it's as if the gloves are literally off, the testosterone floods their systems, and it's all about the girls then. It's an amazing process to observe and document. And, I might add, it's the younger bulls who lack manners and are generally brought down a peg or two as things start up.

    • @Damano1000
      @Damano1000 Год назад +1

      @@MooseManNaturePhotos I agree 100% with what you're seeing. We've studied moose pit for 7 years me and my friend and we've observe that as well on our side. We've formulated an hypothesis that maybe those grouping of bulls may have a link with their hierarchy for the upcoming rut season. It's like if they're together and they're starting to prepare something, it's very special.

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  Год назад +1

      @@Damano1000 You're so right, it is special. And after the velvet is shed it's amazing to watch the older bulls allow the youngsters to spar with them. They mentor the young ones. Pretty cool stuff!

    How many bulls have you named, or recognized from year to year? What is the annual turnover rate?

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  Год назад +1

      We see a decline in the number of bulls but as a rule there are usually 5 dominant bulls in the 8 miles of valleys we frequent. They don't live there year round, coming from many miles away for the rut so it changes. We've named 20 bulls easily. Others came named already by local moose lovers in the areas. We keep a booklet of them and have recognized a dozen or more repeatedly. 22 we have known for 6 years in a row. Grumpy 5, Left Hook 4, Swagger 4, Boris 3. A host of supporting characters rotate in and out. Great question, thanks for the ask.

    • @Allan79789
      @Allan79789 Год назад +1

      @@MooseManNaturePhotos That's pretty cool. I have White Tailed deer where I live, they don't normally live as long as Moose. I can recognize the larger ones as there antler formations stay relatively the same. The smaller one are hard to recognize as they change so much at the young age.

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  Год назад +1

      @@Allan79789 Indeed the young ones are tougher, they haven't shown us their antler traits yet. (And with moose we also use the bells and ropes as guides, but they change as well.) Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments!
