Hi! Spanish tennis coach here! I've been using some of your footage for video reviews to show to my students and I thought I should drop a few words. First of all, thank you. It's not easy to post your matches online and expose yourself to the criticism of the internet, where nearly everybody is a 5.5 player at the minimum while seating comfortably on their computer chairs. Nobody, not even myself after so many years of coaching, survives the scrutiny of the camera. So yeah, thanks a lot!. But since I am here...
... I thought I could give you some advice. This is all in good spirits, take it or disregard it, but here it is nonetheless. I love how much you're improved since 2017 btw ;)
1. Your backhand volley! We coaches typically have a better forehand volley than a backhand volley. You know why? Because the ball cart is usually on the left ;) You don't have that excuse. Drill it until you get the confidence to bring it to match level. There are tons of exercises (even alone with a rebounder net) to practice in this difficult time.
2. When you play doubles and you trust your partner, you shouldn't be turning around to check what he is doing. It takes away reaction time for what is happening on the other side of the net. Some could argue that looking might give you anticipation for where the ball will land but you can actually tell what kind of shot and where your partner has aimed just by looking at the other team and how they are moving. On minute 04:31 though, you get it right and you nail the point :)
3. Second serves, by default, should exploit the weaker side of your opponent, generally the backhand (and in this match, both your opponents had weaker backhand sides). Regardless of that, you kept serving to their forehands. Whether this was intentional or simply autopilot, it's fair to say that this was suboptimal.
4. When at the net and with the upper hand, move as close as possible to it. It opens up more angles to attack and it's easier to get it over it even if you mishit. If you take a look at several pro players, you will see how they play very close to it (even if that takes a bit of your reaction time).
5. Defensive lobs should (mostly) be played cross court (net is lower, distance is longer). Aggressive lobs should be player over the backhand volley side of your opponent, so even if it falls short he does not have an easy smash on you.
And last, when you play doubles (maybe you do, but it's never shown on the video so this is a bonus :P), when you're serving tell your partner what are going to do. Every single point. Tell him where are you going to serve and what are you going to do next. Maybe you're serving wide on the ad side and want your partner to poach. Or maybe you are going to stay on the back. Or perhaps you are serving T and rushing the net. Always, every point. Make a habit out of it. Not only it build strong communication but it also establishes a plan for the point, something to expect out of it. It keeps you focused every single point and you just follow a plan, which is much better than improvising on site.
I don't want to leave before thanking you again for the effort of editing and uploading, and also congratulate you for your improvement. Hope to see more of you soon!

Great insights!!
You always turn around to see what shot your partners going to hit so you know what to cover
Love the friendly trash talk. If it's all in good fun why not!? Thanks for sharing
You have such a great tennis community there. Thanks for posting as usual. Fun to watch...and listen.
Your doubles is definitely improving. Only thing I would suggest (if I may!) is to stop look at your partner hitting so much when you're at the front. If you concentrate on the net player you can see from his body language if he's going to poach a lot earlier. Only time you should really be looking back is if your partner is retrieving a lob, you want to be able to see if they're going to lob it back (in which case you want to watch out for being smashed at) or if they're going to hit a more aggressive shot.
Your partner does this quite well actually!
@@shimassi9961 great observation I appreciate the feedback!
In my experience, it's pretty helpful to look back at your partner as it allows for better coordination and positioning. Besides, being at the net yourself, you can't do much about the other net guy trying something even if you react a little bit earlier.
That John. I love watching him volley. Great match, fun to watch, thanks for sharing!
The last point was perfection and I would have called it in! Lol!
Andrew caresses the ball , orange shirt is more slap(but he can be effective too). Great play Guys
Just played some doubles today, this was fun to watch! Great playing, Andrew!
10:31 He pinpointed the position of the ball. It may have been easy to see the mark on the court, but I think it's great to pinpoint it precisely because it was fast smashing.
Stop picking on the boomers
look at what a boomer can do 7:45
husseinvideo that heckling and during point dialogue would be frustrating to me
@@richieortiz5 true it doesn't sounds like an official match to me
The racquet throws in this match were epic!! Great doubles wrk by both teams!
Fun game, your opponents had great court position
Nice pic of you four. Good idea.
Great job! That was fun to watch for motivation for my mixed doubles tonight. I bet it felt good beating the temperamental guy in the white shirt. 😉
what are their UTRs?
good match, need to get some dubs action with you guys
Wilson really outdone themselves marketing the Clash line. Seems like everyone has one.
Is that S. Sjogren? Played him in juniors. Didn't realize you are in VA. Mid Atlantic represent!
I've been watching you evolve for a long time now, very impressed at your progression. I know things are mad right now but if you ever plan a trip to London hit me up for a hit! For a match that is!
Where'd you go Racer? I miss your videos!
Crazy to ask, but was this the last time you guys played? I can only imagine the amount of rust you'll need to shake off.
Side note, check us out too! We can kinda keep the ball in play!
You guys were simply far better. What level do the other players play league at if you know? Surprised they made an open event final. Very immobile, good serves and returns, but their hand skills and court positioning leave a lot to improve on. Andrew was right on top of the net the whole match, they seemed to position themselves smack on the service line.
Andrew, my kids say your shirt is black, my wife says its charcoal grey, and I said its dark navy blue. Settle the debate, what color is your shirt?
I'm not great with colors either so I asked the wife... she said "Midnight Blue"
Lol
any modification on your pure drive?
What’s the clay or type of surface called?
Open? Oh open to anyone with a racquet. ....
At 5:45, why did the guy in white shirt get so upset? You guys played very well, but why did your opponents look so old. Different generations.
I know right. Getting upset over a let court is so childish. I hate players like that. They do tend to be older guys that have reactions like that.
@@asantesamuel13 That white shirt guy is so emotional. I hate to play people like that. They're not as good as they think they are, and get easily upset.
I tthought you were a goalkeeper in football
4:06, lol
a little bit more poaching would be better with solid volleys it makes ur team look like orange shirt is doing all the running
White shirt played like st.
Clearly different level opponents
How do you do! I'm a Japanese RUclipsR. Make friends through tennis!

What were they so angry about?
Probably for losing to two guys who play "2 back" when they serve.....
they’re old & don’t move like they used too
Looks like a 4.0 match!
